Stevens update

In today's Bergen Record(I tried post a link to the article, but it wouldn't work), Stevens acknowledges his season may be over. He is still experiencing symptoms off and on. Dr. Karen Johnston has not given him a green light to even do sit-ups or push-ups. Long walks, followed by monitoring his heart rate, are his maximum physical workout at this time. He estimates that he may have had five concussions in his career.

Does Lou continue to wait for his recovery? Make a deal for a temporary replacement as soon as possible? Wait until the deadline to make a move for a top-4 physical stay-at-home D? Stand pat and take care of it in the off-season or post-CBA settlement and bring up a DeMarchi/Matteuci/Giroux from Albany? Call Daneyko out of retirement, as he hasn't signed his retirement papers, despite saying he won't make a comeback? Concentrate on acquiring a scoring forward and hope the current D will adjust to Stevens' absence?

Maybe a poll could be set up.

Who would you want and what would you give up to get them?

I think it's very interesting that Daneyko hasn't signed his retirement papers yet. Very interesting indeed.

This is potentially bad news, but I don't think Scotty is totally resigned to missing the rest of the season.

Also, the NY Post had an article (http://www.nypost.com/sports/devils/15599.htm) about Niedermayer today. At the end of the article, there was this quote from Brodeur:
Correctly expecting to be directly affected by the proposed rule change - first revealed here in December from Flyer GM Bobby Clarke - that would penalize goalies if they play the puck behind the net, Martin Brodeur said, "I guess they're worrying about goalies rather than worrying about the CBA."

:teach: :joker: Thats a great quote. You know the league officials have reached the bottom of the barrel when they are proposing giving goaltenders two blockers and no catching glove as well as suggesting the solution to increased goal scoring can come from having goaltenders handcuffed to their creases. Maybe if we paint the lines different colors, goal scoring will go up again? http://www.hfboards.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif Just call the rules the way they were intended to be called.

About Scott Stevens- During the Devils-Rangers game, Matt Loughlin and Stan Fischler were talking about Lou Lamoriello's thoughts on the proposed changes. After saying that Lou thinks they will pass, though he doesn't like some of them, Matt Loughlin added that Lou Lamoriello had nothing new to add about Scott Stevens, except that he would return this year. I don't know if it is wishful thinking on the part of Lou Lamoriello.

Lou was on WFAN yesterday telling the same to Chris Russo.
I was listening to the radio in the truck after attending practice on the way home. When I got back to my place, I turned on YES and that's what he said.
I don't know about Lou's wishful thinking, but I think Scotty's will alone will see him return to the ice in time to warm up for the playoffs...
