Great news. I wasn't expecting Lou to get that done today as well. One Russian down, one to go.

The smile on my face is pretty wide right now.

We still have another year to sign the Vas, so I wouldnt worry about it. Lou is installing some faith in the hopefull I guess.

Most recent updates given in the Russian player inquiry thread:

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?p=10561476&highlight=Zharkov#post10561476

Zharkov is still with HC CSKA. He is a smaller skilled winger who has not really developed very much since the draft. I wouldn't give up on him yet though...I don't think HC CSKA has given up on him yet. He will get some ice time this season and really he could take off any one of the next few seasons, or just fizzle away. I know that could be set about a lot of prospect, but that's the plight of skilled, fast guys, they just need to mature in their head and once/if they do, they can really become another Mozyakin, or just dissappear and be margina. I liked this kid during his draft year, but last season he just didn't really stand out that much or raise his game to the next level.

am wondering what type of game Vladimir Zharkov plays. What is his potential like?
Now about Zharkov – he had a pretty mediocre season. Part of it has to do with ice time, but he really hasn’t done much to deserve more and Bykov is a pretty level headed coach who will give you your chance. He has skilled and plays fast paced hockey. He is also not afraid of traffic and constantly tries to prove himself. He is not very big though and hasn’t yet developed a lot of strength. I like his potentially, but am still not sure about his upside and ability to raise his game to the next level, but could evolve into a Mozyakin type player with more of a physical edge.

Both provided by RussianProspects, of http://www.russianprospects.com/. Zharkov's profile (I think it's from pre-draft) here http://www.russianprospects.com/public/profile.php?player_id=536.

Hmmm a small, speedy, skilled winger. Sounds so familiar.

I wouldn't consider anyone 6' 190lbs. small. Wouldn't consider him overly big either though.

true enough. It'll be interesting to see how he plays next year.

Kid looks like my cousin. It's kind of eerie.

Halischuk or Zharkov? I think both will be in Lowell.

Lou said in an interview that Halischuk is too young (although he recently turned 20) will most likely play another year in Jrs.

And I'm 99.9% sure that Lou is wrong there. Like you said, he's already 20 and he's already played 4 years in the OHL, there is no reason whatsoever why he wouldn't be eligible for the AHL.

Zharkov has always been a player who's interested me.

Do you guys think he'll play the full year in the AHL?

Do you guys think he can be an offensive producer for the Devils?

Vasyunov and Tulupov were more intruiging prospects to me, but I think this guy has a high ceiling. He will have an impact in AHL for sure. Is Khomutov staying here this year?
