westbound65 02-23-2009, 01:53 AM Hey guys, Kings fan here, but the Ducks are my 2nd favorite team (yes it can happen) and the more I watch Bobby Ryan the more I'm bam-F**in-boozled that he hasn't replaced Kunitz on the top line playing LW....or for that matter at the very least been rewarded with consistent ice time.
I just don't get Carlyle sometimes and i'd like to know if its just me being short sighted or if it pisses you guys off too, cause the kid has mad skills and Kunitz...meh...he's a workhorse, but I've never liked him on the top line save for 2 years ago when it was him, Andy Mac, and Teemu.
So why is he being so poorly utilized?
Randall Graves* 02-23-2009, 01:55 AM Why waste Ryans talent on the top line when he can anchor the second?
westbound65 02-23-2009, 02:08 AM True....but you can't anchor squat with only 12 minutes of ice time, like last game

The Ducks took 10 minor penalties against Columbus and Bobby Ryan doesn't play on the PK.

And it's an awesome place to put a young sniper....right beside 1 of the best to ever play (SELANNE).keeping Ryan with Getz and Perry is good for a few shifts but let him learn with Teemu
MEEPSTER4 02-23-2009, 05:55 PM Rather than have one stacked line and a few average ones, they've been split up. He was great chemistry with Ebbett and Teemu on the other wing makes for a pretty impressive top 2 lines. I completely agree with Randy's decision to do this. I would like to see him PK some to become a slightly more complete player although I don't know how much that would benefit him.

You want to see Bobby Ryan on the PK?! Come on...

The simple fact is Kunitz plays better with Getzlaf-Perry than Ryan does. Taking the three most talented players does not always equal the best line.

Although their styles are different, Getzlaf also used to do a decent amount of PK time.
Randall Graves* 02-23-2009, 06:48 PM Actually PK'ing could be good for Ryan long term
kenabnrmal 02-23-2009, 07:02 PM Throwing a guy like Ryan on the PK makes for a pretty costly training tool. Who knows, maybe he'd take to it, but I'd like to see even a spec of defensive instincts out of him before he gets some PK time.
I suppose once they're completely out of the playoff race, you could give him a shot.
hockeydemon05 02-23-2009, 07:04 PM Yeah, it is a bit of a high risk move. But, if we become sellers, we could try him out on the PK the rest of the way. As of now, it'd be good to just let him do what he's been doing.
Ducks 02-23-2009, 07:31 PM I agree, lets have the most talented rookie forward in the league in front of the net on the PK blocking slapshots with his body. :sarcasm:

Yeah, do that and let's see how long our No. 1 rookie and potential superstar will last in this league.

Rick Nash and Joe Thornton are two players that come to mind who were never thought of as defensive players but were given the responsibility and did well
caliamad 02-23-2009, 10:10 PM I think Ryan's ability to beat people 1 on 1 would be a good experiment on the PK, when we're a few goals down. He's much more of an open ice guy than a puck possession person.
I like having him split up from Getzlaf's line and rather see him get those pk minutes and come back with Getzlaf intact/rested line immediately after a PK.

Thats a good point. I'm not sold on the idea, but what the heck.
