I just notice that Brett Morrison is on the rookie camp roster of the Ottawa Senators ?

What's happened with him ?

He is a 2007 draft pick, I thought that the Ducks had his rights until 2009 ?

Have they released him ?

Yeah, I noticed it too.
I made a few calls and I'm trying to figure it out.
Looks like Morrison might have been released, but I'll let you know.

Man that sucks. I was hoping that this kid would stick in the system for another year. Oh well.

Lame. I was kind of expecting him to at least be an AHL scorer if not a real prospect.

Is Iowa going to have any scoring/centers? Platt, King, Dixon, and Miller (until he signs) all gone. Their scoring is basically going to consist of possible Ducks Ebbett, Ryan, Salcido, and Carter. And maybe some of those random guy vets.

Seems like Ducks didn't offer a contract.
He will be an Amateur Try Out with Ottawa.

With a name like the C•H•O•P•S, who needs scoring?

Why would they release him? Even if he looks like a complete busted prospect, they should still have a year of his rights. What if he's a late bloomer and tears it up in the CIS? We're not anywhere near the 90 player reserve list limit, are we? We can't possibly have 40+ unsigned prospects.

Yeah, the "porked piggy" logo is plenty offensive to cover for the on-ice product.

Totally speculating here but perhaps the Ducks wanted to sign with the Condors but Morrison is looking to sign with the Chops? So maybe they let him go so he could find a team that he had a chance to sign with their AHL team? Or maybe he just asked to be released? I just can't imagine the Ducks just didn't care about hanging on to him with one more year of eligibility left.

Well if he just wanted an AHL-only deal, he's free to sign that with any AHL team while still under our rights. Sort of like what, uh, (Hynes? Auffrey?) did.

Maybe they're just being nice, but I can't see a real motivation to release him.

Looks like he joined the X-Men.

No, really.

That's pretty old news, but yes, Morrison is playing for St. FX.
In six games he has three goals and six points
