Brodeur losing weight?otto1219 10-04-2008, 02:44 PM any truth to the rumor that brodeur lost a substantial amount of a weight this offseason? Thanks slackerracker 10-04-2008, 02:45 PM in his photo when he showed up to camp it certainly looked like he lost some weight. But appearances can be deceiving? Scottyk9 10-04-2008, 02:47 PM He hired a personal trainer in the off-season and came in 15-20 pounds lighter then he did last yr. Atleast thats whats been said on pre-season telecasts. The last 2 yr's Marty took the first few games to play himself into game shape. He came to camp in shape this yr :) DevilsFan38 10-04-2008, 02:50 PM any truth to the rumor that brodeur lost a substantial amount of a weight this offseason? Thanks Absolutely true. The last 2 yr's Marty took the first few games to play himself into game shape. He came to camp in shape this yr :) Yup, they said this was the first off-season that he's hired a personal trainer and really worked on his conditioning. He said now that he's getting older he has to be a bit more conscious of his conditioning. fortheloveof666 10-04-2008, 02:50 PM any truth to the rumor that brodeur lost a substantial amount of a weight this offseason? Thanks well he has HIV, obviously he's going to lose some weight. :shakehead Das Uber 10-04-2008, 06:01 PM well he has HIV, obviously he's going to lose some weight. :shakehead Yea, it's the AIDS diet. It's the latest craze. otto1219 10-04-2008, 06:35 PM thanks guys, was trying to prove a point to one of my friends about fantasy hockey. Do you think this is going to benefit him because hes quicker or hurt his production value because he wears such small upper body pads. Obviously hes going to be elite either way, just curious how he has looked preseason considering the games havent been on tv. (I know he didnt allow any the other night) he had a SO vs the isles, but its theisles and they only had 16 shots and then he played half the game vs the rangers. i think he wont be slow out of the gate this year like he normally is Harrison Ford 10-04-2008, 06:45 PM well hes been at the same weight for a while, dont fix whats not broken you know? anything can effect play nowadays i suppose. very true, only time will tell i guess. Until i see him play, i wont be able to make any judgement calls, but i think he will do just fine, especially since he has a better team in front of him than last year. otto1219 10-04-2008, 06:52 PM ok gotcha, obviously im a rangers fan with my avatar, and even though i couldnt stand him while he was here, i couldnt help think about avery calling him fat and that having something(?) to do with the recent loss. Should be a great series with you guys this year. Good luck. fortheloveof666 10-04-2008, 08:02 PM ok gotcha, obviously im a rangers fan with my avatar, and even though i couldnt stand him while he was here, i couldnt help think about avery calling him fat and that having something(?) to do with the recent loss. Should be a great series with you guys this year. Good luck. I honestly doubt what Avery said had much to do with it. Was Marty fat last September/October when he showed up? Yes. But by seasons end he was back to his form and that's when Avery said it. I find it relatively hard to believe what that turd said had much of an impact on anything really except what happened on the ice. Realistically speaking, Marty is growing in age and seemingly our entire team really put in the extra effort this off-season to try and come in this year in shape, ready to work, and determined to earn our 4th cup. I know much is made about Marty because of who he is, but he's not the only person on the team that went the extra mile to make sure they were ready to go from the start this year. Also, what's not to suggest that Lou and/or Sutter maybe told Marty he better not come in next season at probably 240 if he's going to keep drinking cans of Sprite during intermissions? I know how they could seem related, don't get me wrong, but it seems a bit improbable to me. That may not have been related to Avery's comments, but it probably was related to that ugly loss to the Rangers. And Marty probably hates the Rangers more than any other player on the team, so he might have had some extra motivation there. Mr Bojanglez 10-04-2008, 08:26 PM If they are related... then the Ranger's brass should hate Avery even more. Just think, Marty was winning it the past couple of years :) guyincognito 10-04-2008, 10:07 PM well