Scottyk9 10-01-2008, 12:46 AM If the team was to dissolve. Not relocate just leave all together.
Who would you become a fan of.
I would probably find another team. Granted i wouldnt be nearly as dedicated.
Tor,Car, Edm. one of those would probably be the team i'd go with.
Darius Dangleaitis 10-01-2008, 12:48 AM Wow would this ever suck...
I'd say Blackhawks. They're an exciting, up-and-coming team so...
ALine9900 10-01-2008, 12:51 AM Lightning or Leafs.
Classic Devil 10-01-2008, 12:53 AM Chicago for sure.
Darius Dangleaitis 10-01-2008, 12:54 AM Yeah or the Lightning, I have alot of family in Tampa.
Scoot 10-01-2008, 12:55 AM Dallas-Vancouver.
guyincognito 10-01-2008, 12:59 AM none
Darius Dangleaitis 10-01-2008, 01:03 AM The other day my friend and I were discussing the scenario of the Devils never coming to New Jersey, and who we would root for. I said I'd probably like the Islanders, seeing as my dad was a huge fan before the Devils came to town.
Classic Devil 10-01-2008, 01:06 AM The other day my friend and I were discussing the scenario of the Devils never coming to New Jersey, and who we would root for. I said I'd probably like the Islanders, seeing as my dad was a huge fan before the Devils came to town.
I see more Blackhawks games in a year in person than Devils games, given my current place of residence, so it would be a relatively easy transition to make... but I'd never love the Blackhawks like I love the Devils... not for a few decades.
Richer's Ghost 10-01-2008, 01:06 AM Rangers.
JUST KIDDING!
Darius Dangleaitis 10-01-2008, 01:07 AM I see more Blackhawks games in a year in person than Devils games, given my current place of residence. So it would be a relatively easy transition to make, but I'd never love the Blackhawks like I love the Devils... not for a few decades.
Yeah, it would definitely be awkward. We know the Devils top to bottom, and it would take a while to get acclimated to another team to the extent that we are with the Devils.
Das Uber 10-01-2008, 01:12 AM Murder-suicide.
sattar18 10-01-2008, 01:40 AM none
+1, but would still watch
fortheloveof666 10-01-2008, 01:47 AM Whalers.
åboriginal 10-01-2008, 02:03 AM prolly just watch more of the isles since i already follow them anyways. id prolly consider the bruins, blackhawks and canucks though.
TheDevilMadeMe 10-01-2008, 02:14 AM Probably the Capitals. I lived in DC for 3 years - when they were horrible - they made the playoffs finally the year after I left. Plus, Ovechkin is really easy to root for.
My 2nd favorite team has traditionally been Montreal, due to all the Devils/Habs connections (Lemaire, Robinson, Lemieux, Richer, Brodeur), but rooting for them as my #1 team just seems... weird.
Devils9789 10-01-2008, 02:34 AM Probably the isles, my dad's a big fan.
cmccallum 10-01-2008, 02:47 AM Wow surprised no one went with the Caps!. Such a fun team to watch.
guyincognito 10-01-2008, 03:07 AM +1, but would still watch
Yeah, I wouldn't stop watching, but if they just stopped existing (instead of leaving, where you could still follow them until at least they bared no resemblance to the team you used to follow), why even bother picking up another team, it's like a second wife and that crap isn't going to work out, you'll either still be pining for the first one, or realize the second one sucks and be looking for a third.
I don't think I could kid myself into pretending to be a fan of another team. I'd just get CI, sit back and watch... would definately be different, no stress.
This is "a lifelong marriage" and if your companion passes away, anything else will be nothing but one night stands.
blink 10-01-2008, 07:33 AM I'd probably take Edmonton or Buffalo...
I live in Leafs territory so I can't stand them....I also despise Ottawa and Montreal..
Edmonton is currently my fav Canadian team so I'd probably go with them...but would consider Buffalo for the simple fact that it would be easy to see a few games per year...
Jason MacIsaac 10-01-2008, 07:57 AM None, I'd probably be just a fan of the game and certain players.
Devilswede 10-01-2008, 08:24 AM None, I'd probably be just a fan of the game and certain players.
...+1
frehley 10-01-2008, 08:27 AM Of course there would be a few teams I'd root for more than others, but I wouldn't become a big fan of any other team.
Harrison Ford 10-01-2008, 08:45 AM first and formost i would throw up all over my keyboard.
then i would probably become a blackhawks fan.
Voice of Reason 10-01-2008, 08:48 AM The Nets
Njdevilsfireonice30 10-01-2008, 08:54 AM I really don't know... it would take a long time to stop grieving the loss of NJ... I don't know if I could "pick" another team, but I'd watch a lot of Caps games...
ILikeItVeryMuch 10-01-2008, 08:57 AM I refuse
cj225 10-01-2008, 09:00 AM I'd never watch hockey if they left...
Big#D 10-01-2008, 09:10 AM I was a fan before they came to New Jersey. I would be a fan after they left New Jersey. I'm a fan of the team regardless of its location.
Mr Bojanglez 10-01-2008, 09:54 AM Probably the Isles. I already like them as it is. In terms of Non-Devil teams that I like, they aren't near the top. But if the Devils were gone, I'd need to go see a team live. I hate everything out of Philadelphia, and I will never root for the Rangers.
So the Isles, maybe Boston or the Caps.
Brooklyndevil 10-01-2008, 10:01 AM Well, if they were to leave in the future, I would hope it's to Brooklyn, just to irk the Ranger fans even more. :naughty:
The Mad Crapper 10-01-2008, 10:32 AM Tough question, as I'm only truly passionate about this NJ Devils team.
If they were to dissolved all together, I would end up watching & supporting the Blues or which ever team obtained the majority of my favorite players. Upon their retiring, if the are no other players or teams of interest to me, I would find something else to do to fill my time. This is the one team that I truly revolve my life's schedule around when they're televised.
Great question for the board! Thanks for posting it. It does make you think about something we take for granted. I never thought about it till now & it makes you think about the fans of the Hartford & Quebec teams & what they had to endure.
CMac17 10-01-2008, 10:39 AM The Blues. Always liked them, for some reason. They seem like the easiest Western Conference team to identify with, being so used to watching the Devils' style of play. Although when I established this opinion, The Wild weren't around...
...Your posed question makes it even harder to endure the wait for this season by the way!!
ADD-devil950003 10-01-2008, 10:42 AM Horrible horrible question, it hurts me to even think of a world without my beloved devils. i seriously would be so pissed that i wouldnt be able to root for any other team for probably the rest of my life. I sleep eat and breath devils hockey, dont even make me hypothetically think about them being non-existent!
Mr.Krinkle 10-01-2008, 10:42 AM I'd have no choice but to default to my second favorite team:
Anyone playing the Rangers.
RMBoner Stabone 10-01-2008, 11:27 AM HC Davos and my Alma Mater HS and College teams. Other than that, I would done with the NHL as a fan. I would become the equivalent of a UN Blue Helmet solider, I will watch from afar and not show any emotion to the game.
Other than that, here's to watching the Devils in NJ and being around for the 50 year commeration when they wheel out all of the greats still alive.
Clarkson Falls Down 10-01-2008, 11:30 AM Probably none. But maybe Islanders.
rwhite 10-01-2008, 12:03 PM This is tough because it's hard to really become a fan of another team once you've been a fan for so long of the Devils.
I would probably have to cheer for a Western Conference team only because I hate all the East teams (you kind of have to if your team is in the East). So if that's the case, I would be a fan of the San Jose Sharks. It is difficult to be a fan of the West teams when you live on the East coast, so worst case scenerio (being that the Devils fold), and I had to choose a team in the East I would probably cheer for Washington - the team I dislike the least in our conference.
MoonDragn 10-01-2008, 12:27 PM If they had never come to NJ I probably would have stayed a Ranger fan.
However, if they ever left NJ I'd stay a Devil's fan since I don't live in NJ anymore anyway.
I am starting to like the Caps more and more, since I'm in Maryland and they play only 2 stops from where I work.
ctynan44 10-01-2008, 12:34 PM I'd probably root for the Sabres since the first game I ever went to was Buffalo at Hartford.....and since the Failers are now the Canes I can't stand them.........
dougiebrown 10-01-2008, 02:24 PM I'd go back to being an Islanders fan.
The Cuban 10-01-2008, 02:59 PM I'd probably continue being a Devils fan since I don't live in New Jersey. Though I would still be disappointed. I guess I have a thing for the state of New Jersey, it's definitely my favorite US state.:)
fluffernutter mf 10-01-2008, 04:33 PM Either the Lightning, Stars, Blackhawks or
None, I'd probably be just a fan of the game and certain players.
ziggyluc 10-01-2008, 04:37 PM Murder-suicide.
I would like to think I'd cheer for the Oilers then maybe the Caps.
Although if this situation actually happened I would probably cheer for the Islanders or even the Rangers after 5 or so years (although that would be weird - really weird).
9302njd 10-01-2008, 06:14 PM No one, although the Rangers will always suck.
Jiri Bicek 10-01-2008, 07:00 PM Tough one..
I'll prob follow Caps.. I love watching Green and Ovy and they're relatively close to Jersey
Colin Whites Eye 10-01-2008, 07:29 PM Calgary for sure. Iginla is my favorite non Devil and i love THE DION
Chicago would be #2
Cowbell232 10-01-2008, 07:32 PM Pittsburgh. My mom's from there, and my grandparents still live there so I could stay there to catch some games. I'm thinking of doing that this year anyways...
