The98thDegree 10-06-2008, 12:49 AM I'll be covering the Trenton Devils for my local paper this year (I have a blog set up if anyone wants the link -- not sure if it's cool to post it here) and I was a little curious as to what you guys thought about Jeff Frazee.
It seems like a foregone conclusion that Scott Clemmensen will be Lowell's starter. So that leaves Jason Smith, Dave Caruso and Frazee to fill in the backup job in Lowell and the two spots in Trenton.
Do you think Frazee would be better served being the backup in the AHL and seeing less playing time at a higher level of play, or do you think he should be the starter in Trenton...where he'd see more playing time, but against a lowel level of competition.
I have my own opinion on it, but I'd be curious to see what Devils fans think about it as well...
Harrison Ford 10-06-2008, 12:53 AM I think he will backup lowell and split time there. Unless he plays very poorly or gets injured and needs a conditioning stint, i dont think he will go to trenton. When he played against the big club in the red vs white games he played very well, so hopefully he can keep it up and stay in lowell.
If you want post the blog link on my wall or whatever in my profile, i would be interested.
Anssi is epic 10-06-2008, 12:59 AM my two cents say he'll start in trenton, he needs some confidence after his horrible 07-08 season, if he performs fine, lowell will roll a Clemmer / Frazee tandem rather than just having frazee high-fiving.

I think Clemmensen is there to "mentor" him, like the Leafs were trying with Pogge last season. I think the ideal situation is for you not to be covering him this season.
He needs to be thrown into the fire a bit and we need to see what he is.
Darius Dangleaitis 10-06-2008, 01:02 AM Start 30-35 games with decent results.
DevilsFan38 10-06-2008, 08:21 AM Like others have said, I think the ideal situation is for him and Clemmer to split the games in Lowell. If Frazee does well maybe he'll start getting the majority of the work there.
I think the only way he ends up in Trenton is if he's struggling big time.

My thoughts exactly.
The ideal situation would be for him to get traded with Bergfors and a draft pick to Atlanta for Pavelec.:sarcasm:

That would be a fantastic trade for Jersey.

Jason Smith got assigned to Trenton today, and I can't imagine they'd have Caruso back up in Lowell, so it would appear as though Frazee will likely be the backup in Lowell.
Honestly, and maybe it's because I was hoping to get a chance to see him play, I would have liked to see Frazee start the year in Trenton. I think he should have earned the opportunity in Lowell, considering he had a pretty rough go of it last year...

That's the way I see it too. I'm still on the fence as to how he will play in the pro's but I hope he gets things back on track...

Curious as to why you would say that. It would seem that Caruso's play earned him the right to play (and earn a salary) in the AHL rather than at Trenton. And after not playing much of the season at U of M, wouldn't it seem Frazee should be starting in the ECHL?
Also, is Felice any kind of prospect or just signed for a camp goalie?
Jason MacIsaac 10-07-2008, 03:05 PM Frazee is going to play in the AHL about 40% of the time, by the end of the year 50% or better. First priority is to develop Frazee, second to put the best goaltender in the net for AHL games.
brule2000 10-08-2008, 08:45 PM Looks like he's starting in Trenton. He didn't make Lowell's opening night roster. As he's struggled with confidence the last year I think starting him at the bottom is probably a good decision.
thefiestygoat 10-08-2008, 09:04 PM Its always nice to see a minor league team get a blog so its easier to follow, and even better its from Mike Ashmore. I followed his blog this past year for the Trenton Thunder and he did a great job. We're lucky to have this guy following Trenton.
The98thDegree 10-09-2008, 09:18 AM Thanks for the kind words about my Thunder coverage, glad you enjoyed it. I'd imagine that the T-Devils stuff is going to be pretty similar...from the layout of the blog to the way I approach it, etc.
I thought that between Caruso and Smith, that Smith would have got the first crack at Lowell...young as he is, I was surprised that he got sent to Trenton to back up Frazee.
Felice was used as an emergency backup at times last season, and is more or less a camp goalie.
Obviously I'm happy that Frazee was sent to Trenton...I'd imagine there might be a little more interest in the team this season. The team opens with three games in three straight days at home starting on the 17th...and I would assume that you'd see Frazee get the first and third games of that stretch.
I'll have more either from media day on the 15th, or from the opener two days later.
