OT: For those of you who play hockey, Who do you model your hockey game after?

Harrison Ford

I try to model my game after Langenbrunner, I shoot low so my teammates can get rebounds and such and i try to hit everything that moves. I love going down to block a shot and try to stay in front of the net as much as possible. Also i am a right handed shot. Sometimes when im not playing that well my game looks like Clarksons minus all the wraparounds.

How about you?

I actually learned alot about skating from watching Gomez. I'd say my first couple steps are very similar to his. I like rushing the puck up the ice like that, too.

Shooting, etc.-wise, I like to play the half-boards and have good hands around the net. I'm actually a year older than him so I couldn't really model my game after him growing up but I'd say Kane.

I'm also only about 5'9" 185, so similar physique to the little guy too.

Daniel Alfredsson. Good hands and offensive ability but also defensively responsible. He went down a notch in my book when he fired that puck at Nieds, but he's still a player who I have looked at as an example of what a well-rounded hockey player can be.

Parise, of this season, is another good example. Gritty in the corners and a great engine, but the ability at open ice to make things happen.

Also, Roddy Roddy Brind'Amour.

Im a goalie but Im just your average butterfly goalie, I wish I was good enough to play Brodeurs style.

But...when I play forward I hate to say but I remind myself of David Clarkson (minus the wraparounds). I cant skate for ****, I have pretty good hands, I dont have much hockey sense, and I love to get under peoples skin

i am such a bender. i will admit. i have only been skating for a year but i am pretty fast and have no technique whatsoever. i also can barely stop, so i just try to find people to hit on the boards to slow me down. im like that kid from mighty ducks...

Probably Adam Oates, because I always look to pass first. To me, making a great pass is just as fun as scoring.

When I played defense Scott Niedermayer, when I played the wing probably someone like Cam Neely. When I played defense I was pretty small so I used my vision and skating to play the game. I still played tough in my corners, when I added a lot of height and weight I started playing forward and found it really easy to push people of the puck and win battles in the corners and in front.

I Play the Same Type of Game as Brendan Morrow. I'll be looking for the person with the puck and i won't hesitate to throw a hard check, no matter who the player is. I Score Plenty of Goals, my passing game isn' that great, but i somehow get a lot of assists. I Like to lead by example. I Also will do anything to win the hockey game (Ilya Kovalchuk)

I was always probably one of the smallest players on the ice, so I really modeled my game after Gio for awhile, because I play the same way, never give up on the puck always hustling, going into the corners, I was also known for hitting the biggest guys, like Gio vs Chara.

But I did pick up my skating with the puck from watching Gomez, like somebody already said. And I am a good passer, and I watched Gomer for that too.

growing up I was pretty good, actually. I wanted to be Scott Niedermayer more than anything. I always led the rush, I was an advanced skater at an early age and used that to my advanatage.

Its funny because i was actually a fairly unathletic kid that could just play the game really well. But, that's why I'm not anywhere near the pros.

I usually play defense now but I rush the puck a lot off of turnovers. I'm a decent skater (I've seen enough great skaters to know I'm not one of them) but it's good enough for the leagues I play in. I can stickhandle pretty well (thanks years of roller hockey). My favorite play is when the opposing winger loses track of me I'll slide into the high slot and look for a pass from the corner. I have a hard and accurate wrister that I have a lot of confidence in. I guess when I play forward I try to play like Mogilny where I try to find space in the zone to receive a pass where I can get my shot off. I'm not the best passer but I'm trying to work on it.

I'm just starting, but I'm trying to model my game after a mix of Parise and Clarkson (I know, odd combo). Parise for his hustle and work ethic, Clarkson (especially the Clarkson of the past few months) because he's not a great skater but he still manages to be effective out there. Though I don't have his toe drag skills.

Ahh you reminded me about my hockey sense. I have alot of it, and i know what to do, but alot of times i cant do it because of my ****** skating. :help::facepalm:

I don't play organized hockey anymore, but I used to. Peter Forsberg has been a big influence on my playing style. I love setting up a play with a nice pass, though I play less physical than Forsberg.

Well I'm confused by the question being asked here. I try to model my game after certain players, but it usually doesn't end up that way.

If I'm playing forward, I bring Jan Hrdina's faceoff prowess and Bob Corkum's grace and talent.

On defense, I'm like Mottau with the occasional Oduya when I'm skating backwards.

anyone been playing pond hockey in NJ recently? It is freezing and all the ponds are frozen rock solid. It's been quite the fun time

Before I went to college (and had ****** skating skills), I tried to play like Brett Hull. I always had a rocket of a shot. When I was playing in the teenage roller hockey division in Montvale (around 15-16 years old) I got asked how old I was by a lot of the adult-league players who were there watching the end of our game before theirs started. So I floated around the left circle looking for 1 timers all the time, and wasn't much of a player (compared to the talent of the league) before I went to college.

Then I was forced to become a better skater when I practiced with my school's D1 club roller hockey team for a whole year. When I came back for the summer I had to play defense because our team at Montvale was TERRIBLE, and I basically became the Niedermayer of the league. Teammates and some of the friends I made on other teams were telling me it was un-real how much better my skating got, and I lead the rush all the time. Ended up with 33 points in 12 games that season on defense. :yo:

great question.

i play both goal and skater.... in goal i cant play the straight up butterfly due to a left knee tendon problem so i go with a right pad/paddle down instead. and the fact i wear the stupidest small pads/equiptment i can find so i can move easily side to side and get up quick with less weight seems to help me. (and a straight blade) love the old Tony O skate at the player on a breakaway and ....slide at them. always brings a rise out of players and crowd (crowd term used loosely). so ya, marty....espo and old school goalies who wore brown pads.

when im out... as a forward i cant think of a name i model my game after. i have zero slapshot, never had one... im hard on the puck and love to throw weight around. decent sense. good defensively. (you have to be if you've ever played net).

i dont know who.... i just play the way i feel the game should be played.

I did everyday of the winter break, and now it is perfect for tomorrow. I went on the ice a little bit tonight. I love this weather because last year we didnt get to play that much. Now we can go out pretty much every day and night for a week or so more. I love getting on the ice whenever i can.

Johnathan Toews, Frans Nielsen kind of mix.

Just throwing this one in for the Devs fans, in my roller league at our complex I play in I did a Parise move. The one he did on Dubie a few years back in that crazy last game of the season we needed to win to get into the playoffs. He goes up kicks his leg up like hes going to take the shot then goes backhand. Ever since I saw it, I practiced it. Nasty move.

Nieds. I try to be everywhere in my zone, doing everything I possibly can. And I know when to rush and the spots to go for oppurtunities.

Will never skate like him, though.

I have one breakaway/shootout move kind of like Langs. I go in and either just release my shot high glove side or i fake and go backhand. The only varying being whether i put it 5 hole or high blocker side. It works though.

I have four shootout moves, completely stolen from what ive seen the devils do, and man do they work.

first one is the OT goal Jamie scored againts ottawa, last game at CAA.

next one is the Parise fake shot backhand forhand he did on Theodore this year

And the last one is doing the elias move he did against tampa, but missed. it was exactly like the one last year against the rags to beat them for the first time, except, right at the last second you quickly go to your backhand and put it around the goalies right pad (im a righty).

I can also do the Forsberg one, you know, the one handed thing.

Im working on fake shot, quick through five hole, but my hands are alot slower than my feet so im having some trouble.

I like to wait the goalie out and shoot right side.
They tend to come out far enough so as I have enough room to pull it off.

It's kinda hard to say because I definitely tried to model my game after guys like Stephane Richer (slapshots), Joe Sakic (Wristers) and then Mario Lemieux with the finesse and creativity.

Surprisingly considering my build, I'm a real fast skater and quite agile so I can do some fancy, creative **** when the timing is right. Even more surprising is that I got on skates after YEARS about two weeks ago and can still do the **** and I'm in by far the worst shape of my life. :biglaugh: I guess it's like riding a bike...

But for me, despite who I always looked up to, my game never amounted to any of their styles. My slapshot, while it potted me quite a few goals, I always worried so much more about power that a good portion of the time I shot it halfway across the state of New Jersey. haha. But I was clocked at either 88.6 or 86.8MPH when I was about 13 or 14 years old, so I did have the power. Also, I hurt my own goalie in practice one day slapping a rebound from just above the circles when I played defense. haha.

Plus all the guys I just mentioned played a very respectable game and though physical at times weren't exactly aggressors. I always play with intensity and grit, so in the long run I'd say I was more like Claude than Mario, except unlike Claude, I would have fought anyone at any time for the right reasons seeing as I usually wore a C or A. You didn't **** with my teammates for any reason, including the ones that could defend themselves.

And lastly, although I only played 2 games as a goalie, I modeled myself after the obvious: Marty. Wasn't too bad at goalie, despite being 1-1 in my two games, but at least my win was a shutout I guess. The loss though, was in the playoffs. :(

Edit: I really got caught up in the nostalgia. haha

When I played forward, I tried to be like Eric Lindros but according to my Dad/coach I looked just like Clarkson

Ahahaha, that's badass. Allthough I'm sure your exaggerating the truth. I'm sure you wait till the end of the game for a brew? ;)

I usually pop out for a cig between periods. That's really bad I know, but I need it to keep my nerves in check.
