I know it's in french, the main point is Boyle want to stay in Tampa and will not waive is no-trade clause.

There goes that avenue....

I don't think Boyle was ever in our plans at all especially with that contract the Devils would never trade for him. Not to mention he's not that good defensively and did I mention his contract! $6.6 million! No thanks.

Maybe Lou is actually thinking of just....staying put! Do nothing else other then upgrade Lowell, let the defense pan out for itself, and of the 8 defense man one can be sent to Lowell depending on who had a worse Camp. Then during the season if the need arises to pick up a D Man whther duringthe season or at the deadline it is always an option since we have cap Space.

Maybe we should just let it ride. Bergfors is NOT a 100% lock to make this team. he could be another Chrisian Berglund. It might be better to keep Gionta in his contract year, throw him on RW with Elias and see if he can put up 30-35 Goals and make our lines even stronger. Bergfors could also work out but that is not a lock. Same with Corrente who has not had a season in Lowell yet. Even if Bergfors did make the team Rupp could be the reserve

Enter the season (Lets say Bergfors makes the team):

Rolston-Elias-Bergfors
Parise-Zajac-Gionta
Zubrus-Madden-Langenbrunner
Pandolfo-Holik-Clarkson

Rupp/Pelley or Vrana

Martin
White
Oduya
Salvador
Greene
Vishnevski

Brookbank and Mottau battle for the 7th spot where the other is sent to Lowell but could get a call up during the season. Corrente starts in Lowell

Lou has $2 mill in Cap Space. A trade for a Defenseman can occur at the deadline.

Maybe this is the way to go.

Very nice lines, love the D thats what it should be hopefully we send those 2 to lowelll sign smith as a seventh and swith him in out with vish having that warrrior spirit we havent had since dano/stevens. Still would leave enough for a trade at the deadline. Although I tend to think bergfors may not start on the 1st were assuming like vikhula last season id peg him at 4th line right now but thata just me seeing is believing, butit not too far offf. ilike your d set-up I would also love to see oduya moved word from the buffalo office they have showed interest in him, maybe we can get some size and talent in tillander(hes a bug bird mold(

Ok how this :

Melrose said it was a case of the Canadian media trying to "make" the news, and added, "Danny Boyle is the guy I'm counting on to play 25 minutes a night."

That's from June 26th.

Boyle isn't coming here, we can't afford his contract. Even with moving Gionta and Vishnevski out to make room for Boyle that would only leave the Devils less than a million dollars and they wouldn't have much room for a trade deadline acquisition. I don't think Lou is going to want to be that close after what happened in 2007.

If the Devils are to make a trade for a defensemen (and I think they will) the player coming in will have to make no more than 6 million.

If Dan wants to play hardball, they could buy out his contract for 1/3rd it's value I believe (over the age of 30 is 1/3rd if I recall) and that would make it more appealing in trade from others and make his hit only 4.44M/yr.

But would Tampa owners really want to pay 2.22M/year to do that for the next 6 years?

Does a buy-out basically waive him or negate a NTC? I'm not educated in the CBA well at all.

*edit: the rumors are Flyers, Pens, Sharks as the key players here anyhow...

Scratch the Sharks off that list, they now signed Blake.

A buyout means you lose all rights to him. You can't buy him out and then trade him.

How would the Flyers afford him. and why would they want too. The Ning would want something good in return and I assume would want a dman back.

The Ning? Please tell me their fans don't call them that.
