Bottom line, the Pens are a soft team and they were basically handled by a big Washington Capitals team. When one of your best players states he doesn't understand why a player on the other team is trying to hit him, you know your a soft team.

I dont know, Luko is much more mobile than him and there defensive game is about the same and he would compliment Martin so well. Also having two eyes helps...

I'm not sure where this should go, but I just wanted to get something off of my chest regarding the Buffalo Sabres and their brass.

Last night on XM they interviewed Darcy Regier and asked him if he thought speed was still one of their premier weapons, as it has been in years since the lockout. His response was that the league has been allowing more hooking and obstruction this year in order to "make room" for the larger players that it is getting back to.

I'm not trying to bash the Sabres AT ALL here. In fact, thanks in large part to my wife, I find myself rooting for them every night that they play 28 teams in the NHL. But I feel like Regier and Ruff both tend to lean toward excuses when it comes to the media before much of anything else. Ruff has been much better this year from my viewpoint, but this statement seemed like a setback of sorts. I think in order to really compete, they've got to let that kind of statement remain unsaid.

Maybe he was trying to come up with any answer OTHER than "yeah, Briere and Drury were pretty awesome" or maybe he's right and I am just missing something, but I don't know how one could watch the NHL today and even insinuate that they're letting this stuff go.

They're a small, finesse team. They'd rather have guys like Vanek and Roy slip the cracks.

They might be letting more stuff go... just to keep some of the flow. But by and large there are still more powerplays this year then pre lockout. I'll see if I can find the stats to back that up
