Anyone ever figure out who Ken Hitchcock was talking about

when he said prior to the Devils game, that NJ was assuming they would pass the Flyers in the division race and that they would have something to say about that? I've looked all over for Devils players quotes which would substantiate such claims and all I could find was stuff from players like Madden and Langenbrunner saying the team just has to continue keeping pace with the rest of the top teams and things will be ok at the end of the season. Nothing even remotely close to any perceived cockiness or assumptions anywhere to be found. http://www.hfboards.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif

Maybe Pat Burns, there was something in the Bergen record the other day

Maybe Pat Burns, there was something in the Bergen record the other day I don't think it was Pat Burns. All his recent quotes to the media have been to the effect of: it doesn't really matter which place we finish in as long as we make the playoffs - our primary goal is to make it to the dance first then we worry about everything else later. Matter of fact, just the other day he was saying he laughed to himself on day one when some of the players were all talking about finishing in first place at the end of the year.

Perhaps Hitchcock was just posturing when he said that.
Maybe he was trying to provide some bulletin board material. (Well I guess he succeeded...though maybe not the exact bulletin board be was intending).

Actually, he pretty much was. The way he put it was that the team had a crazy day with both Comrie and Weinrich leaving, and he wanted to take the focus off of that. I woulnd't say he "made up" what New Jersey was saying, but he definetly put a spin on it, that New Jersey kinda felt like they were going to win the Atlantic. The way he put it was that it was trash talk, but he really wanted to get into the Flyers head that the division was theres for teh taking. Just more Hitchcock mind games.
