TheDowder 02-23-2009, 04:40 PM I know it is kind of early. But, anybody headin' to Philly on March 23? Just snagged 4 tickets off the Flyers ticket exchange. Hope to see lots of Devils fans out there.
Also, if anybody is going, PM me, I plan on getting there early and tailgaiting. It'd be great to get a bunch of Devils fans together to tailgate.

TheDowder 02-23-2009, 04:49 PM HAHA, it's a risk I'm willing to take. I like seeing different arenas, and I have never been to the Wachovia Center.

Wachovia is a beautiful arena. Unlike the fake macho stuff you will see in MSG's upper deck, the Philly crowd is for real. Just be respectful and know that you are going to take alot of **** for no reason. It takes obnoxiousness to a new level.

Absolutely, I do not plan on going in there and being a jerk. I just want to go and have a good time. I can handle the comments they may throw my way. I went to NVMC on Saturday to watch the depressing loss to the Islanders and had a blast. Met some real nice and very knowledgeable Islanders fans. I'm hoping I can do the same in Philly.
Jiri Bicek 02-23-2009, 04:57 PM I always wanted to check it out but I definitely need to go with a group of guys
I'll always remember, as a little kid, getting lost in Philly and my dad stopping for directions while wearing a Giants t-shirt... The guys send us an hour in the opposite direction

Yeah, I'm going with a group of friends. I'm not brave enough to go alone. And sorry, but the directions thing is actually pretty funny. I'm sure it wasn't at the time, but I got a good laugh out of it.
ILikeItVeryMuch 02-23-2009, 04:59 PM My father, god bless the man, he is a diehard Giants fan and would sit up in the nosebleeds at the old Vet for Giants/Eagles games with his work buddies.
The stories that he has could fill a novel.

Watching games with Islanders fans are like watching a game with your brother in law, dont expect the same in Philly. Sure there are tons of nice people in every fan base, but that group has earned its reputation quite well.
Devils/Rangers at MSG is a picnic compared to some of the stuff I have seen there.

Oh no, I think it's hilarious too.. He actually went back to the gas station on the way back but they must have ended their shift
TheDowder 02-23-2009, 05:04 PM I have been a Devils fan my whole life. So, believe me, I know how bad Flyers fans can be. I'll just be sure not to wear my white Parise jersey, since nacho cheese tends to stain.
cj225 02-23-2009, 05:08 PM I went to Philly with my dad and some woman told me to "Trip down the stairs" as I was heading to the bathroom...and not once, but TWICE!
We won that game 6-5 in OT with a Lukowich goal (I think)!

RMBoner Stabone 02-23-2009, 05:09 PM You will be ok, the place will have a decent amount of Devils fans (10% or so). Be careful amongst the savages and watch yourself at the urinals, Flyers fans in the men's bathroom make you wish you were in a Turkish Prison at some points of the game.

That might not be a bad idea. At least I could use it as a shield when they start throwing stuff.
RMBoner Stabone 02-23-2009, 05:55 PM Flyers fans turned on Lindros and is persona non grata. I've seen more fights in the lower levels than anywhere else. You will see alot of Devils fans in the ATandT pavillion and as long as you are not what they perceive to be an Ahole, you will be more than ok.
njdevil26 02-23-2009, 05:59 PM The trick to Flyers fans is that the quieter you are, the more crap you will get. They will see you as weak and just be that much worse to you. You have to give them some crap back. Nothing threatening.
When I was in the bathroom at the Wach last time someone saw me w/ my Devs jersey and was like "take that ugly jersey off a$$hole!" so I looked down at my jersey was was like "DAMMIT!!!! I wore the wrong one why do I keep doing that?!"
Then in the hallway some guy walked by and yelled "Devils suck!" So I yelled "you suck too sir!!!". And he laughed. No biggie.
But then my friend Vanessa got hit in the face w/ a beer and John got thrown down the escalator.

As long as you didn't get hurt, that's what matters. After all they are the league's most intimidating fans.:shakehead
I once had a guy in a business suit tell me that he would punch if I cheered for the Devils in the lower level and I just laughed at him and said if he was serious to take a swing now and get it over with.
TheDowder 02-23-2009, 06:15 PM WOW, thats some bad stuff. But, like i said, I'm not looking to cause any problems. I can handle some good natured chop busting. And I can dish it out just as well as I can take it. As long as its all in good fun, I can deal with it.

