i don't get why people can say "the moon and some black holes" for pavs, but i can't name a specific guy with just as much exaggeration. Of course Nash is better than Pavs, but the bluejackets have noone around the same age or younger than pavs who'd actually be worth it. Torres and Umberger are two forwards only a few years older, and will they push 20 goals? Probably not. I think Pavs can easily get 25 goals next season.

Course you'd give up Pavel for Nash .. and then some. A "fair" trade would require a 1st round pick or another roster player or a lower pick and a prospect.

I was kidding. Trading him would be stupid. Unless, of course, for Nash straight up.

Besides, the only reason I said this was because Pavelski is my favorite player.

I hate threads like this - what do you want for ___ or how about, we'll trade
insert overvalued player(s) for your over/under valued player(s), then the mocking starts of the original poster, with all due respect, then the counter counter proposals start.... where will it all end...

Well to the point. Pavs is not on the market, he's showing signs of breaking out and into an pretty decent center, we just signed him to a contract, he's young so we'll have his rights for a while. Also Patty played well on his wing making him our 2nd line center. We like to grow prospects into NHL players and pavs is a decent example of one that looks like he'll make. So since he's a keeper and we really don't want to trade him, it would have to be for perhaps much more value that he's probally worth given the above. Which means you wouldn't want to get him as he'll cost you more than you want to give up...

FYI - look for him to put up 50-60 points this season if he's healthy.

We have LeClaire. So Nabby cancels out. We have Brassard and Voracek. Cancels out Coture. Setoguchi, Marleau and Pavelski for Nash?

I would think about it, but it'd still be rejected.

Nash is our franchise player. He is what this team is being built around. Why would we trade him away?

This kid can finish top 5 in the goal scoring department every year assuming he doesn't get seriously injured AND has a #1 center. We all see how his talent shows in tournaments and ASG's. I mean seriously, he shoulda had the last two ASG MVP's. But, that's what happens when you play in a market like Columbus.

That's okay though. I love being the underdog. Especially the underdog with one of the best pure goal scorers in the game today.

TO SET SOMETHING STRAIGHT
The only reason I brought up this whole Pavelski thing is because he's my favorite player. Did I really think SJ would trade him? No.

And as for the guy above me, I agree. Pavelski is gonna have his best year yet. I can't wait to see Clowe either. I like a lot of guys on this Sharks team. I used to not like them (simply because of McLaren) but they are really growing on me.

How do you guys feel on letting Rissmiller go?

VP and GM
08-10-2008, 12:31 AM
Re letting rissmiller go - he was a liked role player for us. He worked his way up through the system to establish himself as an NHL player - pretty good success i'd say given his skills and talents. He was a victom of numbers here as we have other players/prospects that can fill his role that are probally at the NHL min on 2 way contracts. The NHL has lots of ex-shark role players doing well after the sharks got them going.

Yeah, he always seemed to be a hard worker. I have Center Ice, so I watch some west coast games while I'm laying in bed.

I really like Seto too. I like guys who grind it out and put forth their effort even if they aren't always rewarded.

Mitchell has to play with the most emotion I've ever seen. I was watching the game where he and Foster had a nasty crash into the boards. Whatever feed I was watching was showing Foster literally yelling in agony, but accidents happen. Mitchell is just a crazy kid out there playing with all the emotion he has.

There's nothing available on Columbus that would improve the Sharks now. Let alone what the value of one Joe Pavelski would return from such a team. The Blue Jackets have Rick Nash that could help the Sharks now but since he's not available, they got nothing that would help the Sharks.

If Rick Nash isn't available, there's no point in talking to anyone a part of the Columbus organization. lol

GuitarByte
08-10-2008, 02:12 AM
you said marleau, seto, pavs for Nash..

so basically, you want our whole 2nd line for your top guy. He'd probably get a richard next to Joe, but that really makes us a topheavy team. You don't want your top line to be the only line scoring.

So basically, since Nash would cost that much, there's no point in even discussing this. It's cool that you like pavs and all, but so do we :D Columbus has nothing we want to be honest. The Sharks organization takes pride in the youth we are able to produce into good nhl players, and Pavs is a guy who's really improving every year and definitely will impact us most likely more than anyone from columbus aside from Nash would.

I can understand your position on comparing Nabokov and Leclaire because the season Pascal just had was exceptional. Then again, so was Nabokov's.

But we're not comparing here.

You'd be getting Nabokov, a Vezina finalist, in addition to Leclaire.
You'd be getting Couture, arguably our top prospect, in addition to Brassard and Voracek.

... What you then do with those assets is entirely up to you! You could trade them or whatever! You can't just discount them!

You'd also be adding the second line of a Stanley Cup contending team on top and all of this doesn't make you any better as a franchise? Due respect, Columbus is a poor hockey team this year and will struggle. This deal actually makes you vastly more competitive but because it's 'Our boy, Rick Nash' involved the other way, you are blinkered to the fact that the overall package is ridiculously weighted in the Jacket's favour!

To say you would reject it is possibly the most bizarre comment I've seen on HF Boards since I joined and it's amongst some frightening company. Please tell me you were just homering this one without actually thinking about the trade.

(As an aside, thankfully Doug Wilson isn't Peter Pocklington... he would never do this.) :sarcasm:
