I Remember during draft day when the Ottowa Senator fans were like WHO THE HELL IS THIS GUY???
Well, we all know that Erik Karlson is a beast.
Canuck71 01-05-2009, 10:19 PM Tyler Myers got jobbed
I could not agree with you more. He just played so solidly throughout the whole game/tournament and was unbeatable 1 on 1. Glad a American realizes this to. Myers and Hodgson were by far my two favourites this tournament.
Myers will be one hell of a NHL player if he keeps this up.
Tyler Myers got jobbed
I would hope at least 5-8 defenseman got jobbed, how does PK Subban win that award? He is like a 4th forward on the ice.

Because he's flashy, therefore more noticeable, no doubt he's good but Myers was a beast, especially late in the tourney. Looks like he's not as much of a project as previously thought.
Kid is legit.

God Bless Canada 01-05-2009, 10:28 PM No major qualms with any of these. I would have gone with Janus over Markstrom for top goalie, but I don't fault them for picking Markstrom. I actually wouldn't have complained if Janus was the tournament MVP, but I don't blame them for picking Tavares. Subban had one bad game, and I thought that might cost him an all-star spot, with Goncharov getting the other all-star selection. Subban was tremendous again tonight. No spin-o-ramas.
Whitesnake 01-05-2009, 10:31 PM I would have given the player of the game to Myers. That way, everybody has something.

How is the top goaltender not on the all-star team, or how is the all-star team goaltender not the top goaltender. However you want to ask the question, this doesn't make sense.
I would have liked to see Tomas Tatar on the all-star team. He did have 7 goals and 11 points (same as Filatov), but that's less arguable than saying that Janus should have been the top goaltender.

Just wish he was a bit bigger, but yeah it looks to have been a good pick.

The IIHF Directorate picks the Top Forward, etc. The All-Star team is voted on by the media (I don't know who makes up the media for these purposes).
Riddarn 01-05-2009, 10:51 PM Ridiculous that Hodgson didn't get MVP. He was clearly better than Tavares in every game I saw.
Also.. Erik Karlsson sucked in both the Semis and the Final. Hedman outplayed him in both games where it mattered, and by quite a bit. Saying that tho, he was not the best overgrown defender in this tournament. Tyler Myers was.
Asquaredx2 01-05-2009, 10:52 PM Karlsson:
-all-star team
-top defenceman
-first swedish skater named to the top-3 players list
-player of the gold medal game for Sweden
-18

Lee Van Cleef 01-05-2009, 10:57 PM Classy to boo during the Awards ceremony.
wildone26* 01-05-2009, 11:00 PM There were quite a few hard choices as many players were worthy. I am glad they split the goaltender awards between the two though as both deserved.

I agree Myers should have won something. I also would have gone with Hodgson over Tavares. I mean the guys plays much better two way hockey than JT and he even outscores Tavares to boot. What more could he have done. No I am not a Canucks fan in anyway shape or form btw.
#11_THEBEST! 01-05-2009, 11:08 PM Classy to boo during the Awards ceremony.
They only booed at the top defenseman or goaltender. The crowd gave a nice standing ovation for Swedes.
#11_THEBEST! 01-05-2009, 11:08 PM Tyler Myers got jobbed
Sadly, it's a tournament award....not Gold medal award.
Myers was great in this game......
Myers was Canada's best defenseman IMO, and Hodgson was the best forward.

I have no idea why they would have booed either of those, especialy the top goaltender. I am happy he played awesome tonight but did they really think Tokarski deserved best goaltender of the tournament, ROTFL!!
Big Phil 01-05-2009, 11:17 PM Ridiculous that Hodgson didn't get MVP. He was clearly better than Tavares in every game I saw.
Very debatable. I loved Hodgson too, but keep in mind Tavares scored some bigger goals for us. The first two of the game against the Czechs, the first two against the Americans and the sealer into the empty net. Got an assist on the tying goal against Russia. Scored the vital goal in the shootout. Led the tournament in points with 15 until Hodgson's empty netter put him to 16 points. You wouldnt have been wrong giving it to either of them, but Tavares truly stepped up in the clutch at times and that can't be ignored

Probably because he kept flopping around like a fish out of water. I like Markstrom but his behaviour was embarrassing tonight.
