Heat McManus 05-08-2008, 09:10 PM I've heard grumblings about Marleau being moved. Personally, I'd love to get this guy. He was the #1 center in SJ before Thornton arrived, the guy can play.
What do you think the chances of Lou landing this guy?

this is the 3rd year in a row that's been talked about.
ILikeItVeryMuch 05-08-2008, 09:13 PM Yeah honestly, a part of me doesnt even want to get my hopes up about signings this season.
jkrdevil 05-08-2008, 09:15 PM He played well down the stretch of the Dallas series I think they will keep him. He has a no trade clause that kicks in on July 1.
Heat McManus 05-08-2008, 09:18 PM found a thread on it. Search function is screwy sometimes. Mod can lock if you like.
Game Breaker 05-08-2008, 09:36 PM It was brought up in the changes for next season thread. He would be an amazing addition here, but we would have to give up too much...
wupucksharkir 05-08-2008, 09:47 PM In all likelihood PM will not be traded. The rumor and speculation was strictly due to PM not getting along w/ the coach RW. There is an extremely high possibility that RW will not be extended so PM's early season "Pouting" will most likely not be repeated next season.
Richer's Ghost 05-08-2008, 10:05 PM Wilson goes before Marleau
Saint Martin 05-08-2008, 10:34 PM Marleau is a Devil's player. This is a guy that I think Lou goes after. He will come in and "surprise" everyone with his all around game, and announcers will marvel at his turn-around, even though it isn't really a turn around at all. He will come here and score 60-70 points and will become a Selke candidate. I see him as a Devil, oh yes I do.
He is doomed to failure in SJ because he can never live up to the 2nd overall hype. Teams expect him to be a great scorer. I also see David Legwand as a Devil too...
In time, one of them will turn to the darkside! We will have our player!

Who will be going the other way?
Niedermayer21 05-09-2008, 01:45 AM Who will be going the other way?
That is a great question. Marleau is coming off an awful regular season stats-wise. However, he looked great in the playoffs. I would love to get him and play him with Patty Elias. I don't know which one would play center. Does it really matter?
Start putting together some packages. I bet we could get him for Johnny Madden, even up, but I would never trade Mad Dog. Maybe for Messier in his prime. And they both wear number 11 so no one would have to give up their number. Brilliant, eh? LOL

Actually, the rumour mill in 2001 had talk of a Holik for Marleau trade. Hindsight, anyone?
Pantokrator 05-09-2008, 07:02 AM Who will be going the other way?
OK, I haven't thought about that part yet. I see this guy as a good fit on the Devils, but I can't see who they would be willing to trade or able to trade to get him. Any thoughts? What about something like Zajac and a first round pick? I don't even know San Jose's needs, but this guy would be a phenomenal Devil. I'd hate it as a Flyers fan.
vadvlfan 05-09-2008, 07:19 AM I don't think Marleau has bee nthe same player after his shoulder surgery 2 yrs ago. There was talk of concussion problems at the time as well. He used to be physicall & a monster on the boards. He's not the same man as 3 yrs ago. Certainly @ over 6 mil annually.
Brooklyndevil 05-09-2008, 09:20 AM Sharks may just take Zajac and a pick. Still not sure if Lou would go that way.

well in 01 I wasn't nearly as into the business side of it as I am now. Of course I always loved the trade-deadline to see what happened but I never got into the rumors or anything like that.
and at that point in my life I was too stoned everyday to even realize. haha.
DevFan-RU- 05-09-2008, 10:54 AM I heard Souray may want to sign here as well....

According to nhlline.ca, Souray's and Lou are still finalizing the deal...:shakehead

Souray admitted that he was very close to signing with New Jersey this summer.

Yep. It was Marleau & Jeff Jillson for Holik and either picks or prospects.
I remember being equally excited about Jillson but he sure dropped off the face of the earth.
