Maybe lazy isn't the word. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of his, but does he come off so mellow that he appears that way? He doesn't look intense what-so-ever. I realize he is a HOF in the making, but I am surprised how laxidasical he looks on the ice

Nah, Getzlaf has a way of mozying around on the ice...the problem, if it could be a problem, is that he is good enough to do it and still be a great player. The only time he doesnt look lazy is when he is angry, and thats when he is at his best. He has the ability to physically take over a game but only occasionally chooses to do so, while still somehow being incredibly dominant along the boards. Its weird and hard to explain.

I noticed this tonight more than before when the puck was dumped in a couple of times. It's almost like he's conserving his energy or something (and I'm going why is Getzlaf standing around like that?!?), but then then bam, he's plastering some Sabre against the boards and taking the puck away.

To be a top player, you HAVE to pick your spots. Even Ovy is doing it this season.

I think picking spots is the best way to describe Getz this season.
If you watch little kids playing midget hockey or something similar, you have 5 kids on each side, constantly racing at the puck... puck goes into the corner and BAM, you have 10 kids huddled in that corner, falling over eachother.
Getz is trying to play a bit defensive, and I think he doesn't want to get caught. It looks like the plan is that he is the first forward back, defensively. That might be why he constantly passes and never shoots or never charges the front of the net with the puck.
He just doesn't want to get caught deep in the opponent's zone.

Cropduster,
Last season I would totally agree with you as often it seemed like Getzy was coasting back into the defensive zone. During the beginning of the season I thought he was active, too active (trying to do too much) defensively and found himself out of place. However, I think he is playing smarter and backchecking effectively this season. He dominates in the offensive zone (Period).
My only criticism of Getzy is that he needs to be more selfish with the puck and shoot more. He has unbelievable skill and can change his shot better than anyone, nevermind how hard he can shoot the puck.
As a far as intensity. Getzy doesn't need to be anymore intense than he is or someone might literally get their face ripped off out there.
