Things you "Want" from specific players this year

I'll start

I want....Ryan Getzlaf to shoot the puck more, if he takes up more of a shooting mentality he will score 90-100 points this year. He'd be alot like Eric Lindros in his prime and that'd make him a hart candidate.

Pahlsson line to make more of an effort to create offense

Beauchemin to keep it simple, and hit the net

Pronger to shave, and quickly

Good topic RG, I dig.

Let's see. Aside from wanting the guys who deliver to keep delivering (Jiggy, Getzy, Prongs, Teemu, Scotty, Sammy, Marchy etc.) I'll pick Bobby Ryan. I want him to play like he has in the preseason. The kid has the tools and now the physique to be a dominant player. He'll be streaky, all rookies that aren't named Sydney or Alex are, but he just needs to stick with it.

If Frankie sticks around I want to hit the net or never shoot the puck again. It drove me bananas last year how frequently he missed the net.

And I'll second Staic's sentiments about Prongs. Dude is looking like Paul Bunyan's psycho little brother. The guy couldn't get on board and beard-up during the Cup run but decides to get all burly during camp? That beard makes his giraffe neck look three times longer.

We have a ****-load of players who are on their contract year and are looking to 'make bank'. Mr. B is going to have a great year. A lot of ducks are going to have career type years.

I think Mr. B needs a role on the team. People are being harsh on him for last year. Last year sucked for a lot of people who were expected to play 'specific' roles last year. I think he was trying to step up to a category that he shouldn't be in (yet?).

I'd like to see Hiller have a few more starts early on. There was a stretch last season when he was awesome. I'd like have goaltender 1a and 1b if possible. Sorry Jiggy.

I'd also like to see a reliable fourth line so that is directed at who is in that position. I hate those "aw crap don't put them on the ice you know there just gonna get icing calls" moments total buzz kill after we just score a goal.

What Static said about the Pahlsson line. I agreed. OK good Rob Niedermayer you just humiliated Patrick Marleau what are you gonna do with the puck?

If the Pahlsson line could put up 40 goals (combined) a year, that would be insane. The amount of denied goal scoring added to ANY goal scoring would be really strong. I know the Pahlsson line gets a lot of time on ice...

What I want: I want our second line to to settle into a solid scoring threat. We have a great defense and some great forwards who can handle their time on ice. This means we DON'T need to be throwing the Pahlsson line on the ice as much as last year. If our second line settles with (possibly) Kunitz, Morrison, Selanne, and they are productive and defensively responsible... then our Pahlsson line has a lot more options with their deployment.

I want to see Frankie play a simpler game and be better.

I want to see the 3rd line try on offense. There is another 1/3 of the ice. You should be more effective with the rule changes. (wait... I sound like static)

I want Moen to be a little better on offense. This goes with the last one, but I think he can knock in more garbage goals like he did in the playoffs. Now do it in the regular season.

I want Questionable Pick to prove me wrong.

I want Morrison to prove that he's not injured and that he can mesh with Selanne.

I want Perry to be able to screen the goalie and tip shots. Although that probably means he needs to get stronger in a matter of days. We don't really have a good screen for the PP now that Penner is gone. Getzlaf is the playmaker, Selanne is PP domination, so that leaves Perry to be our screen (unless he's moved to PP2). I also want him to work on shootouts and be our shootout guy.

I want Pronger to be mindful of the new rules. And to be nastier (only 74 hits), while not getting as many stupid holding/hooking penalties.

I want Getzlaf to work on faceoffs and not whine so much to the refs. You're going to be the captain, be more of a Niedermayer and less of a Pronger. Oh, and don't do so many fancy shootout moves only to lose the puck and do nothing.

I want our PK to be better. Beauchemin, Rob, and Pahlsson weren't so good last season.

More to do with Burke and not the players, but I want the logjam at 4th line to be cleared up. And for space to be made to work in a rookie at D so we'll have some continuity for next season.

Ducks

I want Bobby Ryan to play the whole season on the first line with Getzlaf and Perry and have a big year.

I want the Kunitz/Morrison/Selanne line to put up first line points even though they are the second line.

I want the checking line to start scoring.

I want Marchant traded so we can get under the cap, play Bobby Ryan all season and have Ryan Carter fill 4th line duties.

and last but not least, I want more HD Ducks games.

But that's not my name for him, that's Lowe's (and mmbt's) name. And I'm just calling him that in hopes that he'll succeed and it'll piss off Lowe fans.