I really don't like the fact that the usher's and security and rabid Flyers fans and are way too onesided. Most of the time they are consumed with watching the game than keeping an eye on troublemakers.
It's not that you are trying to cause problems, it's the fact that some there are looking for problems.
TheDowder 02-23-2009, 06:23 PM Couldn't agree more. I'm just hoping its not too bad. But it is what it is. As long as the Devils win, I'll be happy.

The high water for % of Devils fans was the season that they sucked. The place has at least 15% Devils fans and lately I've been hearing more and more bus loads of Habs fans as well as other teams having huge road contigencies.
Point being, have a good time. Obviously, fans of other teams are making it to the Wachovia in droves and continue to do so.

It's a very nice arena. I suggest trying the philly cheese steak in the restaurant that's open earlier than the arena..
Just be respectful and don't take it overboard...They'll leave you alone for the most part. Pittsburgh is far FAR worse than Philly IMO (at least for hockey). Outside the Igloo security had to literally drag a guy away because he insisted on fighting me after the game...Also, there were kids screaming "devils ****** suck at me in front of their parents. In philly, the only incident was this huge older guy that got about 1 foot from my face and was spitting everywhere as he said "you guys couldn't even sell out a SCFs home game!!!" I just walked away..
Plus I got Simon Gagne's autograph after the game so that was cool..

I really don't understand where that comes from, because we clearly have sold out every single finals game we ever played in.

Every time we have been featured on national TV it has been sold out buildings in the playoffs. The CAA almost collapsed when we beat the Ducks.
People from New York really, really don't like having the spotlight taken away from them. It seems Rangers fans are raised by there fathers to talk about attendance, I saw a 10 year old talking about it once at a Devils/Rangers game.
Jealously is an ugly thing.

themiddle91489 02-23-2009, 07:28 PM I'm contemplating a trip to Boston for the Devils-Bruins game then. Any word on how their fans are? I'd assume I'll get an average amount of heckling, but I doubt it'll be anywhere near what it is in Philly.
DevsOwnYou 02-23-2009, 11:50 PM You're better of spending your money on more Devils home games or taking a trip up to Boston to see the Devs. The Flyers have the highest percentage of low class goon fans who feel they are actually on the team and want to fight opposing fans.
I have supported the Devs a few times down there and it is not fun, even though no one really said anything to me personally.
I heard a few Pens fans got jumped there on Saturday.
Be careful, we need all the fans we can get for our home playoff games.

I think you should be fine there. Also the city of Boston > the city of Philadelphia.

Judging from the comments, I must have had an odd experience. I went last year and cant recall anyone saying a thing at me, and I was in the Upper Bowl. No problems. I do remember a whaleuvawoman with less than the normal tooth count screaming at players though.
I'm contemplating a trip to Boston for the Devils-Bruins game then. Any word on how their fans are?
I had no problems in Boston either, nice arena. I called the Bruins PR guy and scored tickets right next to the Devils stick rack and 2 rows behind the bench, so the players were coming and going a lot and you could here them talking. It was interesting because I got to hear Stevens barking advice.
the city of Boston > the city of Philadelphia.
Oh yeah, and it's not even close. It's like saying the 2000 Devils > 1983 Devils

Lou's Koolaid 02-24-2009, 03:10 PM Iv'e been to so many games in Philly and the Garden and **** happens at random. Some nights you get very little and other nights you get nothing but, A-holes. Lower level always seems to be safer in Phila though. To me this can apply to homes games to. Sometimes Rag and Flyers fans don't give me any crap in our building and you can just have a good time and talk hockey. Then theres other nights when you gotta keep yourself from going to jail over this ****.

Check it...
You sit suite level (our goal bar and 1st floor suite level).
Access to the bar/resturaunt that looks like a chicago steak house.
You get seat side food and beer and soda for the standard concession prices.
Private concourse
Behind the net to the blue line is $65 bucks, and center ice I think is 85.....
Best seats in the house.
We sat in 204 and it was a great view.

ILikeItVeryMuch 02-24-2009, 04:29 PM It just the obnoxious factor that I saw when I went to Wachovia, it was kind of funny. But I can see opposing fans getting duped into going overboard, its not worth going to jail over.
My favorite visiting moment was from MSG, a preseason game of all games, the place is 25% full, I am in the last row of like the 300s or something. I get up to cheer a Rupp hit or something and some guy is like "hey, do you kkkkkknnnnnnoooooowwww where you are?"
