Playing hockey on ice in the middle of the summer.........OUTDOORS!

Pacific-Ice recently introduced the manufacturing and installation of synthetic outdoor ice hockey rinks that do not require refrigeration. This leading edge technology makes it possible for ice hockey enthusiasts to play outdoors regardless of temperature or location.
Pacific-Ice recently installed its first synthetic ice rink in a private home in the sunny hills of San Jose, California. The rink allows his client's kids to gain valuable ice time while at home. Ice time, which is critical to hockey practice and game improvement, is a rare commodity in warmer climates. A Pacific-Ice outdoor synthetic ice rink skates like "real ice." Skaters can glide, turn, skate backwards, pass and shoot a puck just like they are on a refrigerated ice rink.

God ****ing damn......I'm going to get one of those once they're available to the public for a cheaper price.

Think of all the Zamboni drivers that will lose their jobs from this. :sarcasm:

for 3/4 inches it's 22.99 per square foot
for 1inch it's 28.99 per square foot.

A fellow coach installed that synthetic ice in his basement for his kids who both play. It's a polymer (plastic) that is coated with a special oil that creates the same feel as ice, but it dulls your blades at an incredible rate. Once you skate on the synthetic you must sharpen your skates to go back on ice. He said it's incredibly good for goalies and shooting however.

Ever seen the synthetic ice treadmill? Ohio State has one they rent out for like $100 an hour.

Holy **** that's amazing. :amazed:

Did a quick calculation of the ice packages, and wow is this stuff expensive (for the synthetic ice alone!):

The Pond (1240sq ft.): $28,507
The Shark Tank (2400 sq ft.): $55,176
The Tundra (3840 sq ft.): $88,281

Wow, I'm going to want to get the Tundra and then get all the accessories some day. They'll eventually come down in price. It just started now, but damn.

My dream:

If I ever somehow earned/inherited/won a ridiculous amount of money, the first thing I would do (after paying off my loans and **** of course) would be to buy a house with enough property to build 2 indoor ice rinks attached to the house.

Fixed. ;)

Nothing like a good soak after a hockey game, and nothing like a swim-up bar for non-game days.

Now THAT, RG, is not only my dream now, but heaven.

I love synthetic ice, and I hate synthetic ice. One of the rinks in my area that used to be nice had this little room with synthetic, probably only about 10-15 feet wide and about 25-35 feet long. I knew some of the people who worked the rink complex and in the summer they used to let me use the room pretty much every day, usually at night. I think my average routine was something like 20 1 minute segments of sprints, wall to wall, and 5-10 rounds of sprints with turns instead of stops. Took some shots between rounds to chill and all that. It was nice because I could bring music in there, since I was the only one using the ice, and just blast whatever while I'm working. It really, really, really helped get my skating to the next level, because the stuff is tough to skate on compared to ice. So I love training on synthetic, but I would hate to play a game on the stuff, even just a rec game.

It would be hugely beneficial for the future of North American hockey to have these cheap enough that they're affordable beyond rich people. David Clarkson might be able to skate if he had one of these growing up.

This is really interesting information. I bought Bauer rollerblades a few yers ago, but I hate them because it doesn't seem close enough to iceskating, especially stopping.

I wonder how well they can make this in the future.

try skating on a sport court - you can hockey stop on rollerblades on that surface.

You can try outfitting your rollerblades with a TUUK rocker chassis, they're supposed to simulate the radius of a skate blade.

ok whoever has actually skated on synthetic ice knows its so much different then actual ice. its much more difficult and harder to push off
