I think he's definitely good enough to play on the second line and he's certainly much better then a fourth liner. I think its more about him fitting in with the players we have on the second line. I don't think he plays well with Parise and fits in much better with Holik. We're loaded with good players up front so he gets pushed aside. Personally I'm excited we can role 4 lines that will be able to produce points.

thoughts on period 1...

first, before we all go busting holes in our pants, this is the rangers' 6th game in 8 days, they're tired and they look it. they look more bad than we do good. that said:

as long as zubrus and holik stay together, we are going to have the most feared 4th line in the league. beastly would be the word i'd use to describe them.

the fedorov vrana zharkov line has been pretty invisible, and i'm gonna go ahead and attribute at least some of that to bergfors' absence. vrana and zharkov have been skating well, but i've seen exactly nothing from feds. hopefully they can pick it up some.

elias rolston and gio have looked pretty good but still don't look like they're all on the same page, best evidenced by elias' turnover.

PP was godawful. PK looked great mostly because the rangers' PP also looked awful.

brookbank better not make the team this year. he has been awful, twice getting knocked over by smaller forwards behind the net (first wasn't so much his fault).

salmela looks a lot more composed than he did in his first game, but is still taking the body, and is definitely chomping at the bit to get involved in the offense, trying to get involved in the rush. he's gonna make the team gentlemen.

apart from knocking down an off-balance zherdev, didn't see much from corrente. eckford likewise didn't do anything special.

weekes looks solid. hopefully he can earn 10-15 starts this year to give marty some more rest.

also, as has been noted, the announcing is ridiculous to the point of being distracting. there were more shared opinions in last night's debate. i can't help but imagine barbs flying back and forth during commercial breaks. That is true, I thought he played well with them when he did briefly last year. Never understood why Sutter broke up that line, to be honest.

And, even though he's on the fourth line, I don't think this is going to be a typical four minutes per night fourth line. I think they'll play closer to eight or nine.

I am certainly not saying that I think he should be sent down to Lowell. I think that 3rd Line RW would be a better spot for him unless Clarkson really raises his game.



He also has shown that he can raise his game come playoff time which is a big reason why Lou likely chose him over other guys.He's 3-3 in the playoffs in his career. His greatest claim to fame was against the Devils in 2002. That Devils team struggled to score during the regular season, which led to the trade of Arnott, and the Devils were without Gomez and Sykora could only play every other game. That was also when Weekes was 27.

He looks like he has alot of skill. He just needs to keep his head up and make smarter plays. This is his first NA game and he seems to be doing OK, which is really good for me.
