I'm assuming some 15 or so players of this year's roster will be on the Olympic team. Then Sushinsky, Mozyakin, Gorovikov, Fedorov, Proshkin, D. Markov, Eremenko, and Biryukov can be replaced by Frolov, Malkin, Datsyuk, Kulemin/Zherdev, Volchenkov, Gonchar, Bryzgalov, and Varlamov. Although if Feds is still playing by then, the Olympics would be an even more fitting conclusion to his international career.

Really doubt it

kovalev will be about 37 years of age at the time of the olympics. Even if he's still bringing it, there's somebody in russian management that doesn't like him, for whatever reason.

He went from the captain of the team for a few years, to not even being selected.

In the 2006 olympics, when bure was named GM of russia, I remember kovalev had something like: I dont play for the GM, I could care less who he is, I play for my country.

I assume there is still some management around from 2006, and I guess there has been some friction that has slowly eroded the relationship.

Firstly, he's a U.S. citizen, although that doesn't stop Fedorov. And like Mogilny, he wouldn't like being an old guy who takes the roster spot of a youngster who worked the whole season just to make the national team.

The speed and skill on this team is just ridiculous.

If Fedorov makes it to Vancouver he'll be in the 3rd line. He's still a great player and WC showed that he still has it, but in 2010 and a 1st line center?

Make the centers Malkin-Dats-Feds and its pretty solid.

Malkin, Gonchar and Datsyuk would be my top 3 choices.

No, I did not watch him. But Afinogenov has a reputation of a stable performer in all WCh's, not the brainiest of guys of course, but I think this will put him over Zherdev.

What about Yashin? on 4th line if Fedorov does not play.

Likely the centers will be Malkin, Dats, Zina and one of Brylin/some RSLer. Yash is not in any role for the 4-th line

If Tereshchenko keeps up his play and becomes a regular on Bykov's Eurotour tours and next year's WC, then I'd pick him on the Olympic squad to be the 4th centre.
