hockeymistress 09-19-2008, 11:40 AM Interesting interview overall.
Q: Are there teams you can’t stand to play?
A: You mean, like, I want to puke when I see their players? There’s quite a few of those in the league … there’s a number of cities you want to get in and out. Edmonton’s one of them. There are teams you have rivalries with - San Jose, L.A. - and we’re starting to get a pretty good rivalry with Dallas now.

Twindad 09-19-2008, 12:17 PM Gee, bring on the **** storm once again.
Let's see if I got this right before everyone jumps on here. Pronger says something that no one else in the league thinks, playing in city X sucks. :help:
I'm sure every player hates playing someplace, but since it's Edmonton, let the comments begin:cry:
zepps 09-19-2008, 12:21 PM Way to let things be and move on.
abax44 09-19-2008, 12:24 PM I think that can be taken many different ways. I think he's saying, "Edmonton is a tough city to play in", rather than, "Edmonton makes me want to puke".

Reading comprehension is difficult I know, but he only mentioned Edmonton when heading onto his second point, cities that you want to get in and out of. He never directly linked edmonton to his first point.
Besides pronger and the ducks are both poopie faces
Diggy 09-19-2008, 12:29 PM I would not like going to a city that hated me either. Can you really blame him?
Spankatola Jamnuts 09-19-2008, 12:55 PM Ha. Join the club, Chris.
Silver 09-19-2008, 01:00 PM I heard Pronger loved the in and out in Edmonton...:sarcasm:
arinkrat* 09-19-2008, 01:25 PM Why are you even bringing this up? Just when you think we got rid of the Edmonton trolls...
hockeydemon05 09-19-2008, 02:49 PM I've been to Edmonton and I know why Pronger wanted to leave...the drivers sucked. And that huge indoor golf dome thing is pretty weird.
Other then that WestEd was pretty cool.
Kid_Roll 09-19-2008, 02:56 PM I think Chris Pronger loves Ryan Kesler.
This is not going to end up well.
Randall Graves* 09-19-2008, 03:41 PM Nice LOL
WhiteOut 09-19-2008, 03:49 PM Thanks to Russic from CP we have:
swany 09-19-2008, 03:56 PM Great player #1 As*.Most players that leave liked it here. IE Jason Smith, Ryan Smyth, Doug Weight. For every time Prongs opens his mouth it is a shame, he is an excelent hockey player just lacks class. He have let it go no one has mentioned anything about him in a year let it go already. Back to hockey Do you think you guys will win your div?
hockeymistress 09-19-2008, 04:02 PM I think the comment is interesting and not quite as malicious as people think. Another part of the interview he said this:
"Q: Why would a player with your size and skills choose to play so edgy?
A: It's always been the way I've played from Day One. I've always been that guy stirring it up. I learned early on, from minor hockey all the way up, that's it's kept me in the game. If they get mad at you, they're not thinking about the game."
So, it could be part of his instinct/style to just stir the pot in hopes of making Edmonton players angry. It's a verbal jab. Or, depending context, being made to feel like you are going to puke is also a reaction to dread, fear, discomfort and anxiety - he could have meant that. Many ways to read into that.
Also, long shot, could be a veiled Slap Shot reference. "The fans, they make me want to puke, bleah." Or however that line goes...
I think it's just an off the cuff response though in that he just does not enjoy going to Edmonton - the interview questions, the boo'ing, the fans, the drama around it, what it reminds him of. Of course that's probably the least comfortable arena he is in as a result, no?

In Edmonton we were upset when he asked to leave, then rumours start and things snowballed, he is a great player and you guys are lucky to have him. That said you can also keep him as he can act like a dramma queen and is a constant pain in the ***. But there is no doubt he makes the teams he plays for better. His comments don't bother Edmonton anymore it's just to bad this still goes on.
Benny Lava 09-19-2008, 04:38 PM I think the comment is interesting and not quite as malicious as people think.
Why bring it up then?
snarktacular 09-19-2008, 04:46 PM The way I read it, the "players make me want to puke" part was a joke. The Edmonton part is more that he doesn't like the city/fans and just wants to get in and out. Then he talks about rivalries.
Pronger's actually seemed to like his experience with the players and the org. Just based on what he's said. The only thing he's been publicly negative about is the city (more his wife) and the way the fans treated him. And besides, if he really hated Edmonton players, why would he only talk about getting "in and out?" What about when he plays Edmonton in Anaheim?
Diggy 09-19-2008, 04:47 PM Great player #1 As*.Most players that leave liked it here. IE Jason Smith, Ryan Smyth, Doug Weight. Hi pot!
Yes Pronger lacks class. How many times have Edmontonians claimed his wife had an affair? How many times have they attacked his man hood? Hell, they even joked about buying his old furniture just to burn it. That is real class there.
Oh, and it is really classy to say a player should get crosscheck in their broken jaw. (http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?p=13075316&highlight=Pronger#post13075316)
Yep, people who lack class suck.

I think when he brings up Edmonton, its more toward the part of the answer where he was talking about cities he wants to get in and out of, not puke when he sees their players. I mean think about it... the entire city hates him and he's booed every time he's seen. There has to be some bad memories from there too, which is why he requested the trade. I'm sure if you asked any player that leaves a team on bad terms, he'll hate to visit that place.

No one said his WIFE had an affair, he started that crap about us burning his stuff on the Jim Rome show (proven to be false) and my comments about the crosscheck, were after another dirty hit by him. Now my comments were in bad taste, I don't want to see any player get injured, and you were right it was classless. He's still a grade a A**

I have hard the rumor of his wife having an affair many times from Edmonton fans. He did not start the crap about burning his stuff, it was part of a gag on an Edmonton radio show that got put into someone's blog as if it were true and Pronger thought it happened and mentioned it on Jim Rome. It never happened, but he was not the one who came up with it...it was some Edmontonians.
Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone...

Pronger is the one rumored to have had the affair not his wife. Isn't this topic worn out 3 yrs ago anyways?
Lyons71 09-20-2008, 08:49 PM The thread title is misleading. It should say...
"Pronger on quite a few teams in the league: He wants to puke when he sees their players"
But even then, the whole segment was sarcastic. He wouldn't be a very good hockey player if he was bulimic. ;)
jumptheshark 09-20-2008, 09:34 PM I think that he wants to Puke on some of the fans in the city and most of the media. I don't think he hates the players---not many are still there from when he played

Bingo.

I am NOT touching that one with a 10 foot pole.
The only thing Pronger said about Edmonton is that it's a city he wants to get in and out of quickly. He's hated there. Why wouldn't he want to get in and out as quickly as possible?

because oiler fans swung by and corrected the statement---
Does it annoy you that oiler fans understand that pronger feels to them as they do him? and we admit it.
We came by to correct the OP statement--Pronger wants to puke on the fans and not the players
