Will Langenbrunner ever hit the net again?

I must have seen him miss like 3 easy shots. I don't mean score goals, I mean hit the goddamned net. I don't mean the Parise goal either, because he did that on purpose. But I counted like 3 easier shots he straight up just missed. Maybe its the drunk in me currently, but I'm getting sick of him missing the net.

Thats why he has Parise and Zajac on his line. He is not on their line to do this thing called "hitting the net." :sarcasm: But in all seriousness, he is playing like the Jamie Langenbrunner ive learned to love, and has earned my repsect as a top 6 forward. He is perfect for their line in so many ways, and even if he doesnt get 60 points, i will be happy with the leadership he has provided on that line, and in the dressing room.

No I know he's racking up a lot of assists, err, points, but the fact is I saw numerous opportunities where I was liek "Come on Jamie...****, he missed it again." My buddy pointed out that I had said that a lot.

This thread isn't to debate his other merits, just wondering if his shot will ever see the broadside of a barn again.

Don't underrate what Langenbrunner brings to that line. He is not a weakness in that line's two most important facets - puck possession in the offensive zone, and positional defense in the defensive zone.

No he wont.

Rolston wont go into the rough areas to retrieve the puck, wont set up a cycle like Jamie does and Zach is set to have a franchise year in points with him on his line. Rolston also plays with as much snarl as Jay Pandolfo. Love Rolston, but he has even said that he prefers to play with the more physical players.

fredthelen
01-18-2009, 07:54 AM
Gotta go with my European colleague. Rolston would add something else to that line, but I doubt this line would be better. Rolston might have more points on that line than with Clarkson and MAdden / Holik, but really, Rolston needs someone that draws the attention a bit away from him, and makes good passes so Rolston can let it go. Rolston would be a good fit with Elias and Zubrus though.

Jamie, as much as everyone has criticized him, myself included, has really taken his game back to the level he had, when everyone liked Jamie, a lot. He does have leadership qualities and does a good job of protecting his 2 kids on the line. Loved the thing he did on the faceoff yesterday, when one of the Isles took a jab at Parise and JAmie hit him slightly with his stick. That was pretty cool

As for the original question of this thread. JAmie will score a goal in one of the next 2 games.

Exactly. He has learned to not take penalties as much now, and he is really playing solid. He is hitting everything that moves, in control though, and he has been a good, gritty veteran presence for those two. Thats why they worked together in Zajac's rookie year, and thats why they are working now.

Well excuuuuuse me for being drunk! In addition to this, I also talked about butterfaces from the jersey Shore in the Isles' board GDT. So I was on a roll last night.
I love Lang's game, what he brings to the line, I just wish he'd hit the damn net every now and then. He did in that game against Ottawa, tied the game. He can do it, just too sporadically.

When was the last time Rolston was key in maintaining puck possession? That's not what he does, as he's not good in the corners except against undersized players. He rarely throws his body around at all. The main functional dynamic of that line is grit and hard work down low to retain the puck, while still having the chemistry and knowledge of each others' games to be able to score off the rush. Parise is good in the corners obviously, but for him to be scoring goals you need to allow him to move around the zone, which Langenbrunner does through his own physical play. With a line of Parise-Zajac-Rolston, it would be usually be Parise and Zajac digging in the corners and Rolston playing the target man, as opposed to Parise, our most consistent scorer, being able to free himself up for goalscoring opportunities since all three players on the line can work the boards.

Getting back on topic, um... dunno. But I love the way he is playing and I think he has really become this team's captain just by playing his own game.

Great posts. Sums up the situation to a T. You can't plug in two skilled offensive players in Parise and Rolston and assume it's going to work.

Langenbrunner is a great fit for that line and is not just piggy backing on Zach and Travis's success.

Rolston is arguably our softest forward and would not be a good fit for that line IMO.

Just appreciate the depth that we have and know that we have Brian Rolston on our 3rd line.

True, to an extent. His solid puck-possession, willingness to get dirty in the corner, and such certainly help the line, but if he were on any other line on this team, I'd bet my savings that he wouldn't be on pace for 60pts. Lots of assists in there.

Yeah, I have to (sadly) agree with this. Also, as much as Zajac is improved this year (and he has improved), it's a bit overdone due to Parise. Sorry, I know that will pizz off a lotofpeople, but it's the truth.
