Burns Happy With Team Canada - Nhl Next?VernonDevilsFan 05-03-2008, 03:50 PM http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/story/?id=236667&lid=headline&lpos=secStory_main He has some nice things to say about Lou and the Devils. Richer's Ghost 05-03-2008, 03:58 PM "That's all going to depend on who's talking to me and what it's all about. You don't jump at the first job because somebody calls you up. It has to be the right situation. I've heard Ottawa, Tampa and Miami - I've heard them all. What's important is that I'm happy working with the Devils. If that situation comes, they have to talk to Lou first and I would sit down and talk to him about it because I really trust his judgement." Awesome. :handclap: Dialamo 05-03-2008, 04:13 PM Hopefully he can replace Johnny Mac as an assistant coach. Then we would definitely have the absolute best coaching staff in the NHL. Exactly what I was thinking. That would be awesome. DevilBesideYou 05-03-2008, 10:01 PM Exactly what I was thinking. That would be awesome. I wonder if that is what Lou is planning? Although I would happily accept Peter DeBoer too. TheHMan 05-03-2008, 10:05 PM I really hope Ottawa nabs this guy. He's at the top of just about every Senators fans wish list. Devilsfanatic 05-03-2008, 10:46 PM I really hope Ottawa nabs this guy. He's at the top of just about every Senators fans wish list. Just like Larry can't be anyones but ours, neither can Burnsy. Then we would definitely have the absolute best coaching staff in the NHL.Why would Pat Burns serve as Brent Sutter's assistant? Burns has won three Jack Adams and a Stanley Cup Championship. There is a lot of room for improvement with Coach Sutter. He certainly improved some of his coaching methods as the season progressed. I always figured that Lou Lamoriello had a talk with him and explained what a Special Assignment Coach is. Coach Sutter had the team play a more sound defensive game, and he stopped criticizing the players in the media like he was in the New York Yankees organization in the late 1970's. Also, as has been mentioned by several posters in previous threads about Pat Burns, he's not really an offensive-oriented coach. He is a brilliant defensive-minded coach, but this team needs a power play guru. Muttley 05-04-2008, 01:12 PM Why would Pat Burns serve as Brent Sutter's assistant? I don't think it's in the best interests for Pat Burns and his continually recovering health to come back to this post-lockout NHL. With 10 penalties called per game now, he'd go nuts behind the bench, and I can't imagine what it would be like for the poor guy to have to sit through the first round of the playoffs against the NYR and watch this wimpy team let Martin Brodeur get run by that little stooge and have your leading scorer get a stick in the mouth that could have easily knocked him into next season. DON'T DO IT PAT!!! We love you but things are much different now in the NHL and more importantly, on the Devils. TwiMuse 05-04-2008, 01:33 PM Anybody heard what Burns said about the Latvian fans? "I think they're amazing," said assistant coach Pat Burns. "I wanted to call Lou and say, 'Can we buy them and bring them to Jersey with us?' Richer's Ghost 05-12-2008, 10:14 AM http://www.denverpost.com/avalanche/ci_9206746 Avs assistant coaches Tony Granato and Jacques Cloutier will remain under contract, Giguere said, but it was unclear whether the team would keep them on in the same capacity under the new coach for next season. Who will that new coach be? Giguere said he will undergo a patient process to find one, but wouldn't say who any leading candidates are or what kind of qualifications are needed. Probably the hottest available candidate is three-time NHL Joel Quenneville in 2003. (Getty Images North America | Jeff Vinnick) coach of the year, Pat Burns, currently an assistant with Canada in the IIHF World Championships. Burns remains under contract with the New Jersey Devils, whom he helped guide to the Stanley Cup in 2003 before taking a leave of absence in July, 2005, to battle colon cancer. His cancer is in remission and he has said he wants to come back as an NHL head coach. The Devils would have to grant permission to the Avs or any other team that might want to talk to Burns before June 30. It's also possible the Devils, beaten in the first round of the playoffs this season, might make him their head coach again. Brent to GM?, Burns back behind the bench? All speculation of course, but we do know that Brent stated he wanted a GM role if he went into the NHL... maybe they have a succession plan developed that includes something along these lines? britdevil 05-12-2008, 10:20 AM Brent to GM?, Burns back behind the bench? All speculation of course, but we do know that Brent stated he wanted a GM role if he went into the NHL... maybe they have a succession plan developed that includes something along these lines? Can you imagine the whining around the HF community? Anyway, its not a crazy idea. We all know Lou is advancing in years, Sutter wants to be a GM at some point (see his older bro) and Burnsy might be looking to get back into coaching. Finally we all know he loves the Devils organisation. Very interesting times ahead