I'm hoping this line does special things. I can see elias having a career type year. Now we truly have 2 lines that can score plus 2 great defensive lines that can also chip in a few goals. Looking forward to the season.

Elias 34 goals
Rolston 31 goals
Gionta 28 goals

Not sure if this deserves its own thread. I am very optimistic about the Devils this year. I'd switch Gio and Rolston, though. Rolston goal totals will likely dip a little. I think Gio puts up 30+ goals this year...it being a contract year and Rolston dishing out the garbage from the point

Why do you call them the Dunlop line?

Their initials spell out ERG or the SI unit of power. Hopefully they will be a unit of power in themselves.

Dunno, Dunlop just sounds like a pair of very badly faded jeans made out of potato sacks.

Anyway, I'm hoping for 30, 25 and 30 goals from each of those guys respectively.

This might be worse than the GElli-ROLl idea... No way they're called the Dunlop line after Paul just died... that would be poor taste at best.

REGulators or bust. Cmon - they're all sharpshooters too... and it ties into Blaze of Glory from the movie - A local band.

Do Not deny the Jovi...

Not only is it in bad taste, it makes no sense.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd like for the regular season to start for the Devils fanbase to be conjuring up these ideas of line idea names when the season hasn't started yet.

Of course, if Elias gets off to a slow start, all the negative neds on this board will be coming on saying, "Omggg, Elias gets paid too much - 6 million is a jokee, get him outtta here!"

If you honestly think a media outlet such as MSG or WFAN will even approach the sure fire letter writing campaign that would ensue from calling it that, then you don't even realize how risk averse the world is in this time of political correctness.

Why all the hokey names anyway?
To be honest there hasn't been one cool sounding one yet. Hate to be the negative Nancy, but...

I think you're right. What is the purpose of giving names to lines, especially when these line formats are not set in stone yet. Let's wait for some official games to see how our lines are doing.

Gionta 28 goalsI like it a lot. You arrived at it in cleaver way.

Dunlop is also a famous tire manufacturer. I believe it was Paul Newman's love of auto racing that was the catalyst for the Slap Shot character being named "Dunlop." But that brand of tire is used on, or at least historically was used on, many race cars.

It is a great homage to the late Paul Newman, the great hockey film Slap Shot and it conjures up images of speed and performance.

As for the goal predictions, I would be very happy with 90 or so from that line. That would likely bump the Devils up into the middle of the NHL pack in scoring. Combined with continued success defensively, that should mean that the Devils will win several more games than they did last season.
