Who do you expect to see in the NHL, be it for one game, based on this years' WJC?

My personal favorites to make it to the big league would be:

Obvious: Karlsson
Hoping: Subban
Longshot: Janus

There is no way Karlsson plays for Ottawa nezt year......unless some sort of a miracle happens and he turns into Nik Lidstrom.

Not next year necessarily, in the many years to come.

6-8 canadian players will be in the NHL next year, happens every year... 14 players from last year played at least 1 game since

I see Subban playing next year, but Karlsson needs to gain weight and work on a few things before he can make it to Ottawa, but it would be huge for the Sens if he could make it next year.

Hodgson has pretty much locked up a spot as our 2nd/3rd line centre next year.

Is the Canadiens defense that weak that he would make they're lineup next yr?

If it's in the many years to come im sure all of Canada's line up will atleast play 1 game, but as for sustaining a spot in a lineup.

Hodgson, Tavares, Eberle, Backlund, Andersson, Subban, Hickey, etc etc.

Esposito seems to be the forgotten Canadian in this tournament. Everyone's talking about the play of Tavares, Hodgson, PK, Eberle etc and for good reason. But I was very impressed with Esposito's play in the final two games.

No freaking way. If people were complaining about his defensive flaws against 20 year olds he would be destroyed by NHL players.

Tavares is gone, Hodgson won`t be back.

I could see Eberle playing with Edmonton simply since they have a young team.

Esposito imo just locked himself up. Everyone criticizes him but aside from Hogdson and Tavares there was no one better offensively then him in the past 2 games. His attitude has changed dramatically. He hits, backchecks, forchecks, takes hits, makes plays. I was really impressed with him and at 20th overall he will look like a steal.

Another guy is Tyler Myers. I don`t think he`s a project anymore. I think he can play in the NHL next year. He`s got great tools and defensively no canadian player was better. He`s so smart, lanky, smooth and mobile it`s almost unfair.

Zach Boychuck is also a lock to make the `Canes next year.

Subban will be a great player in the NHL. But he`s a guy who needs to go play in the AHL for a bit. Offensively and creativity wise, I think he could play next year. However, he needs to improve his defense and his reads a bit. There`s no doubt he can play though.

Well they are that weak offensively, save for Markov.

It's not a testament to the Canadiens defence as opposed to a compliment on how far Subban has come. He had two excellent training camps with the Habs, even sticking until the last day this year. When he was drafted he was seen as a defensive liability, now he's seen as reliable in all zones. Even Pat Quinn felt comfortable enough to put PK out there in all situations, which is saying a lot. If he can add a little muscle to that frame I think he might make the jump next year. Who knows. What we do know is that he's answered every challenge given to him.

After tonights game I see two very good future NHLers, apart from the obvious: Myers and Kane. Myers was just a beast tonight and he really used his size and reach to his advantage. He won't be an offensive star, but he will be a defensive stalwart for years.

Kane is a highly touted prospect this year, but not enough can be said about the strides he made this tournament. He really became exceptional down the stretch. Speed, size, grit, hands, awareness at both ends of the rink. He jumped leaps and bounds the last few games and I hope to God Gainey pulls off a miracle to trade up in order to draft him.

Tyler Myers really impressed me this game. He is definitely a shutdown Dman. For some reason, Subban is getting all the hype but I saw him get undressed a few times tonight. Good player but I'll take Myers thank you. And I wish he would have put his hat on straight at the end. Looked kinda dopey.

For all the heat Subban gets for his defensive play I find it sort of odd that he is a tournament best +12. Of course I do think the +/- stat is a bit overused.

Eberle says hello.

I really liked what Eberle has done, but I think he's being just slightly overrated due to scoring that tying goal. Biggest goal of the tournament of course, but just one goal.

He was just as good as Hodgson in the final 2 games in my opinion; 4 goals (including SO winner) and 2 assists against Russia and Sweden is pretty damned good; he stepped his game up considerably when the time called for it. I think a lot of players wouldn't have showed the calm poise he displayed on that tying goal against Russia.

Also If he had been credited properly in the tournament for assists he would've been right up there with Hodgson in points. In the Kazakhstan game he was jibbed on two or three assists and he also wasn't credited with a deflection on Hodgson's goal in one game.

Oh, So true! If only everyone would realize that one goal is being sooo overhyped and its the only reason he is getting any attention...

STOP, hammertime... lets let the facts speak for themselves, jack...

Eberle finishes the tournament 2nd on Canada for goalscoring and 3rd overall in PTS. He contributed a little more than just that one loooowwwlyy tournament-saving goal. Of course he has a knack in his career for showing up in big moments, and luckily he elected not to buck that trend in Ottawa..

Frankly I think Eberle is getting undervalued here. Eb's was key ES, PK and PP.

Sorry for going off on a tear, but I'll get back to the OP now.. as he was discussing the last 2 games after all... Eb's had what, 3g 2a 5pts in the last 2 along with the shootout winner against RUS? Thats making a pretty strong case...

But really I'm being kind of petty. Hodgson and Tavares had a great tournament and I hate taking away from that.... Or do I? Tavares racked up most of his points on the PP and Hodgson seemed a bit of a puck-hog/awkward decision maker in the offensive zone. Ha. Unfortunately for my visual interpretation the stats don't seem to back that up as he finished tops in assists with 11. Definitely surprised me.

From my perspective Eberle was the best all-around forward this tournament. Very close call between Hodgson, Tavares and Eberle... But I thought Eberle was just great at every single aspect of the game, and he was a total team player all the way. Tavares is a year younger than these guys so theres no need to remark how impressive his tournament has been. Somehow Hodgson comes out leading in A's and P's, but the major credit I am more keen to concede is his complete game, showing up out there on the PK as well. He is a competitor.

Edit: Eberle also leads Canada's forwards in +/- , just a little statistic to bolster my "saw him good" perspective.

so the kid who outskated nearly everyone in the last camp, was named to the all tourney team, was the true "shut" down and most offensive (aside from ellis) d-man, emotional leader - won't make it

Yet the kid who was cut THREE times and couldn't even, as a high draft pick, break into Atlanta's AHL team will????

Were we watching the same WJC??

I think the following will be on an NHL roster next year

John Tavares
Cody Hodgson
Zach Boychuk
Viktor Hedman
Oscar Moller (obviously already there)
James Van Riemsdyk
Colin Wilson
Nikita Filatov

of all the drafted players, only tyler myers looked like someone close to nhl ready(as a 6th defenceman....sort of like mike lundin of tampa bay last year). for others there is a lot to work on(esp the defensive zone coverage)

Subban will make it eventually, but not next year. Habs are getting all their current D's back (if Komi re-signs) and guys like Weber and Carle are offensive minded blueliners and are ahead of Subban on the depth chart as of right now.

Subban should play in Hamilton next season.

Esposito has a fair shot at making the Thrashers out of camp... have you seen their team?

This doesn't mean Esposito is a better player than Subban or anything, they don't even play the same position anyway.

same thing was said last year, and of the chicago wolves (Who said he couldn't even compete in practice) Its nice that once again he won a gold medal by letting guys like PK, tavares and a bunch of 17yr olds do ALL the heavy lifting but don't kid yourself that somehow that changes anything. IF the kid is smart he'll FINALLY absorb some of the cohones inherent in guys like subban, boychuk, tokarski (who understand what HARD work means) and elevate his game to the pro level.

Or he can go back to being a pretty figure skater who mooches off of good teammates, either way we'll see if he can even make the ahl let alone the nhl
