Interesting. If that happened, what would you have thought?

with all the rumours of Burke going to Toronto....I don NOT think the Ducks can trade at all with Toronto.....not until next year when Burke is were is going to be...

If the pick wasn't protected or if one of those prospects rhymed with zen, then I might consider it. I doubt they were ever really that close though. Ryan is Burke's 1st pick here, do you really think he'd give him up? His ego is way too big to do that.

Too much, Toronto fans say? Well consider that Ryan was the SECOND overall. Surely that's worth top-5 protection?

The trade doesn't make much sense though. What the hell would Toronto do with another Dman, much less another 5+ million defenseman? It's not like they'd have any easier time trading Schneider away. Just look at how their last big Dman trade went.

Oh, and gird yourself for endless "Ryan for Poni + Stajan!!!1one!" proposals now.

I'm sure Burke would need ownership to approve such a deal. Unfortunately, Henry Samuelis is a little bit preoccuppied staying out of jail to worry about the Ducks right now. There were plenty of teams negotiating with Burke and plenty of teams asking for Bobby Ryan. The only difference is Toronto gets all the headline.

I would've been pretty unhappy with that trade, especially with toronto. Also, it would've sucked for Schneider, being traded to a team that only wanted to trade him.

I think its a pretty clear indication that Burke is acting in the best interest of the team and doesn't have 1 foot out the door.

My thought exactly. I would do it for that prospect.

Anyway, if it wasn't that prospect in return, wouldn't the league protect the Ducks because of rumors of Burke leaving to Toronto next year? They certainty wouldn't let Burke go to Toronto after he made this type of deal would they?

No because basically we sacrifice two assets, one of which we have cultivated and is ready to help us now for no shot at a significant reward.

That was a lame offer IMO.
Maybe Plan Z?

Can't blame Toronto for trying. Although when I first saw the Leafs dangling a first round pick, I was reminded of when they traded their 1991 first rounder pick in 1989 for Tom Kurvers. The '91 first rounder ended up being 3rd overall and the Devils got Scott Niedermayer.

But yeah, definitely think the Atlanta offer was the lesser of two evils.

Why is this even news? There were a bunch of teams gunning for Ryan. It's not surprising...right?

That depends. Are you going to make a strong offer of $20 for them?

He can only get a conditional Lamborghini for that price... meaning one that can't travel more than 80,000 miles.

Not that it matters, but wouldn't it be the other way? It would be a conditional 20 dollars. And if it turns out that it's actually worth 20 dollars in a year (no inflation or whatever would be expected in this economy), it gets bumped down to 20 pesos?
