Gary Bettman states time and time again how he wants to protect the players especially goalies.
Yet this season I have seen Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers get plowed by opposing players on numerous occasions with only one goaltender interference penalty being called. Meanwhile, the Rangers have taken a number of questionable goalie interference penalties themselves.
Either Bettman needs to start fining these players or he needs to get the referees to consistently start calling these penalties.
Lunqvist is one of the NHL's stars and he has made some amazing saves over the years.
The NHL needs to crack down on the players who are trying to prevent him from even saving the easy goals.

the league is out to get us ZOMGZ! :scared::scared:
mandaX 01-13-2009, 12:18 PM I know he's talking about the Queen, but he does have a point, I was screaming about this last year about how Brodeur was pretty much getting constantly molested with no penalties ever called. I guess the referees assume if you're a hall of fame/Vezina goalie you don't need help :(.

I think the point here is that people don't complain when it happens to Brodeur but as soon as that girl Lundqvist is fouled it's a big issue.

Maybe Chere and Tom G should scream louder for Marty then? :)
ILikeItVeryMuch 01-13-2009, 12:24 PM Oh boo-hoo, last season it was practically a conga-line straight into Marty's crease.

Cowbell232 01-13-2009, 12:43 PM This, coming about the team that had Sean Avery?
Sheesh.
jkrdevil 01-13-2009, 12:55 PM I guess what comes around goes around.
BenedictGomez 01-13-2009, 01:02 PM Am I the only one that's going to completely disagree?
This league went from a time when you could decapitate a goalie not wearing a mask with your stick to a league where if you huff and puff on a goalie you get sent to the box.
There needs to be some moderation.
And lets not BS ourselves, this became a "protection" issue around the time players got paid millions of $$$$$, meaning, owners didnt want to see their high paid assets in the infirmary.
So where are we now?
Overprotective of goalies that now get to wear MASSIVE amounts of equipment to "protect them", which everyone knows is a bunch of crap. The MASSIVE equipment worn by the MillerGiggyLuongoLundqvist monster is designed to take up the entire net and keep the puck out. It's FURTHER TROUBLING in a league that now uses the gimmick to decide a "winner", because goalies like the MillerGiggyLuongoLundqvist beast are virtually impossible to beat in a H2H shootout against a "normal" sized NHL goalie. Rule 21 needs to be enforced.
School is out :teach2:
The End.

You forget that during those times when you could decapitate a goalie, defencemen were actually allowed to clear the crease, there was no instigator penalty, goalies used to be able to hack at players ankles when they came close to the crease, and you didn't have cowards crashing the net and then turtling when challenged to a fight.

Yeah, I miss the days of angry, psychopathic, stick-hacking goalies like Ron Hextall & Billy Smith.
Conversely, we are now stuck in the era of delicate, fancy-boy type goaltenders like Henrik Lunqdvist who complain to the commissionor of hockey, who ironically, is the sole reason and architect of the feminization of the league to begin with.

You mean back when it was the NHL, not the NPHL (National Pansy Hockey League). That's how it should be. Players should police themselves and if you are going to try to turtle, someone should beat the **** out of you regardless and receive a roughing at most. That surely will cut down on people crashing the net.

Broduer has a LOT of Hextall in him. He's had several mean streaks in his career and isn't afraid to chop the ankles of someone in his crease.

I think the 'turtle' should get a penalty on top of that for being a pansy. haha
MauDevils 01-13-2009, 04:40 PM Oh boohoo. How many times did the Rangers run over Brodeur? Wave sticks in his face? Now they are crying because it's happening to them?
Until goals that don't go in are ruled goals (Devils)
or Goals that went in are ruled no goals (Dallas)
Than I don't want to hear any of this crap. There's plenty of REAL problems with the NHL and the consistency in their calls. This is just another one to add to the list, definitely low on the priority list.

You mean like Nigel "I'll run em coach" Dawes?
This guy mysteriously falls into goalies more than anyone not named Avery. Remember the sliding with puck under him into Marty last year and the goal counted? ugh...

 I've calmed down a bit with games against the Rangers but that one really pissed me off.. Especially, since my friends who were Ranger fans, kept saying it was a pure goal of hard work
