If the team announces tomorrow that Marty is starting we will see the largest walkup crowd of the season. Though keep in mind our larger crowds usually are helped by opposing fans: Ex: Montreal, Rags, even San Jose had a decent showing.

I am not sure that many Avs fans will be there on a Thursday night, I know they had some bandwagon fans in the NJ/NY area at one point but I don't see more than a smattering of Avs fans in the house.

We will see though.

I highly doubt the idea that we are playing the Cup opponent in 01 will generate more fans for this Thursday tilt against a bad team in the West currently.

There is also no guarantee that Marty is playing. Right now I would say it is 50/50 based on the way Sutter is talking in some of the articles.

College night will add a few thousand.

Not when a rematch of the 2000 final AND having Sean Avery on that same team was one of the three-five worst attended games of the season.

Marty should play, Sutter's just pulling his usual Parcells-Belichick like act of neurotically avoiding giving out anything short of name, rank and serial number ahead of time.

Well it sounded like a sellout and no doubt the best atmosphere of the season but the number really wasn't that far off, about half of the $100 seats were empty and there were scattered empties in the lower corners and three whole rows up in 104.

Still it's about par for the course of what I thought...but someone else was even closer with the number I guess

I've noticed all season as well. This can be attributed to the team itself and just as importantly, ticket deals that allow REAL FANS to attend more games than they normally could. Honestly, beside game 7 in 2003, how many times have we heard Devil players complimenting their fans for their energy or the size of crowds at games? It's happened more than a couple times this year. Last night was a love-fest all around. I stopped taking the train last March but last night I wished I could have taken one home just to enjoy the celebration a little longer.

The last time the Devils visited Colorado the little ******-bag wrote something along the lines of "Denver is a die hard hockey fanbase with constant sellouts who will support the team no matter what, blah blah blah, its absurd that the Devils dont sell out every game."
Fast forward a year later, the Devils attendance is eclipsing the Avalanche. Who the hell do the Colorado Avalanche have to go up against for fans? We have the two largest US fanbases (supposedly) in our backyards, will have a better attendance mark than last season in a year where the US economy is in the ******* and make a ton of money to boot.

They should be lauded for the 12 year sell out streak, but he should know that Denver lost their 1st NHL franchise and attendance was a big part of it.

The Nuggets are averaging better than the Avs and I would imagine the casual fan is spending their money on the NBA instead.

I think a lot of it has to do with people actually recognizing they are going to an "event", which is both a hockey game + a night out on the town. (yes, I know it's Newark and not Manhattan, St. Catherine's street in Montreal, etc.)

Even my 5 and 3 year old daughters ask their mother to get dressed up because I can assume that they can sense that know they are on their way to an "event".

The newness of the building, the many sights and sounds inside, the lit up city streets, the skyline of Newark, the buzz (literally & figuratively) over bar and restaurant options both inside and out, seeing fellow Devil fans on the train, etc. all add to a dynamic you couldn't get at the Meadowlands.

It really is an experience going to Newark when you compare and contrast it to driving to a flat parking lot in shadows of the Manhattan skyline.

NBA and NHL teams belong in city centers or highly developed urban areas. In the NHL, other than Anaheim, Ottawa, Florida & Phoenix and Long Island, every facility is located in a city-like setting.

Now, all we need is a REAL home ice advantage....

The noise was resounding last night, you can tell people were having fun and were happy to be at the game.
If tomorrow and Sunday were night games it would be the same, not sure about 1pm starts and crowd noise, the SJ game was a 3pm start and the atmosphere for that game was awesome too.

Hey everyone, first post here, but I have been coming to the site for a while. I have season tickets in 225.
Last month I was in Colorado for their game against the Blackhawks (I luckily missed the Atlanta game that night), and the arena was literally only half full. I had bought tickets for the upper level for me and my girlfriend, but as soon as we got up there we were asked by ticket agents if we wanted to sit downstairs. We asked what the catch was, but they said there was no catch and all we had to do was trade our tickets. The point is, there were about 5 of these people, each with huge stacks of lower level tickets. We wound up sitting right behind the Raycroft net, only about 6 rows up. Also, a good majority of the fans were Blackhawk fans. In addition, the Avalanche fans had absolutely no chants going that night All I could think about was the article that ripped our attendance and how ironic it was.

Yeah true, you can't really walk from a restaurant to the the Wachovia Center as it would be quite a long walk. But you're already in South Philly and it's restaurant/bar scene is adjacent to their sports complex and your about 5 miles from Center City. I'd take South Philly's bar/restaurant scene over what Secaucus had to offer.

I don't know about Edmonton, but looking at this picture and seeing it's about 3 miles from downtown on a Google map, I really don't get the feeling it has that 'isolated' feel to it that you would get at the Meadowlands. I guess we'd have to ask someone familiar with Edmonton and the Rexall Place.
