McIver waived

Imo better D-man than Festerling and Mikkelson. With Sutherby and May traded this is following a pattern by Murray of getting rid of tough players. Im just surprised Parros was actually re-signed. So now our toughness consists of Parros and Montador :shakehead

I wish Burke was still here it was good while it lasted. Wonder if this is making room for a trade

If Pronger is traded and Moen won't be resigned, Ducks have gone back in time - straight to the era of Gauthier. Getzlaf is just about the only difference, back in the 90's Ducks had only 1 or 2 tough guys and bottom pairing d-man (Marshall, Pushor etc) to take care of the rough stuff.

Sad.

McIver was rarely in the line-up, so not sure what "toughness" we really lost. And I think you've overlooked the fact that the Ducks still have a lot of grit in their line-up in Pronger, Moen, Getzlaf, Kunitz, Carter. Now if you're talking about fighters, then maybe that's a different story, not that McIver was such a great fighter. The Ducks have a couple of "tough guy" defensemen in Iowa in the form of Brennan Evans and Logan Stephenson. Either could step in and fill the role that McIver did, although both have a higher cap hit than McIver.

He's not horrible. He has limited abilities but he plays to the best of them. I feel less concerned with him paired with Pronger than I do Mikkelson. But he's as good as he's going to get and he barely plays. If this is a move to open up a spot for Salcido than I'm all for it. But I liked having him on the team and hope he doesn't get picked up.

Is this really true by the way? So far I've yet to see anything official on this.

The strange thing is whats the point in waiving him? He looks good with Pronger, is physical, young, has size and has NHL experience.

Don't know why we didn't use him as our #6 dman and just send down Mikkelson. I'm kinda confused by this move. Perhaps this means Huskins is about to rejoin the lineup, but I'd still keep him around as a spare in case Huskins plays poorly.

He looks bad with Pronger, is 24 with not much potential, and doesn't have a spot on this team.

This is a stupid move, I'd rather see him out there instead of Mikkelson, who's clearly not ready for NHL duties yet.

Now who's our 7th defenseman, or will we just carry 6 until Huskins gets back?

Unless the move was made to free up whatever cap space he was using to help trade for a defenseman then I don't see the point.

He has looked better than anyone else they paired him with no one cares if he sucks in the NHL09 video game since thats where most your expertise is in

Don't even own NHL09. I've played it twice in my life...

If he looked so good why would he get waived? He looked bad, and he is.

I don't think waiving McIver in itself is a big deal, he's a fringe guy who was often scratched. I share, however, the sentiment that Murray is taking a bit too much grit and toughness away from the team.

Maybe Morrison and a pick to Calgary for a defenseman.

lol, pretty surprising that anyone actually cares about waiving mciver. we dont lose any toughness because he never played. he wasnt even the real 7th defenseman because when the 7th dman was needed they just called up mikkelson and had him play instead. pretty much a nothing move. good for iowa if he clears.

The point is he should have been playing and the fact that this team has gone from the toughest team in the league/cup winners to a more small,p ussy lineup that teams do not fear playing. Burke got him for a reason

Teams never feared playing the Ducks--these are professional athletes were talking about.

McIver is a decent #7 defenseman... He should not be playing. Give Mikkelson a few more weeks to improve; last game he looked alot better.

Im sure most will admit they did not look forward to facing the Ducks not sure if fear is the right word but you get the point. McIver has never looked out of place Mikkelson every game does few weeks to improve?

They didn't look forward to playing the Ducks because they were a great team. (Not even sure I stand by that statement).

Mikkelson is a 21 year old rookie...

Yeah sure millionaires are really scared of losing but not scared of getting pounded physically

Mikkelson is a rookie but not highly skilled, McIver is also young but adds an element this teams needs more. So id prefer this team plays the type of players that help the team win not develop "projects" and lose

I guess you didn't read the ().

Anyways, players aren't scared to play the Ducks because they have two enforcers in the lineup. It's very unlikely we see a Bertuzzi v2--Players choose to fight.

Meh. He'll probably clear. Well, Vancouver may take him back. If not, he goes to Iowa to help them out. And maybe the ice time will help him polish off the rust and he can come back up to help us (assuming he passes recall waivers).

It's possible Huskins is coming back or Salcido's coming up. I wouldn't mind seeing rookies (Mikkelson/Salcido) platoon the 6th Dman spot. I doubt it's for roster/cap room. I doubt it portends a trade, why make the move until the trade's finalized?

Honestly I thought McIver was bad. Not-even-7th-Dman-worthy bad. But Mikkelson's been worse, so who knows.

Yes the team is getting a little softer, but the guys going out (May, McIver) really haven't been good enough that their toughness earns them a spot IMO (or even played enough to make a difference). Except for Sutherby (who isn't really tough).
