The under-20 World Juniors is being hosted by Saskatoon/Regina but it has been made public by the committee before that they would like to get exhibition games to more rural small-town hockey communities.
“Today is a great day for hockey in Canada and especially in Saskatchewan,” said Hockey Canada president and CEO Bob Nicholson. "The Saskatchewan bid team did a great job in bringing a province-wide bid and solid business plan for us to consider.
While some other WHL cities may have some consideration it is the SJHL cities that should be the winner in this.
While I can not confirm it, or give a source out (why its labeled rumour) I have been told enough information to say that these cities will receive an exhibition game for the 2010 World Jrs:
Humboldt, SK (1,900)
North Battleford, SK (2,300)
Weyburn (2,000)
Yorkton, SK (2,300)
Unsure:
Melville,SK
Estevan, SK
Kindersley, SK
Melfort, SK
Cities left out:
Nipawin, SK
La Ronge, SK
Wilcox, SK
Flin Flon, SK
So far from official or definite but those are supposedly the 4 'leading' SJHL cities to land a game.
===
If this does prove to be incorrect I apologise but have been told from someone from Saskatoon that this is the plan so I will take my risk. Eklund can make a living off of it so no harm here
This is definitely more than I thought they would have so Im not sure how far along this is but that'd be great for the province so do take it with a "grain of salt".
