What are we doing with our top prospects ???

Bergfors got sent down yesterday and got replaced by Barry Tallackson. Sheldon Brookbank has been in the lineup for the last 7 or 8 games while Bergfors get's the axe... SHELDON BROOKBANK !!! Petr Vrana also missed some games because Sutter chose to dress Brookbank over a more talented, faster and dynamic player in Vrana. From what i saw from Bergfors, the kid had some good wheels and didn't play that bad for someone that had about 4 minutes per game to prove himself and his linemates didn't really help his cause... ditto for Vrana.

Do you guys think that Tedenby will have the same kind of "route" to crack our lineup ???

I agree that Bergfors should get more minutes. But Sutter doens't trust him defensively and loves his grinders. Beeing sent back to Lowell is better for Bergfors development than getting 4th line time with Rupp and Brookbank.

Vrana had some good shifts in the first games, but hasn't done much since then.

It might be the 19874508742398875878 time we've talked about it.... but i still can't find a logical answer. Is that normal ?!?!?

The way New Jersey develops its finesse prospects is exactly the same as every other "Gold Standard" franchise in the league.

Keep on crying though. ;)

With Lowell winning a few games (please let it continue), player development may become a reality in the franchise again.

At the NHL level players need to show something in their ten or twelve games of 4 to 10 minutes playing time to get more trust and worthwhile/important minutes. We shouldn't underestimate these starter minutes and the development they can catalyse if the talent and mental toughness are there to develop.

However, more easily gained and substantive development can be picked up in a winning AHL franchise with other players with the same goals, similar experience and talent levels.

I think we will see Bergfors play at a higher level after a bit of tempering at the rarefied NHL level. Hopefully the presence of Vasyunov, Eckford, Halischuk (in due course), etc. can move that on, as they think the game at the same level and chase the same goals. If that happens then development of the prospects should move on at pace.

A virtuous circle like that will allow more development than 15 minutes with Gionta and Elias for players that aren't ready for such a step.

I would be so pleased if Lowell can provide a winning atmosphere with under 25 players for a Devils farm team after nearly 10 long years. Maybe I'm being over optimistic; but it looks more likely than it has for ages.

We have "top" prospects? :sarcasm:

I'm assuming it's all relative.

They seem to have no problem giving out defensive prospects a chance. Salmela is getting lots of ice time, and even Jay Leach got more than Bergfors and Vrana.

Leach is hardly a prospect, but we do have holes in the defense with the injuries that arent easy to be replaced. Defense is alot easier to put a rookie in because you usually dont have alot of defenseman to choose from anyway. We have alot of depth at forward.

I just dont know what theyre gonna do with vrana when Holik comes back.
