I'm putting this up for handy reference, since this info seems to be referenced often, particularly during the summer. If anyone can help fill in the blanks, that'd be great. I think I've got everyone covered, though I might have forgotten someone. Let me know if you see any corrections that need to be made. Thanks.

I believe Eero's base salary is $650k if he makes the TBL roster. Don't know what the figure is if he plays in the minors. That was based on info provided by finn.

Found what's up with the weirdness with Konstantinov's contract. Why is he still under contract if he signed a three year rookie contract in 2000?

Seems his contract "slipped" a year because he hadn't played enough pro games according the CBA. He is now in the final year of his original three year deal.

Perrin's terms were finally made public in this article (http://www.sptimes.com/2003/09/09/Lightning/St_Louis_sticks_by_ol.shtml ). It's $350,000 for one year, but we know the club holds an option for a second year. The article wasn't clear if this salary holds whether he plays in the minors or with the TBL.

That's Eric alright. The money isn't that important to him than some other players. He just wants to be a role player in a good team. Nice deal for Lightnings though. 1st or 2nd line center @ 350,000 is a very cheap.

True enough that Wills' NHL salary is 25k more than Cibak, but his contract guarantees him $125k this season. Since his AHL salary is $60k, I'm assuming the other $65k is a bonus. I don't know any other way to factor that in.

Same with Keefe who has a minor league contract for $100k, but is guaranteed at least $175k for 2003-2004.

The number I calculate is never going to exactly match whatever they shelling out for paychecks, there's just too many variables, i.e players moving up and down, down the line injuries/insurance, performance bonuses, etc. It's just a ballpark figure.

I know there's "guarantee money" but you have to wait and see if and how long the player stays in the NHL before you can say what their salary would be. Also if the player, say Sheldon never gets to the NHL at all this season, the additional guaranteed money is paid out of what budget?? I'm not the Lightning accountant so I can't say.

In this instance since Shane and Cibak have comparable salaries I've upped the number 25K. So my salary number could be high, but I also don't have Artukhin's 525K signing bonus figured into my salary number either. Where does that go? Again, I don't know so I've left it out.

Does this make any more sense now? I just don't know any other way to figure it right now.

Since Svitov was sent to Hamilton after tonights Montreal game, the salary number is changed to approx. $33,160,379 with NHL roster at 22 players.

Eight players on the Lightning team right now have contracts for next season (Sydor, Vinny, Richards, Boyle, Lukowich, Grahame, Taylor, Roy) and then Khabi being the ninth with a team option. I don't think that's unusal in the NHL right now with the CBA expiring and teams not knowing if a salary cap will be in place next season. Well, maybe I should clarify, I don't think it wouldn't be unusual for any fiscally responsible teams in the league. The Rag$ of the league just continue to spend without regard for any changes in the future or being fiscally "responsible".

Salaries Stuck Until After Split

I think you are absolutely right on requirements for GM's being fiscally responsible. This CBA is going to get ugly after the latest financial report and head to head between Bettman and Goodenow inidicates mistrust.

I predict, unfortunately, that they will strike for two years resulting in a 12 team league and a clean sweep to get the house back in order. Also Europeans will return to Europe to develop a 'Super League'.

Joe - Since the addition of Sydor and subtracton of Svitov, I revised the salary amount using a 50% portion of Syd's and Alex's salaries to come up with a better number which I feel is closer to the real number the Lightning would have.

Salary is approx. $35,450,379 using the revised numbers.

NHLPA.com has all the contract $$ for players in the NHL but it doesn't tell you length of the contracts.

Padawan
03-27-2004, 01:09 PM
I've been wondering this contract situation and the possible lock-out. If I'm understood right this lock-out is result of NHL and NHLPA of not being able to settle contract issues (mainly money) and the lenght of this is not known. Therefore NHL players can come to play in Europe. Does this mean that ALL the player who has a contract with NHL teams cannot play in NA? I mean, if it is a lock-out then that wouldn't be fair if someone can play (mainly AHL players) and someone can't (NHL players).

Also can teams sign a player if he has option clause in his contract? The reason I'm asking this is because many european teams are interested in NHL player. JYP is interested mainly in Eric Perrin. I believe he has an option clause but if that cannot be used due to the lock-out then he would be free to play in Europe during the Lock-out. There are small rumours that if Eric is to come here, JYP would try to get Martin St. Louis also for the lock-out period.

The organization is not aware that Somervuori has signed a contract, only that he has been offered one. That doesn't meant that the contract has been signed, but only that TBL is not aware of it. Agent is aware that TBL wants to keep Eero in NA next season for his continued development towards NHL readiness.

As far as my opinion is... I haven't been too impressed with the *factual* integrity of the Scandanavian press generally in regards to reports about TBL players. The stories about Perrin being unhappy in Hershey and ready to leave mid-season and return to Finland was completely inaccurate. I wouldn't be surprised if this is more *wishful thinking* being reported as *fact*.

I will end by saying, however, that I don't think it is a lock by any means that Eero will be playing in NA next season. It's a toss-up, as he can possibly be an all-star in the SM-Liiga next season making a healthy salary vs. a two way contract playing most of the season in the AHL for a Stanley Cup contending team with realistically another year or two before cracking the TBL lineup.

That is true. Even though the Jatkoaika staff said that there are two players that might been signed with Jokerit, they said that it would be either Somervuori or Selänne, most likely Somervuori. That's because it will cause a serious headlines if they would say that Teemu is the one. Somervuori is safe choice because he isn't a big "media name" so to speak. It could be some wishful thinking as you said. My first thought was "Somervuori must be stupid if he is going to give up now. Although, the Perrin incident was a misunderstanding by a journalist that is a JYP fan more or less.

I dunno, I also had folks from Finland swear to me he'd cut and run after Jan 20th once the final payment of a signing bonus came in too earlier this season.

I can understand if Eero wants to go back to Finland, but I won't believe it until Jay Feaster tells me its happening.

It's official now... Hats off to you on this one, Padwan! :banghead: Not happy at all about this turn of events. Feaster offered Eero $150k to play AHL (and quite a bit more on the NHL upside of the two-way), but I'm sure he could make a bit more than that in the SM-Liiga.

Second, I though Somervuori would go to Jokerit but instead he went to Kärpät, the last season finnish championship team. So I wasn't 100% correct.

Edit: According to Somervuori himself the reason for his decision was the possible NHL Lockout. Somervuori said that there wouldn't be any motivation to play in the AHL when there's no possibility to get to the NHL team's active roster. He still wants to play in the NHL and he hopes to springboard back to the NHL from Kärpät.

Somervuori said that there wouldn't be any motivation to play in the AHL when there's no possibility to get to the NHL team's active roster. He still wants to play in the NHL and he hopes to springboard back to the NHL from Kärpät.

This is really encouraging information, although I didn't get that sense from the organization. To them, it was all about him chasing the money. Maybe they're just pouting right now because Eero was figuring to be an important cog for them in Springfield.

While I'm disappointed about him not being in Springfield this season, the bright side is that we may not have seen the last of Eero. Thanks, Padawan!

Thanks Padawan, it's good to know that he has some ambition to come back over here, so maybe we will see him again, after all.
