I am just curious, as Russia was 5 seconds from the gold medal game who do you guys think would have won a Russia-Sweden final in hindsight had it happened.
Who would have won a Russia-Sweden finalwildone26* 01-05-2009, 11:18 PM I am just curious, as Russia was 5 seconds from the gold medal game who do you guys think would have won a Russia-Sweden final in hindsight had it happened. Cardiac_Canes 01-05-2009, 11:19 PM Probably Sweden. No one can get their opponents off their games like we can. Big Phil 01-05-2009, 11:22 PM I'll say Russia. Sure the Swedes beat Russia 5-0 but its a whole new animal in the elimination games. Checks are tighter the stakes are higher etc. Just by seeing both teams I know Russia gave us a lot more fits. At the end of the 1st period vs. Russia the score was 2-2. I was extremely apprehensive. At the end of the first period it was 1-0 Canada. But there was never any doubt that Canada was going to win that game, you could just feel it. You know when you get that feeling? The aura? Well it was there in that game. CanuKer 01-05-2009, 11:23 PM hmm i'd say Sweden wildone26* 01-05-2009, 11:23 PM I voted Russia but I am not sure. I think it would have been alot closer than the round robin game. Spasmic Dan 01-05-2009, 11:24 PM Canada still would've won. :sarcasm: Kidding aside, my vote is for Sweden. But it would've been tight I think. Viktri 01-05-2009, 11:24 PM I'll say Russia. Sweden has always had trouble playing against Canadians and that showed today, but the Russians style of play would have fitted this Swedish team much better. Westcoasthabsfan 01-05-2009, 11:27 PM who really cares, why isnt that an option, maybe you should play in on NHL 09 and find out Harbourmouth 01-05-2009, 11:28 PM You can't ever judge a Russian team prior to the medal round. They seem to float through it, and start playing when it counts. I think Russia would have beaten Sweden handidly today. That Sweden really wasn't that good. Not even close to as good as the team they had last year (a sentiment shared by Zach Boychuk echoed during a post-game interview on the Fan 960). Sweden benefited from getting to face Slovakia in the semis. I'm quite confident the US would have beaten them too. ryz 01-05-2009, 11:28 PM Probably Sweden. No one can get their opponents off their games like we can. Well said. I've never really thought about this before but it's a great point. When you play Canada in a game that matters (especially in Canada), you don't just have to beat them in terms of offence, defence and goaltending. You also have to beat the myth and the emotion. Canada was in the Swedes heads (see some of the pre-game comments some of the Swedes made) before the game started. And if not then, it was less than a minute later. Maurice Richard* 01-05-2009, 11:29 PM Russia ..easily . Davebo 01-05-2009, 11:30 PM I like Russia vs the swede. They were skating well, and would have been well motivated had they been able to hold on and beat us. I would certainly root for them, now more than ever after the loony ravings of the more vocal posters here. Maurice Richard* 01-05-2009, 11:32 PM Russia played with honour , no ridiculous shenanigans . tylerbear* 01-05-2009, 11:33 PM Russia SenorDingDong 01-05-2009, 11:42 PM Russia. While watching the Canada-Russia game I never knew who was gonna win. Watching this game tonight there was never really a doubt that Canada was going to take it. You could tell just by the play on the ice even before anyone scored. Acekicker123 01-05-2009, 11:43 PM Sweden. They dominated Russia the last time they met too. cc 01-05-2009, 11:46 PM It's close, but I think if Russia played against Sweden like they played against Canada, I think they might take it. They just seem to play with such passion against some teams like Canada, but strangely, they don't seem to bring their 'A' game against Sweden for some reason. Fabs 01-05-2009, 11:55 PM The Russia that played Canada in the semi's would have beat the Swedes tonight. Maurice Richard* 01-06-2009, 12:09 AM Yeah but Sweden didnt play that goalie all the swedish poster were talking about all tournament ..the guy that no one can score on he was gonna shut us out and stuff ..how come they didnt play him??? bullocks 01-06-2009, 12:12 AM Pointless. Here goes some more arguing. Darth Sidious* 01-06-2009, 12:13 AM I'm still going to go with Canada. After all, we paid the refs for that gold medal! Ballard4Prez 01-06-2009, 12:14 AM Sweden... 5-0:sarcasm: Cappo619 01-06-2009, 12:42 AM NONE...THEY BOTH LOST TO CANADA HI-OOOOOOOOOOOOH! :P.. TBH, Russia..They are WAY different than any previous years (More grit, less flailing), and Sweden took a page from Russia's playbook in the GMG this year.. ViD 01-06-2009, 12:42 AM Of course Russia. There's no way we could have given gold away after win against Canada. | ||
