Trade proposal: Mtl-Car-NJ

I have notice that some Devils fans are wanting a puck moving d-men and possibly a good young back up goalie and this without having to pay too much.
Montreal is also looking for a puck moving d-men and some grit at the forward position.
Carolina has 4 offensive defensemens and could use some toughness at the back.

There is my proposal

To Carolina

Bouillon
Montreal 4th rd
New Jersey 3rd rd

To Montreal

Joe Corvo
Scott Clemmensen
David Clarkson
Kevin Cormier

To New Jersey

Frantisek Kaberle
Jaroslav Halak
Tom Kostopoulos

Why do you want Kevin Cormier?

Why do you want Kevin Cormier?hahah i know the only reason he is here is because of his brotheras for the deal, yea i would do it. not because of halak, but we dont give up a lot and we get kabrele and kostopolus, along with halak for clarkson

I guess it's a pretty even trade, but I don't see how it would help us much. I don't think Kaberle would be any better than what we already have. It's top pairing d-man or bust for us.

hahaha.

In 3 years Laraque contract is up.
Maybe, maybe Cormier could replace Laraque and Cormier is a product of the QJMHL.

I believe you need to give up a legitimate prospect for Halak.

Classic Devil
12-01-2008, 12:39 AM
We do it for Halak, but we weaken our forwards by replacing Clarkson with Kostopoulos. Kaberle doesn't really do much for us, but he would be nice to have as an upgrade over Mottau and arguably Greene and Salmela. That said, Greene and Salmela are probably his equal at this point and his cap hit could cause all kinds of issues for us at the deadline.

Like the post above. The Devils 2-6 defenseman are quite solid. They need a number one, or at least another number 2. Kaberle would be a downgrade for us all things considered salary/skill.

We need JBo.

the thing is, if we got Kaberle Sutter wouldnt sit mottau, he'd sit salmela (which is what i fear he'll do once Greene comes back). so id much rather have salmela playing and developing than Kaberle, especially when talking about the money situation

I really can´t see Carolina giving up Corvo and Kaberle especially for scrub like Bouillon and some crappy picks. It hasn´t been an accomodity for Canes to have decent offensive D-men in years, but now it´s different with Corvo and Pitkänen around plus Seidenberg and Gleason improving their play.

Just like Devs wouldn´t replace Clarkson with Kostopoulos and downgrade offense, with more reasons the Canes´ wouldn´t do this trade giving up two d-men with almost non-existent return, though their D is right now quite deep and productive. Kaberle wouldn´t do the D any better and he is also injury prone as hell.

Halak is a decent prospect and thereby of course an interesting player, but I wouldn´t necessary take him. I´d stick with the current plan and ride through the storm. Marty will be back eventually and quess what happens to Halak´s long-term progress at that point? He would end up being another Ari Ahonen being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

The only winner in this trade proposal is, surprise surprise, Montreal. Corvo is a proven vet and would bring back that offense that they are lacking since depature of Mark Streit. Clarkson would at least to some degree upgrade the offense over Kostopoulos.

So, no thank you for this one, sir.

Why Clarkson? Everything else I understand. Habs have Georgie L.

I think Halak would be a better backup then Weekes. Then again, its tough to say cause Halak has been playing with Montreal in front of him. Still, the vibe I got from you was that you downgraded him a bit.

What happens when Marty comes back and Halak is riding the pine pony, possibly for the next 4 years?

Carolina would get **** in this deal and we don't really improve much at all either. I'd rather keep Clarkson Clemmer and the pick instead of moving them for a goalie we don't need and a washed up dman who's no better then what we got and Tom Kostopoulos who isn't even as good as Clarkson.

This is true. But like you said, "possibly." After next year, I would bet my house that Marty is not playing 65 games +. And who is to say Marty keeps playing after his current contract? And if he does, will he be playing as much as he is now?

But I see your point, and I do have to agree. Halak has too much potential to not be playing more games. And his growth could be stunted. I just think he is one of the better, under the radar young goalies out there.

This is actually my original point too. Halak wouldn´t probably be too happy with his position. While Price is likely going to be the starter for the Habs for years to come, he won´t probably be getting as much starts as Brodeur will get.

Halak is a good trade bate too. That would probably get the Habs someone to fill in their needs at the blueline.

And yes, Halak would be a certain upgrade over Weekes and Clemmensen, but the situation isn´t suiting him well. Once Marty returns, Halak will play the second violin for years. If there´s a need for an upgrade over the current goalies, I´d rather have someone for a short stint. Think of someone like Dwayne Roloson or Vesa Toskala.

I strongly believe that he will play beyond this contract. His language has been different when that question comes up. A few years ago, he said it was definitely his last contract, then each year since, he, to me anyway, has been more and more open to playing beyond this contract. You have to think that he sees how much better his stats have been as he is getting older, not to mention, he is playing less than a season right now, so that takes away from the wear and tear on his body.
