I am in a keeper league and i was just curious what Ducks fans have to say about Mark Mitera?

how far away from the NHL is he?
what kind of player do you think he will be?

anything else you can tell me would be awesome.

thanks in advance!

The consensus is he could be ready for pro hockey but decided to get his degree and have one more crack at a national championship. Personally I envision him to being a very solid defensive-defensemen. Not necessarily a stay-at-home d-man but a guy that'll be very reliable in his own head. He's got good size and skates well from what little I've seen of him. I don't imagine he'll score a lot of goals but should chip in assist wise more often then not. So basically a top-4, possible top pairing d-man who will log a lot minutes. I'd say he's a Duck by next October.

He is ready now from what i've seen but he wants his degree, maybe he'll take this year to work on his offense. He's a Regehr type defensive defensemen, he's pretty mobile for his size, physical, and makes good first passes.

He's nearly a lock to make the team for 09/10 just because of the fact that we only have 1 defenseman signed past this season.

seems to me like he is being very underrated. I know it's just the main board, but he isn't even in the picture as far as top 15 D-men prospects. Which i feel he is.

Alzner gets alot of hype but Mitera plays a very similar game to him.

CHL players as a whole get more coverage then NCAA. In the same breath, Canadian players who play for Team Canada at the World Juniors are going to get just that much more coverage.

I wouldn't say he makes good first passes. Infact, I think that's one of the things that will limit his upside, is his inability to get the puck out of the zone at higher levels. This was one of the reasons why the US team left him off their WJC roster his last year of eligibility, after having him on the roster the year prior.

Did you watch him last year? He improved alot in that aspect from his freshmen year to his junior year.

I never saw him have any problem making that first pass, skating, being physical, or anything else besides that he had some periods where he looked lost out there. I forget who they played, but he was like a -3 in the 1st period and the 3 goals were a result of him being out of position to either cut off the passing lane, or cover his responsibility. That was early on though, and he settled himself down that game to cut down mistakes and really improved from there in all of the games I watched. If he grows again this year, I think he can compete for a top 4 spot with the likes of Mikkelson and Salcido...boy our D could be young next year.
