If practice is closed to the public, i highly doubt that they will let us even take a peek at training camp.

It is tradition for die hard fans to ignore the perfect weather outside in a mid September to freeze your a$$ off indoors to get the first glimpse of the new season, along with the new prospects/etc.

i hope Lou does the right thing and opens up training camp.

yeah, seriously. whats the point of a brand new arena and practice "pavilion" that you keep closed when fans DO show up?

pick and choose the days, but don't leave it completely closed

yea well last year, actually i made this thread last year, i went to the training camp twice at s mountain. the first time i happened to be going to new jersey so i left a few hours early to go to the camp. all that were there were the rooks. i did manange to walk right next to lrob though when he was on skates and i was afraid to make eye contact with him cause hes ****in huge.

i went again about a week later, keep in mind its about 2 hours away from me, and i called before to see if the big boys were going to be practicing and they said that they have the ice blocked off from like 8 am to 2 but were not sure if they actually were going to practice but they had all week. so me and a buddy hit the rode at 630 am to go to s mountain. we get there, im walking in the lobby turn the corner to the rink. nothing. some guy and his girl friend were sitting there and they said they hadnt been on the ice yet. so i had my hopes up. i ended up staing until about 1 or 2. i kept filliung my self with false hope when i saw the zamboni start cleaining the ice and hearing whispers of them maybe getting on the ice soon. but nothing. it wasnt a complete waste of time though cause we stopped at the castle on the way home and i ate away all my disappointment

after saying all that, they better have training camp open this yaer and they better be there if i go, especially cause newark is even farther away.....

Training camp will start in a few weeks and as per TG when someone asked, training camp will be closed. If he hears otherwise he said he would post it.

Although the 1,200-seat facility is the site for many hockey events in which fans can attend, the Devils said it will remain closed to spectators during both minor league and NHL training camps. Minor league camp opens Sept. 15.

If you're so hard up on seeing "practice" go to the pre-season games. I mean really, how can anyone really enjoy watching a practice?

I don't care too much about seeing the veterans practice, but training camp is one of the few/only times I got to see the prospects in action. It was nice to see how they looked out there, what kind of game they played, etc.

This sucks.

I've never really gone too too many practices myself, I would have liked to at some point with the new rink. It just doesn't make any sense that practices are all of a sudden closed when the rink itself is fully operational (this year) and the fact that practices were always open at SMA.

If I remember correctly TG thought the practice rink would be closed this season due to the construction still going on in the arena. The team has no way to contain people only in the practice rink and having people possibly wander around a construction site is a big liability risk.

Its not a big deal to me. I'd like to see them practice, for sure. Realistically, I've only seen them practice 3x in my life at South Mountain.

That said... all that money we spent on this super cool, fantasterastic practice arena could have been... withheld in order to save us some $$ on our tickets.

In the end, it doesn't really affect me.

Must admit years back I used to go to practices all the time. Before they redid south mountain players would sign autographs walking back and forth between the ice and the locker room. I remember watching Lemieux sign and give all of his sticks out to kids. One year my sister and I sat in the penalty box and took pics and watched a scrimmage with prospects and veterans mixed in, it was great stuff. I'm sure the built that rink with the intent to let people in eventually, I'm sure they just aren't ready yet.

if this is true, why cant they just TELL people? Put a little blurb article on the website? couldnt take more than 2 minutes from start to finish.

i wouldnt be upset if i was given even a legit-sounding-BS-reason why not.

They may be closed to the public on the 15 when the camp starts, but I guarantee you half the team if not more is already there practicing somewhere... if you could find out where, or if the arena would let you in now, before camp starts to take a peak... call their main office and or the arena security office, they normally have a listing of who has the ice and at what times..

true story, i still have my broken lemieux stick. i used to go up all the time when i was a kid and get autographs from everyone. my family and i knew brian rolston on a first name basis, it was a lot of fun. its a shame, it was GREAT for me as a kid
