I could swear it was Craig Wolanin, Game-1 in Long Island.

I'm ashamed to say I had forgotten this and was going to guess Tom Kurvers. However, I dug out the old Hockey News (when it was great and published box scores for all the games.) It was Wolanin.
But who scored the second ever playoff goal for us?
As a clue: I considered him the prototypical Devils player around that time; not overburdened with skill but hugely courageous, tough and hard working. He never cut corners and always did the little things conscientiously.
As a bigger clue: we picked him up from Montreal.

David Maley? I think Maley was drafted by Montreal.

Who was the first Devil to score in the red-white-black uniforn and when was it?

God. I know the when - the last goal scored in 1992 playoffs and the first goal scored in the 1993 regular season. As for the who... offhand, I have not a clue. I'd have to do some research.
TattooDevilsFan 08-07-2008, 09:56 AM Who did the Devils acquire from the Hartford Whalers in exchange for Pat Verbeek?
britdevil 08-07-2008, 09:58 AM Sylvain Turgeon

I was not for the change to Red & Black when it happened, but looking back it was the best marketing move the Devils have ever made.

It was the only marketing move the Devils have ever made.:sarcasm:
brule2000 08-08-2008, 06:29 AM Do you remember when Lou announced it? He said research confirmed players appeared bigger and more intimidating in black than green.
For a moment I thought of Reggie Dunlop; then realised he was right and it was such an obvious move to make. When Scott Stevens looks less than intimidating in your team's jersey, it needs changing.
brule2000 08-08-2008, 06:32 AM David Maley? I think Maley was drafted by Montreal.
Maley is the correct answer. John MacLean scored the third goal that night, forcing the first of way too many unsuccesful playoff OTs.

Last in green was Pat Conacher. First in black; Scott Stevens.
See, I said black made them look bigger.
If you count pre-season games then the first was scored by mighty Myles O'Connor.
Right, now to post this and see if I've won a Connect 4 award.:help:

TattooDevilsFan 08-14-2008, 02:32 PM It was Ron Lowe 6-0 shutout at the Garden.

Don Lever is definitely one, and I think Jeff Larmer was another. I haven't got a clue who the third was.

Oh that's right, he did play with us that first season.
brule2000 08-16-2008, 05:47 AM I'm sure I have a Topps or O Pee Chee hockey card of him from '83 as team goal scoring leader. I think it was a subset they did; before subsets even existed (the 21 team leading goal-scorers).:help:
