Parise being a future Hart winner

When Parise's career is all said and done, would you be surprised if he did win it or would you be surprised if he didn't?

Simple question.

No Devil should ever ever win a Hart if Marty hasn't won one.

If Ovechkin gets hurt he might. I'm content with the fact that we're even talking about this though. Give him the C.

The Caps make the playoffs without Ovechkin. Green, Backstrom, Semin can get them there.

I don't see it and one of the reasons is their goaltending is their big achillies heel, and the Caps probably feed off AO more than any other team and their best player.

i can't see him winning it here. If he left maybe. He'll never get proper attention with the way we run our organization.

I'd be absolutely shocked if any Devil ever won the Hart trophy. Not as long as it's voted on by hockey writers.

Before this year I would have agreed with you 100%. But watching Parise this year has been a revelation, we all probably thought he was going to continue to put up nice numbers but nothing more than what is expected from a 2nd tier star.

But he is heading for a 50g, 50a (100pts) season - Hart numbers and superstar status numbers.

He is not our fathers and uncles Devils player we are use to seeing. And with him getting better and better along side Zajac, lord knows what he could do down the road.

Did Elias even sniff the Hart in 2001? His numbers may reflect that of a superstar but he'll go largely unnoticed.

It's not about whether he deserves consideration. It's about whether ******* writers actually watch the games and ignore their biases. I bet if the Penguins miss the playoffs this year and Crosby has less points than Malkin he will still get more Hart votes than Parise.

Sakic won it and Jagr finished 2nd, not sure where Elias finished, maybe top five?

Vinnie, you know I am not just talking about this year but after that as well, frankly more in the future than this year, I see no chance for him to win it this year.

But if down the road he puts forth a season even better than this and easy cracks the 100 point mark and the Devils win the EC or the Presidents Trophy, that could change everything.

But I do share your concern about writers bias in these voting, I mean just the other day some assclown in Arizona voted Matt Williams into the HOF and omitted the best leadoff hitter in baseball history, you do have to wonder who are behind these ballots.

Basically what would need to happen would be no more Marty and he puts the team on his back while the rest play adequate but nobody else near his numbers. Like this season Patty is right there with him at the moment so that off sets his accomplishments this year. But in the future i would be damned surprised.

I don't think even if he left the Devils that he'd win one. The media likes their canadian and russian etc players, Parise doesn't get the attention he deserves.

If Marty hasn't won one yet, neither will Zach. People will find some way to diminish his performance. Once people realize that we don't play the trap anymore they're going to say he benefits from Sutter's system or scores too many garbage goals. Rover's son will probably be here in a few years arguing that Kyle Wellwood is better.

and both were Hart considerations. Why don't they just change the Hart trophy to whoever has the most points. When a team has both a Malkin and Crosby, it should effectively negate either of them being a candidate for the Hart.

Let's just say that I was not at all surprised about the outcome of the US Presidential Election this year, but if a NJ Devil ever wins the Hart Trophy, I'll be surprised. There are some things our country will never be ready for! ;)

EDIT: My vote is contingent on the Devils never letting this kid play for anyone else.

Caps goaltending is better than their defense.

I think Parise has a chance to win it if the conditions all come together. I think playing for an organization like NJ hurts his chances. He's playing lights out this year, and people aren't noticing. He's one of a handful of secondary stars in this league that deserve some of the endless ink that Sidney the Kidney gets.

Parise has been getting some recogniton from the national media. He was mentioned as a Hart candidate in an article about a week ago.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/allan_muir/01/09/first.half.awards/index.html

HART TROPHY
(Player adjudged to the be the most valuable to his team)

Alexander Ovechkin, Washington

Also considered:
Zach Parise, New Jersey
Marc Savard, Boston
Jarome Iginla, Calgary

LADY BYNG MEMORIAL TROPHY
(Gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of play)

Zach Parise, New Jersey

Also considered:
Pavel Datsyuk, Detroit
Jarome Iginla, Calgary

...

No knock on three-time defending champ Datsyuk (45 points and just 10 PiM), but it's time to step aside for a very worthy successor in Parise. The diminutive dynamo has been lights-out for the surprisingly offensive Devils. His 22 goals and 46 points both rank fifth in the league while his eight minor penalties testify to the value of clean living.

Being able to do it year in and year out is the difference. Being the primary threat is a difference. And yes, being the big dog in a large market makes a difference.

But prior to this year, Parise's best is 65 while Ovechkin's worst is 94. When Parise finishes 30 points ahead of Ovechkin for 3 straight years, I will gladly say Parise is a bigger star than Ovechkin.

Lebrun from ESPN does not count as a hockey journalist. haha

Seriously when the season ends there will be one guy saying PArise should be a finalist but when the voting comes out he'll be around 8th or 9th. Just like Elias in 2001.

yes, but most of those players are guys that have done it for an extended period of time, are guys that were great in the past, or are guys that have great relationships with the media. Does Parise deserve more ink? Absolutely, but just about anyone in the league not named Ovechkin, Price, Malkin, and Crosby deserve more ink.

Someday. Not this year.
NJ will start to get the attention they deserve, the numbers do not lie.
If they play the hockey they have been this season in the playoffs, where there is no ignoring them, the team will get noticed in the media.
Parise can start to be mentioned on conversations about awards in shows not on MSG+, where it already happens.
Yes, Marty has deserved it for years. But that was then. The times, they are a'changing.
