Defenseman Jay Leach was not claimed off waivers by any team before today's noon deadline and remains Devils' property. In fact, Leach will be in the Devils' lineup for tonight's preseason finale against the Philadelphia Flyers at Prudential Center.

Well, other than the two games against the Rangers that were televized, I have no idea how he's playing. I'm a fan of the kid, but we need him to at least put up between 40 & 50pts. He is our 2nd line center, not our 4th line center.

Incidentally, the crowd was supposedly 9,558, for some reason the most heavily attended of all the preseason games. Guess cause it's on a weekend.

He looked solid, got banged around quite a bit - you could tell the Flyers were trying to get to him, at one point he just got knocked clean on his ass away from the play as a whistle blew but he smartly skated away since we were going on a power play.

Overall...he didn't do anything stupid and held his own rather well.


Other standouts for me were Gio and Rolston. Rolston is just the tonic our PP needs.

Gio showed lots of hustle, had a few nice opportunities and a decent hit or two. He's getting back to his feisty ways and obviously that fight last night got him going good.

Is it safe to say that Salmela is a lock for the team?

Anyway, stayed after with my cousin tonight and he got more autographs, but the funniest part was that Brodeur's kids walked out (the new wife had already left, and no one saw Marty go by)...the kids thought Marty had left them there!

Then Marty pulls up the kids get in and they're all laughing!

Some thoughts from someone who was at the game tonight and last night for anyone who is interested:

The obvious major difference tonight was the Power Play produced chances and the Pucks went in the net. We saw a different Rolston against the Flyers, he was able to cannon a couple of shots, one of which Holik deflected in and the other burned a hole through Biron. He looked more decisive and a number of his shots were getting through this evening.

Similar to last night, all the lines contributed and got chances. As a whole, the offense just looks so much more balanced this year with two+ lines capable of generating offense. We also look much faster this year. The Holik-Zubrus-Leblond/Rupp line can really cycle down low and are extremely difficult to move off the puck. So much different from our fourth line last year. Holik played a great game, the first power play goal, he was literally right on top of Biron doing his typical Holik-specialty. Also, Holik was on neither of the face-off draw goals by the Flyers, but was on the ice for the final Flyers PP and he won both of the draws that I saw.

People were asking about Zajac, in my opinion, his line has created some very good scoring opportunities the past two games. He had a great chance this evening to get a goal with a wide open shot, but blew it wide. Travis still isn't physical enough, gets knocked off the puck pretty easily and loses a lot of draws. But after these two games, I am pretty optimistic as the Zajac line has shown enough flashes of their old chemistry.

On D - the two standouts for me were Oduya and White. I thought both played pretty well, Oduya was shooting from everywhere on the ice and White was very physical and made some great plays against the Philadelphia rush in the 3rd period. Salmela was a lot quieter tonight and i didn't really notice him much. I did notice Jay Leach a couple of times make some good plays. Oduya, Martin and Salmela were the guys who got PP time.

Marty looked ok. 1st two flyer goals were pretty good shots, but the third goal was a bad goal from an awful angle. It didn't help that two Devils went to the same guy and let Briere walk out behind the net by himself.

All in all - we looked really good and were the better team in the game. Philly had a their full line-up and it was a great game to watch. If our Power PLay can produce consistently over the course of the season like it did tonight (like we all are hoping/praying), I think we will be significantly more difficult to beat this year and see far fewer shutouts.

I actually am probably going to like the Holik additon better than the Rolston addition for faceoffs only.

well i arrived around 5:40 and sat in my seats in Sec 1......there were maybe 4 other people sitting in their seats, a very odd feeling.

i loved how the Madden line cycled for about 45 seconds near the end of the game. absolutely fantastic shift. i also was cracking up when Madden hit the post prior to his SHG. i started to have visions of him in the lockerroom cursing up a storm and throwing **** everywhere......then he scored. he ruined all my fun.

no more lower-bowl seats for me this season. 211 all the way.

A team employee handed me 2 lower "Gold Circle" tickets. I ended up giving them to a couple that I knew that never sat in the lower bowl at the Rock yet.Yeah im nice.;)
