Talentless Practise 01-29-2009, 03:57 PM I love George Parros. I mean, love George Parros. Great news! Mooseduck 01-29-2009, 05:33 PM Congrats George. Three years x $875,000 ... :loony: Spankatola Jamnuts 01-29-2009, 05:50 PM Well, that's one down, anyway. MEEPSTER4 01-29-2009, 06:07 PM :handclap: Paul4587 01-29-2009, 06:46 PM Where did you hear he was making 875000 from? Duckstudd269 01-29-2009, 07:10 PM Where did you hear he was making 875000 from? Sportsnet.ca Seems like to much for me. Should have been around 700k. kducks 01-29-2009, 07:30 PM  :hyper:  Dirk316 01-29-2009, 07:35 PM Sportsnet.ca Seems like to much for me. Should have been around 700k. Hes the best available enforcer and would have made more in the open market this is a bargain Now get Moen,Montador and Sami signed Bobby Smash 01-29-2009, 07:39 PM now, re-sign pahlsson at once! Buck Naked 01-29-2009, 10:34 PM Hes the best available enforcer and would have made more in the open market this is a bargain Now get Moen,Montador and Sami signed No on Moen, he's sucked balls this season. snarktacular 01-29-2009, 10:56 PM Good to get him re-signed. Maybe a tad high, and unusually long term for an enforcer. Especially with a possible falling cap in 2 years. But he's becoming a better hockey player, so maybe it'll work out. And he's a fan favorite. He might have gotten a tad more on the open market, especially with Burke in Toronto. TheJoeMan 01-29-2009, 11:08 PM I think his contract is indicitive of the expectations of his role in the coming years. Let's be realistic, 900k is too much for an enforcer who is the occasional scratch. Georgie has said he'd like to be more of a checking line guy and not have to be a fighter all the time. I think he has that potential in his game and would like to see him get there. McDonald19 01-29-2009, 11:11 PM Good signing. One of the UFA's I wanted the Ducks to bring back. Montador is the other. Pahlsson and Moen I'd be ok with. Huskins if it's only a 1 yr deal. please don't re-sign Marchant, Rob, Morrison, Larsen, Hedican Beauch will test the market and Scott will take all summer to decide on retirement. snarktacular 01-29-2009, 11:14 PM George is an interesting case since he's not a natural enforcer. That's just what he picked up to make it to the NHL. In his junior year, he was actually the teams' 2nd leading scorer. I'm not sure what happened his senior year though, when he went from 22 points to 7 (in 9 fewer games). His PIM numbers were also quite low in college, so he didn't even "illegally fight" (38 PIM vs Conboy's 76 while being suspended for the last 10 games). So he may just have it in him to become more of a stats-contributing hockey player, or perhaps a checker. We shall see. But if he does, we'll need an enforcer. Getzlaf the Great 01-30-2009, 05:08 AM I love me some Parros Jag68Sid87 01-30-2009, 07:53 AM Laraque got $1.5 million for 3 years. Godard got $750,000 for 3 years. If the $875,000 number is accurate, it seems in line with the others in my opinion. At least in terms of their playing ability. Of course, Laraque is a shell of what he was before the contract, but that's neither here nor there. I think this is a good deal. You KNOW Brian Burke had his eyes on Parros. Good signing. Finnpin 01-30-2009, 08:21 AM Great news! :yo: George is good enforcer and he can play too! kenabnrmal 01-30-2009, 08:25 AM Good to get him re-signed. A bit higher than one might expect for an enforcer, but he's the sort of character/community guy that is so important for a franchise as a whole. I liken him somewhat to Tie Domi's Winnipeg days, sans the doucheiness. Valuable far beyond what he brings on the ice. Great signing. Pahlsson and Montador next. Then it can all hit the fan... Pwnasaurus 01-30-2009, 09:07 AM A lot of this signing probably has to do with the fact that he puts dupa's in the seats and sells fake moustaches. Ticket/souvenir sales are nice to have in a fading economy. TheJoeMan 01-30-2009, 01:16 PM I wouldn't hold my breath on Sammy. This is probably his one and only chance to break the bank and/or pick the ideal team to play for. You know Burkie will throw a lot of money at Sammy and Kenny Holland will make a compelling argument to have him join the Swedish Wings. He may re-sign here but if he's agent is pulling his weight at all he'll wait until July 1st to at least hear what's out there. cheesymc 01-30-2009, 02:01 PM I wouldn't hold my breath on Sammy. I was thinking that Sami would play for the Wings for cheap since they have many of his comrades from Sweden. But I am not sure his style would fit the Detroit system. But then again, Babcock is the one that coached him when he turned things around. | ||
