So I was thinking that having a first class league in Europe that could compete with the NHL is good on a lot of levels (bigger leagues with more prestige (and high salaries) will create more hype make more kids want to play etc.). And I do think it is good for the KHL to admit teams from smaller countries (like Latvia) that don't really have the capacity to support a lot of teams. However, one thing that worries me is that if one or two teams from each of the bigger leagues (like SM-Liga, the DEL, Extraliga, Eliteserien and Nationalliga A) join the KHL as right now many of the bigger teams in those leagues (like Frolunda, Eisbaren, HC Energie and Karpat) have done or are considering doing. Now, joining the KHL will be beneficial for those individual teams for sure. But if some of the biggest and most popular teams start to leave Leagues like those mentioned above, isn't there a significant danger of killing off those leagues completely and badly harming hockey in those countries?
I've heard some people on here worry about that as well and I'm just looking for your thoughts. Is the KHL taking these teams good or bad? will it harm hockey in other countries (besides Russia) in the long run?

Only Karlovy Vary team almost agreed to join the KHL (afaik it won't be Extraliga team. They will create another with same name). Another teams are not ready yet.
you should go to Finnish forum and read thread named "Two KHL games in Helsinki"...It is got a huge discussion on this topic.

I can guarantee you no team in Germany has agreed or is about to agree to join the KHL.
Adler Mannheim wants to play in a league with the Frankfurt Lions and the Kölner Haie and not with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk and Amur Khabarovsk. Those teams are just examples.
