OT: Leafs fire Mauricecj225 05-07-2008, 11:04 AM The Toronto Maple Leafs have fired coach Paul Maurice, sources tell TSN. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=237026&lid=headline&lpos=topStory_nhl ILikeItVeryMuch 05-07-2008, 11:07 AM You forgot the second part of the story, who the Leafs hired as a replacement. http://bp1.blogger.com/_d8bF7KBsmHI/R1y1zBK7TcI/AAAAAAAABSk/p48g9vSzFaE/s320/ron-duguay-poster.jpg britdevil 05-07-2008, 11:07 AM Thats just not cricket baby. :amazed: Richer's Ghost 05-07-2008, 11:13 AM WOW... that is not a good move. He was the only reason that team held together the 2nd half and even had an outside shot at the playoffs to begin with... Maybe it's a blessing in disguise for him. Dumb move #861 by the Leafs. He's a great coach and should easily catch on somewhere (hopefully where he can get the proper players to win). Marv4Life 05-07-2008, 11:55 AM Didn't see that coming actually. It looks like another dumb move but we shall see. ILikeItVeryMuch 05-07-2008, 12:06 PM Maurice did what he could with that team, a new coach will not fix their problems. Randal Graves 05-07-2008, 04:50 PM Sounds like they found their new GM. It's well known most new GM's like to hire their own coaches. Dialamo 05-07-2008, 05:10 PM WOW... that is not a good move. Look at the posts from Leafs fans made in the thread on this topic on the main board. However, I do believe he was a good coach, no matter what. I just think he was just handicapped by the roster he had to deal with. I remember that run he had with Carolina in 2002 when he made it to the cup finals. Beat Toronto in the conference finals as well! Sadly, they beat us in the first round, another one of our disappointing playoff collapses with a strong team. (1997 was disappointing as well) I was also quite surprised on how well Toronto played back then. A lot better than expected. They took us to game 7 in 2001 (They lead the series 3-2 at one point) and a conference finals in 2002 to boot. Was it all because of Cujo and Sundin playing awesome? Solid forward/defensive depth? Clarkson Falls Down 05-07-2008, 06:22 PM The Leafs need a guy like Burns. devils1983 05-07-2008, 06:53 PM The Leafs need a guy like Burns. They had Burns...and they fired him. Clarkson Falls Down 05-07-2008, 06:58 PM They had Burns...and they fired him. I am aware of that. But the 08-09 Leafs need a guy like that. DevilFisch 05-07-2008, 07:05 PM I am aware of that. But the 08-09 Leafs need a guy like that. Well, they're going to have to talk to LOU, first. As much as I like Sutter s our coach, I still wish Burns was behind the bench! jkrdevil 05-07-2008, 09:12 PM The Leafs need a guy like Burns. Well they already have Cliff Fletcher back might as well bring back Burns and re-live 1993. | ||
