Devils declined their option on Sergei Brylin. Just a thread to thank him for all he's done for the team

Until you see him 'signed' somewhere else; he'll be back for his final year even if that's only to get scratched or sent down to Lowell.

No way he's not taking his option to get $1.5 M this year.

RG, it's too late. He had to activate the option by noon.

Lou says that Brylin is exercising his options elsewhere, but I have to wonder if that isn't a fancy euphemism for being locked in a concrete basement somewhere in downtown Newark.

Really!? There must be a wink wink nod nod deal between them if he doesn't get a sweet offer elsewhere then.

He could be back with the Devils though, so I agree with your sentiment that we should wait before buying him a gold watch.

Sarge was a strong piece to the 2000 and 2003 Cups and he even contributed as a rookie in the 1995 Cup.
A great warrior, maybe we'll seem him back this season but if not kudos to the great Sarge Brylin.

Sorry to see Brylin not get signed.

He's been around for a long time and has been one of my fav Devils. He isn't a flashy player who does his job quietly and doesn't get the attention like other players but he still got the job done. We all know what Lou likes in players and the type of person he likes his players to be and I think it says alot about Brylin to have been with the Devils for 14+ seasons and on 3 Cup winners.

No the Kool-aid is in the drinking water at the draft and contract signings. Then in all the water-bottles / gatorade at practice.

I'll miss Sarge, but I can't say I'm sad to see him go. He doesn't have that much left in the tank, and he never really fit into Sutter's system.

This could bring an end to Brylin's 13-season career with the Devils, but Lamoriello wouldn't rule out re-signing him at a later date -- after Brylin finds his value on the open market.

“We had a sit-down sort of meeting and spent a considerable amount of time on all different types of alternatives and where he is as of today and the best scenario and what can and can’t be done and it was a conclusion it was in both (sides) best interest to see what he could do for his future,” Lamoriello said. “It’s no different than we’ve done in other cases with players of his status.”

He's not necessarily gone folks... just exploring offers so far.

He's been a great Devil and it will be weird if he really is gone, but I will be kind of pissed if he's brought back. Lou even said himself that there are young players that need to be infused into the lineup. Brylin's time as a Devil should be over.

you know what...I'll go on record saying it now. I don't want to be the NY Rangers with their ****ing ******y ****ing gimmick jersey retirements. But I think Sarge deserves it...he deserves it the same way Dano deserved it, he was the epitome of what this team wanted from a player as a player and as a person and I think that merits hanging his number in the rafters.

Not because he was a HOF player, not because he scored a ton of points, because hanging in the rafters he will remind the younger players, just as #3 will, of what it means to be a Devil.

Maybe he'll be back, but regardless, I stand by that statement, drunk or not.

Wow, not for nothing, but if I were Sarge and I heard that my team chose someone else over me, I wouldn't want to play with that team anymore.

Yeah, I kinda feel bad for him. It's not even that they let him go for somebody else, they let them go for his former teammates. But, it's a business. If I'm not going to get pissed about Gomez walking, I'm not going to get pissed about this. Although I know someone who is going to be totally incensed about this and luckily I won't have to hear about it for awhile.

But really, I'm not 100% convinced he's going to get any significant offer on the market, so he might end up coming back, unless like you said, he takes it personally.
