HBK27 07-02-2008, 01:31 PM There's a report out there that Lou offered Sergei Fedorov a one year, $2M contract. It was mentioned earlier on NHL Live & I just did a quick Google search to find a source - I'm assuming this is where NHL Live got the rumor from as well:
http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2008/07/news_from_across_the_pond_on_f.html
Sport-Express's Igor Larin says that the New Jersey Devils have offered Sergei Fedorov a contract, and Soviet SPorts' Pavel Lysenkov hopes that what he deems a "humiliating" $2 million, one-year contract offer (the Washington Post's Tarik El-Bashir confirms that Fedorov is seeking twice that amount) will spurn the 38-year-old to play in the Continental Hockey League.
If true, perhaps Fedorov was Lou's first choice for 4th line center but decided to go with Holik instead once he heard Sergei's asking price? I can't imagine Lou would try to bring in both guys.
The article also goes on to list the Devils as one of the teams interested in Sundin:
According to sources of Sport-Expressen, in addition to Vancouver, also Montreal, Detroit, New York Rangers, New Jersey, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Boston, San Jose and Anaheim would like to have Mats Sundin on their team in autumn.
Edit: D'oh...realized I spelled "Fedorov" wrong in the title. Any way I can fix that?
I saw this earlier and had 2 reactions:
I can't imagine a player that has come straight out and said how miserable it was playing in a defensive first system, and claimed that Hitchcock ruined hockey for him, would consider playing in an organization known for playing defensive hockey.
I also don't understand how a journalist can call the Caps's of $2m "humiliating" in one sentence, and then suggeset Fedorov go to a team that has less than $1.5m in cap space the next sentence. But that's Russian journalism for you. Completely devoid of any and all logic and common sense.
And please, spell his name correctly in the title of the thread. It's in the article you quoted.
BenedictGomez 07-02-2008, 01:36 PM He has scored a total of 43 goals in the last 3 seasons. He isnt worth big money now. Pre and Post-Kournikova Fedorov are 2 different players.
Devilsfanatic 07-02-2008, 01:36 PM Fedorov at 4 million? NO ONE is going to give him that. May as well go back home.

watch the rangers sign him and jagr :amazed:
Gunnar Stahl 30 07-02-2008, 01:39 PM how up to date is taht? that might be before the holik signing because there is no room for him
Devilsfanatic 07-02-2008, 01:39 PM watch the rangers sign him and jagr :amazed:
Go ahead, this is 2008, you'd be about 10 years too late.
jkrdevil 07-02-2008, 01:40 PM Fedorov at 4 million? NO ONE is going to give him that. May as well go back home.
I wouldn't say no one. If Jeff Finger can get 3.4 million per year, Fedorov can get 4.

yea im all for it
Devilsfanatic 07-02-2008, 01:40 PM And no to Fedorov, did we not learn from Larionov?!
As for Sundin.....alright, go for it, but trade Zajac and Gionta so we can wrap Mats in a BOUW :p:
Devilsfanatic 07-02-2008, 01:41 PM I wouldn't say no one. If Jeff Finger can get 3.4 million per year, Fedorov can get 4.
That's the Leafs though. Mental retardation is like blood, it runs trough them.
Brooklyndevil 07-02-2008, 01:53 PM Please no more older players. I happy about Brian and Holik will serve a purpose, but enough is enough. Now, Lou needs to add a defensemen and hope the young player like Zajac and Clarkson get better and one or two of Bergfors, Vrana and Corrente can make the team and produce.
fluffernutter mf 07-02-2008, 01:54 PM I wouldn't say no one. If Jeff Finger can get 3.4 million per year, Fedorov can get 4.
Only if he's willing to go to the Leafs.
TheDevilMadeMe 07-02-2008, 01:54 PM I would have absolutely loved having Fedorov for 2 million or even 2.5. He's not a star anymore, but still brings a lot to the table in a lesser role.
guyincognito 07-02-2008, 01:59 PM He'll probably get more than $2M, but he's going to have to wait. There's alot of teams that need to spend money on nothing.
OnDaMark 07-02-2008, 02:01 PM We need younger stars not "has beens". We need an aggressive offense with a solid defense. Don't forget we have Marty in goal. Let's score.
Jiri Bicek 07-02-2008, 02:08 PM That's our puck- moving d-man! :sarcasm:
GentlemanOfLeisure 07-02-2008, 02:12 PM we offered 2 million to Federov to play hockey???? Or to be an assistant coach?

What does that have to do with anything? Is he gonna sign with the Nets or something?
On a related note, anyone know what Govenor Burn is up to nowadays?
Brodeur 07-02-2008, 02:26 PM I wanted Fedorov as a rental last year, but I think we made our choice (for better or worse) with Holik. He looked good with the Caps last year, as a hockey fan I'd like to see him back there.

Lmao Burn.
According to Wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendan_Byrne
He is currently a partner at Carella, Byrne, Bain, Gilfillan, Cecchi, Stewart & Olstein in Roseland. Additionally, Byrne and his successor as governor, Thomas Kean, co-write a weekly column in the The Star Ledger, containing their "dialogue" on state and national public affairs and politics.
TaiMaiShu 07-02-2008, 02:36 PM Let's sign Federov and put him on defense.... who's in!?

I'd do it! In fantasy hockey I could put him at C/LW/D hahaha
åboriginal 07-02-2008, 03:51 PM if this is true, then **** lou for even considering him. anyone else over 35 we can sign? :shakehead

If it was Holik OR Fedorov, I have no problem with it.
If Lou considered signing Fedorov IN ADDITION to Holik, I'd wonder what he was thinking.
I really think Fedorov (at a reasonable price) was plan A, & Holik was plan B (again, assuming this information is true).

Does this mean you would wonder what Lou is thinking if he signs Shanahan as well as Holik?
