So the V. Sun is reporting we'll see the 3rd jersey on Nov.15 against T.O.
Sorry If this is old news, but has anyone any ideas what it would be? I haven't gotten a sniff yet.

Icethetics is saying the newest rumour is the vintage sweater with new stick and rink on the front:

Thanks guys. I guess they're keeping it simple.

Is anyone else hoping they go with a Green Base colour/Blue + White trim? If they carry the Green border out as the main colour, it would really make the White "C" stand out.

I still think that if you updated the look of that jersey, it would easily be our best option...

Ohhh God Nooooooooo! That has to have been the worst logo colour scheme they have ever worn. I hate that downhill skate even more than the rabid free willy logo.

I love it, simply because it's black.

I would love to see them use the black Skate jerseys...but it will never happen. They seem to shun that part of their legacy, even though they went to two SCFs in them...

I give that a big thumbs down. I predict they're going to sell like 4-5 of em. Everyone that wants a vintage probably already has one. Everyone that has the current home isn't going to spend another $180 to buy the SAME jersey...again.

Isn't the whole point of the 3rd to offer an alternate look so they can rake in the dollars? In principle this 'new' third jersey is an instant fail.

but its nothing new. We used our vintage look since 04. We've used our vintage look for the new RBK jerseys and once again were using vintage look for our alternate jersey. Way ta go good marketing.

I think this 3rd jersey will eventually replace the current home jersey in about 2 years. The current jersey has had many criticisms, so it could be gone by 2010.

The change of home jerseys happened in 06-07, and I see it occurring again. By around 2010, I predict that they will get a new third jersey.

What does that have to do with marketing the same jersey under the pretence of a 'new' jersey? If your new third jersey is the same as your current home jersey, which also happens to be identicle to the 'old' third jersey which in turn is the re issuing of the original franchise jersey... I think I see a pattern.

Again, the idea of a third jersey is to offer an alternate look to pry some more money out our pockets. Question: will the throw back jersey do that in any way? I'd say no. If anything it'll take sales away from the current home jersey instead of complimenting sales.

Shy.

Considering how well the Canucks RBK jerseys have sold, I'm betting you would see a lot of those criticizing the jerseys are some of the same people who have one in their closets.

HOWEVER, there are some people out there who held off buying the new jerseys because of the addition of the city name to the logo (that's right, 'VANCOUVER' is not a wordmark, it's actually part of the logo). These people will buy up the alternates if they are what they are said to be.

There's always a risk on the internet. It may be a slim-to-none risk depending on how it gets there, but it's still a risk.

What reward is there for somebody violating a non-disclosure agreement? Honestly, does it really make some people feel that special by divulging confidential information?

It doesn't matter what you think about non-disclosure agreements, but they do mean loss of job if you blab and it gets traced back to you. I know there were more than a few people working with connections to Reebok CCM who lost their jobs last summer due to leaking information about the new Edge jerseys to whom they thought were trustworthy people to them.

This.
I would so love it if their 3rd jersey was dominantly green, with blue and white accents - it would stick out, and continue the tradtion of doing something different with their 3rd jersey (see the '96 and '01 versions).

Ohhkayyy. Intervention time.

Are you telling me that having an alternate jersey that is very similar to ones previous is going to make LESS money than not having that jersey at all? Do you HONESTLY think they will sell 4-5 jersey's? If you do it's time for some "head out of the gutter" time. The Fan base of this team is growing. Fans who don't have a jersey now really would have 3 choices (I don't see a new fan of the team wanting a throw back). However, if the Canucks wear the 3rd jersey often it will sell just as well as any other 3rd jersey in the past.

Yes, I've used a super duper quantatative formula invented by alien ninja's that explicitly points to them selling 4-5 jerseys...and I HONESTLY believe in alien ninja's.

As for your first question; not that the team would make less money without having the proposed jersey at all, but make less money than if the third jersey was even remotely different from the current design and marketed to complement the current jersey sales and not place the third in direct competition.

Person #1 dosn't have a jersey yet. He has three choices of nearly identicle jerseys. He buys one. What are the chances he plops down another 120-180 bucks for one of the others aswell, even down the road? Now if that same person has a choice of a third jersey that has a different look would one not figure the chances of a second purchase to have greatly increased? (Essentially the marketing stratagy of the third jersey)

Person #2 already has a jersey. What are the chances he wants to throw down another 120-180 to buy practicaly the same jersey again? How about a different jersey?

My point is that there's a reason why a company like Ford dosn't look at the sucess of the Mustang and trys to pop out a whole bunch of Mustang like clones because they don't want to deminish the sucess of the original. It's the same reason that Chevy invents the Camaro and places it in the same catagory trying to steal sales away from Ford. Two nearly identicle jerseys are going to canabalise sales from each other instead of complimenting the sales of the regular jersey. Thus defeating the purpose of the third jersey.

Canucks jerseys, the old vintage and the current have been popular for so long that the market is approaching saturation. Everybody that wants one has one. At the point of saturation, further growth can only be achieved through product improvements (changing the jersey) or a rise in overall consumer demand (your growing of the fanbase). It's marketing 101.
