Hi,
The Ottawa 67s picked up Yakov Vorobyov / Vorobiev in the CHL Import Draft and I was wondering if anyone has seen him play other then from the world championships?
He plays for the Torpeddo Kazinic (sp?) as a LW. Born 7 July 1989.
Does anyone know if he has any intent to come over to North America?
Much appreciated.
As is the case with a lot of the Europeans, if he makes the 'big boy' team in Russia, he'll stay. If not then he'll head over to Canada.

He actually did very well in the world juniors however i'm not very sure how strong the Kazakh league is though there are 2 two teams from there that are now apart of the new KHL i believe.
In regards to his game play, he's similar to Nathan Horton.
Here's a video clip of him scoring 2 goals and a post game interview (in Russian with Czech interpretor):

the kazakh league is more a short tournament. Kazzinc Torpedo Oskemen plays in the KHL's tier-2 ("Vysshaya Liga")

What little I got to see of Vorobiev during the WJCs impressed me.
I'd really like to see him make the jump and maybe get drafted next June. It'll be tough, though, since it doesn't sound like he knows a lot of English...