hes been at the same weight for a while, dont fix whats not broken you know? anything can effect play nowadays i suppose. That's his listed weight. I talk to people who have seen him during the offseason in Canada and he's easily passing his listed weight and he always looks bloated in September. It's not like he's looking like Ryan Miller. Muttley 03-24-2009, 02:09 PM Just a little update on Brodeur's supposed "overweightness" and his work with a personal trainier: Fatso No More Sean Avery, the Rangers’ top provocateur, referred to Martin Brodeur as Fatso after the Rangers eliminated the Devils in the playoff last spring, They may meet in the playoffs again this year, but there is no way Brodeur can be called Fatso now. Brodeur, though never close to fat, is notably trimmer this season, even with a 16-week layoff for a torn biceps tendon. At 37, he is having one of his finest seasons. “Marty has lost a bit of body fat since last season, maybe 3 percent, but he added about as much lean muscle mass,” said Eric Falstrault, the Montreal-based personal trainer Brodeur has worked with since last summer. “So even though he weighs about the same, it gives him a much leaner shape.” Falstrault said he worked to improve Brodeur’s trunk flexibility and lower-body strength, starting with a daily regimen over the summer and continuing with a specially designed program during the season. He also changed Brodeur’s nutritional habits to reduce his sugar intake. “He was healthy before, eating bananas and watermelon, but I switched him to berries, which causes less of a glycemic spike,” Falstrault said. “Over all, he’s actually eating more now than he used to.” “Marty said he wanted to become more powerful, and his strength has improved incredibly,” said Falstrault, who stays in touch with Brodeur. “This summer, I’m going to work a bit more on his strength and make sure his arm is good.” Is Brodeur, who last week became the winningest goalie in N.H.L. history, in better shape now than he used to be? “Oh yes,” Falstrault said. “He should be fine for the next three years of his contract, for sure.” Brodeur is signed with the Devils through the 2011-12 season. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/22/sports/hockey/22slapshot.html?_r=1&sq=brodeur%20fat&st=cse&adxnnl=1&scp=1&adxnnlx=1237917796-82XbJLUH7JGAOLgNa+VoGQ Darius Dangleaitis 03-24-2009, 02:11 PM Best shape of his life, apparently. Strangely enough though, I have two of them within, I'd say 5 miles of me, and never once have I ever eaten there. I wonder if the food is any good, I mean they're still around so I have to imagine it's at least decent. BenedictGomez 03-24-2009, 05:45 PM Yeah it is. Strangely enough though, I have two of them within, I'd say 5 miles of me, and never once have I ever eaten there. I wonder if the food is any good, I mean they're still around so I have to imagine it's at least decent. Stewarts rules. I grew up near the one in Lebanon. It was better when I was really little, because you'd drive right up to the bar stools and the root beer was served in these giant, German looking beer mugs. It was on tap too. And when Stewarts opens, you know Winter is over. Anyway, the food is cheap greasy spoon, but that's what makes it so fantastic. Vulgar, fattening, cheap, greasy food is on the endangered species list in this country. Even McDonalds and Burger King now serve "healthy alternatives" on the menu. Screw that crap. DevilsFan38 03-24-2009, 06:38 PM I want him to get down to 200. I don't, with the way every team seems to try and knock into him/run him over I think it's good that he's a pretty solid size. If he was Miller's size (or Tjordman's, hah) he'd probably be awfully beaten up from all the contact he takes. Jiri Bicek 03-24-2009, 06:39 PM I don't care what Brodeur number says on the scale.. If he feels good and is in great shape, what's the difference? It's not like he needs to be at a certain number I hate weight numbers relating to fitness level.. They can be very deceiving.. Haha, the one by me still has the whole open front aspect to it for the spring/summer. The windows pull up and then the bar stools are there. I think once it gets nice out I'll go stuff my fat face there and see if it's worthwhile. Plus the soda kicks ass, so at worst I still get that. edit: holy **** I just looked up a menu, you can buy a ****ing GALLON of root beer for 4.95. :yo: Lou's Koolaid 03-24-2009, 10:34 PM Yea, it's the AIDS diet.