Minnesota, Buffalo and Dallas have always been my alternate teams. This would really suck by the way, it would take quite a while to get over something like this. Life would kinda be pointless without the Devils.:)
njdevscup30 10-01-2008, 08:03 PM Probably the Bruins, I've actually been rooting for them when they don't play the Devils since I've been up in Boston for college. (Though I absolutely HATE every other Boston team..)
hargsy 10-01-2008, 08:10 PM If the team was to dissolve. Not relocate just leave all together.
Who would you become a fan of.
I would probably find another team. Granted i wouldnt be nearly as dedicated.
Tor,Car, Edm. one of those would probably be the team i'd go with.
Whichever team Lou runs, maybe he would take over on the Island and bring back the real Islanders again, then the hatred for the Rags would be just as intense !!
hargsy 10-01-2008, 08:12 PM Rangers.
JUST KIDDING!
You cant see the "just kidding"
DirtyJerseyDubz 10-01-2008, 08:16 PM probably Minnesota, Boston, or Calgary.
Tao Jones 10-01-2008, 08:56 PM If I stay in Arizona, I would go with the Coyotes, despite the Gretzky factor. If I move to California I would go for the Sharks over the Ducks and Kings. The Wild would be my next pick until Lemaire leaves Minnesota.
Richer's Ghost 10-01-2008, 09:41 PM You cant see the "just kidding"
That was the point. :speechles
devilzrule27 10-01-2008, 09:44 PM I've been a fan of columbus since they were formed so i'd probably switch to them. I may also follow the Bolts since i have a home down there which i go to every winter.
Harrison Ford 10-01-2008, 09:48 PM I've been a fan of columbus since they were formed so i'd probably switch to them. I may also follow the Bolts since i have a home down there which i go to every winter.
Lucky.
devilzrule27 10-01-2008, 10:00 PM Lucky.
I actually hate it down there. I like the cold weather. It must be the Canadian blood in me or something but i jsut don't handle heat and humidity well. haha.
The only reason i go down there now is because i got family in the area that and i like to check out spring training before coming back up north.
Muttley 10-01-2008, 10:18 PM If they were to dissolved all together, I would end up watching & supporting the Blues or which ever team obtained the majority of my favorite players.
The Blues. Always liked them, for some reason. They seem like the easiest Western Conference team to identify with, being so used to watching the Devils' style of play.
In my opinion, they have the best logo, color scheme and team name in all of North American pro sports. There's something about a navy blue & gold color scheme that does it for me. It was that trumpet on the shoulder patch that really did it for me. It was awesome, although I think they have since dropped it with the unveling of their new unis.
I also reallly like the way they honor their city by naming the team after a famous song that defines the city of St. Louis. This is the same crafty rationale that was used for the the naming of the New Jersey Devils, which is in stark contrast to a silly Texas millionare who for some odd reason 82 years ago, decided to name his NYC based hockey franchise after the Texas State Police.

Also if there prospects become what they are supposed to, that team will be nasty.
I think i would like them too if the Devils got moved.
DevzFan15 10-02-2008, 12:36 AM If the Devils just dissolved it would probally take me a while before I could actually get back into hockey. But if I had to choose another team I would say the Caps just for Ovy.

That too; those uni's (minus one COLOSSAL mistake involving a red stripe) have always been awesome. Also Marty Reasoner (I know, laugh at me) was a big reason I paid more attention to them a while back.
LOL at the comment about the NYC based hockey franchise; if I cared about basketball I'd probably draw some sort of parallel to the fact that the NBA didn't immediately force a certain Utah based team to be renamed the "Mormons" or "Salty Lake People"** or something like that, while simultaneously handing the New Orleans team the name it should have been given.
** - I totally have nothing against the people in the great state of Utah. Thank you.
njdevil22 10-02-2008, 01:24 PM Dallas. Both my mom and dad were born and raised in Arlington, and i usually hope they do well during the season. We are all big Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fans as well.
Hollywood163 10-02-2008, 03:12 PM Once I took my head out of the oven
I'd go with women's gymnastics
Darius Dangleaitis 10-02-2008, 04:06 PM Now that I think of it, Habs.
Anssi is epic 10-02-2008, 04:46 PM I'd go with chicago, but due to their playing times, it'd be impossible for me to watch any games, so I'll go with Atlanta, like my best friend.
Brodeur2007 10-02-2008, 04:51 PM I'd cry.
I think I'll follow Lowell.
JWomp 10-02-2008, 05:40 PM Whatever team Marty went to!
daveskirtun 10-02-2008, 08:25 PM Flyers for sure.
I'd say Rangers but I would be so ashamed for the rest of my life.
