Per transactions on TSN.ca.

Thoughts?

Injury to Giguere or Hiller.

Or....Hiller has been traded to make room for Ryan.

Interestingly enough, LeNeveu wasn't on the Chops opening day roster that was released on 10/7, yet this transaction didn't occur until yesterday.

He'll supposedly be sent right back down.

Then why was he called up?

Pepper, there are no transactions that Hiller was traded.

Some salary cap ballyhoo.

Not sure if I'd like Hiller to get traded even though it means we can recall BR. In that case we might lose other important assets since we'll need to trade for a back up before trading deadline. I have my doubts on LeNeveu...

Oh not this again. Remember how over the course of the 05-06 season, 06-07 season and beginning of the 07-08 season, every time there was a goalie transaction we all thought Bryz was gone for sure(Giguere a lot of the time as well), and almost every time(except the last one, obviously) that was very wrong. I'm not saying Hiller won't be dealt, I'm just saying this kind of thing has happened quite often before, and it usually does not end up in our backup or even our starter getting the boot.

Burke probably reads the boards and does this periodically to get a good laugh out of posters. Can't you just picture him reading this in his office and grinning?

LeNeveu was recalled to add 500k to the salary cap room while Brad Larsen is on IR. After the game tonight, LeNeveu will be returned giving Anaheim about 1 million dollars of cap space. Lets hope Larsen is out the entire year.

LeNeveu was called up so the Ducks could take advantage of the clause allowing them get salary cap relief when a player is placed on LTIR. Based on the Ducks opening day roster with LeNeveu's salary, they are $26K+ under the salary cap. Once Larsen is on LTIR and LeNeveu is sent back to Iowa, the Ducks get salary cap relief by the amount of Larsen's salary ($535,000) less what they are below the roster by ($26,670). So the Ducks will get salary cap relief of $508,330.

Complicated, but it makes sense.

Makes you wonder if he even will physically make the trip or if it's just a "paper" transaction.

it seems to temporarily give us an extra 500K in cap space.

This is the way I understand it

There is a clause which allows a team to go over the salary cap by the amount of the injured player's contract, minus the amount the team is already under the cap. So the Ducks, in an effort to get as close to the cap as possible, bring up an AHL player and add him to the roster opening night. After the game, Larson goes on LTIR allowing us to go 500k over the cap and the AHL player gets sent back to Iowa putting us back below the cap where we were before.

So in essence, we get an extra 500k or so in cap space while Larson is on LTIR.

I guess the real question is "what are we going to do with it?"

Sometime during the season someone is going to get hurt and we will have to call a player up. We need space to be able to do that.

Also, the more space we have the sooner Ryan can rejoin the big team.