Pronger: More elbows and definitely more scowling. It isn't a hockey season unless at least five fanbases are pissed off at you for some reason or other.

Scotty: A sizeable "crazy grandpa" beard come June.

Beauch: Remember when you were awesome? Find that again.

B-Mo: 50 points would be awesome. 40? How about 30? Please don't be done.

Marchant: Iowa isn't that bad. Try the home fries. Have you seen the state capital in Des Moines? It's amazing. Actually, I'm not kidding about that. Have a look:

That's the Iowa state capital. In DES MOISNES. Crazy!

Ryan: Remind us why you were the #2 pick.

Montador: .... Try not to suck? I've got nothing.

Parros: More. Stache!

Sami: EXTENSION!

I know it just bugs is all, not from you necessarily but the general pessimism towards Bobby based on his draft position. I mean he'll never shed being "the guy picked after Crosby" but I'd like for him to shed the stigma that other players who may be better then him were picked after him. Basically we both want him to succeed. :)

OT, but I never understood the "drafted after Crosby" thing.

Why does that mean anything positive or negative? How is it even relevant?

1) He was drafted AFTER Crosby, it's not like the Ducks blew the pick by passing on Crosby. Although they did pass on Kopitar, but that's a different thread.
2) Just because he's the next drafted player doesn't mean he should be close to the guy who went before him. There's often tiers and big dropoffs. Just look a year earlier. Do people call Cam Barker "the guy picked after Ovechkin/Malkin?"

So why does the media always refer to him as the "guy picked after Crosby?" It isn't relevant, and it doesn't provide any useful info.

I know, who cares? Every kid taken that July was taken after Crosby big deal. As far as I'm concerned that wasn't the Sydney Crosby draft at all. The week before was the Crosby lottery but that week was the draft that had little to do with choosing where Crosby went.

I want:

Giguere and Pahlsson to be healthy. If they are, they'll be bomb.

I want Kunitz to hit and score like he did two years ago.

I want Getzlaf to shoot more.

I want Beauchemin to focus on good D.

Other than that, everyone should be fine.

Beauchemin - HIT SOMEBODAY DAMMIT. I watched some playoff games from the cup run, and geez like every 3rd shift he was atleast TRYING to lay some open ice hits, something that I feel was missing from his game last season.

Getzlaf/Ryan - SHOOT!!! It will open the pass actuallY!

Perry - Try to agitate w/out getting a penalty ya?

Pronger - Just relax big fella.

Giggy - Play 65 games TOPS. We need to ride you in the post season.

Morisson - Atleast play hard if you are gonna suck.

GOD line - I don't even care if you score, just play physical and keep doing what you're doing.

4th line - Don't blow games for us. When you're on the ice play physical and defensively responsible.

Huskins - It seems you're getting a shot to play big minutes...make BB proud.

5th/6th dmen - you can't possibly be worse than Dipenta/Huskins were 2 years ago can you?

TEAM: Be like the cup run, if we are getting beat bad, then beat the hell out of them. Install fear into every team, be physical, I want every team to hate playing against us.

.If Frankie sticks around I want to hit the net or never shoot the puck again. It drove me bananas last year how frequently he missed the net.

Beauchamin and Schneider purposely drove the puck off the boards a lot on purpose in hopes that it would rebound into the crease. I'm sure he missed at times when he was trying to score also, but I think a lot of the time he was trying to set up a rebound play.

Thank god I'm not the only one who feels like this. He doesn't even look like Pronger with that beard and, as TheJoeMan pointed out, the dude looks friggin creepy.

My "want":

The "Ryan-Perry-Getzlaf" Line: Shoot more and shoot often, keep things simple.
The Kunitz-Morrison-Selanne Line: Skate like the wind.
The Niedermayer-Pahlsson-Moen Line: Just keep doing what you do best, any extra offense is always welcomed.
The "Whoever's left" Line: Grind, grind!

Defense:
Niedermayer-Beauchemin: For Beauch, keep things simple, don't pinch in. I hope you've been doing a lot of target practice this offseason.
Montador-Pronger: Montador to be defensively responsible, Pronger to relax and just play his game.
Huskins-Whoever: Huskins to provide leadership to the new kid.

Giguere: Drink lots of liquid before the game.
Hiller: Be ready to step in when needed, no nachos for you!

Not the case at all. Frankie shot towards the net a LOT and missed the net a LOT. I can't tell you how many times I heard "Beauchemin shoots.... wide" too many to count. Frankie forgot how to hit the net last year.