for this franchise. Richer's Ghost 05-12-2008, 10:28 AM Can you imagine the whining around the HF community? Finally we all know he loves the Devils organisation. Very interesting times ahead for this franchise. Not to mention that having a GM that is familiar with the current players and being behind the bench, along with Burns who is from the same mold as Sutter... I could see that being a positive thing. Maybe asst. GM this year with Lou then transitioning into full time GM status next year? Consult with Burnsy during the season as an informal asst. coach with the plan to return full time? Just like the roster, several possibilities, namely positive ones. britdevil 05-12-2008, 11:08 AM Not to mention that having a GM that is familiar with the current players and being behind the bench, along with Burns who is from the same mold as Sutter... If this is the "plan", im a fan. fortheloveof666 05-12-2008, 11:19 AM I really like Brent as our coach despite his sometimes maddening tactics, but I'd welcome back Burns in a heart beat. Both coaches have a relatively similar approach, a strong attitude and presence on the bench and it does seem more and more possible that Sutter may very well be Lou's replacement. But thinking short-term, is Lou really ready to hang it up? devsfan8 05-12-2008, 09:46 PM I really like Brent as our coach despite his sometimes maddening tactics, but I'd welcome back Burns in a heart beat. Both coaches have a relatively similar approach, a strong attitude and presence on the bench and it does seem more and more possible that Sutter may very well be Lou's replacement. But thinking short-term, is Lou really ready to hang it up? I have a weird feeling Lou might resign (self proclaimed speculation). He is up there in years and even though he is still a great GM, he has lost his edge a little in compairson to Pre Lock Out Lou. I think he is set in his own philosophy and this team needs a change in direction. I can see a non rumor shocker on TSN.ca before the draft announcing Lou resigns, remains Team President. Sutter in as GM. Burns named Coach. I could be way off on this I admit. But I just have a weird feeling. One thing is for sure, Lou will always do what he feels is best for the organization. Omair Taher 05-12-2008, 10:20 PM Yes, the Denver Post knows exactly what's going on in the Devils organization. devsfan8 05-12-2008, 10:23 PM Yes, the Denver Post knows exactly what's going on in the Devils organization. I am not even sure the Devils players know what is going on in the organization. The Denver Post is just a Media Source like anyone else and creating gossip and speculation. I just have my own isolated feeling about Lou and his roll as GM. jkrdevil 05-12-2008, 11:42 PM I think all of you are reading to much into what the writer said. I think that was more of a shot at Lou's penchant for firing coaches. David Puddy 05-13-2008, 12:43 AM One thing is for sure, Lou will always do what he feels is best for the organization. Then he's not stepping down as GM this summer and naming Sutter as the new GM. britdevil 05-13-2008, 07:56 AM Then he's not stepping down as GM this summer and naming Sutter as the new GM. No way would it happen that quick. I think whats being debated is, will Sutter become GM after Lou? Having a previous Stanley Cup Winner, Jack Adams winner, and coach of the Devils waiting in the wings wont hurt the organisation either. Lou wont be GM forever. Richer's Ghost 05-13-2008, 08:17 AM I'd rather hear that Burns is returning to the bench and Sutter becoming asst. GM than hear Burns is leaving to coach another team and thus cutting ties to the Devils organization. Perfect scenario: Burns agrees to be asst. coach to Sutter for this coming year, Sutter gets his feet wet with GM roles in asst. GM position under Lou, and the following year Lou steps down to President/Asst. GM while Sutter is named GM and Burns transitions back into head coach role. Likelihood of this happening: 2.44% (margin of error +/- 2.43%) britdevil 05-13-2008, 08:21 AM + Peter DeBoer becomes Offense Coach. Johnny Mac becomes head coach of Lowell. ;) Richer's Ghost 05-13-2008, 08:44 AM + AC/DC Back in Black album released for Rockband. "The thing I learned from Lou is being loyal to a hockey club and the trust we have as an organization. I owe a lot to the Devils and to Lou Lamoreillo. When times were tough and I didn't know where to turn to, these guys looked out for me and I will always be there for them." Reason #45349548589 why I love this team and Lou. You guys get free health car, education through college, etc. We spend our professional lives paying off our student loans. And Universities are con-artists in disguise. Professors get paid off my textbook companies to require students to purchase books at ridiculously high prices, and then they don't even use them. And in my senior year, I have to take six free elective classes in order to graduate. So basically I'll be paying 10 g's a semester to take bull crap courses that will do nothing for my major. I'd gladly pay double for gas than do that ****. DevilsFan38 05-13-2008, 11:34 AM I love Burns, and if we had brought him back last summer instead of bringing in Sutter I would have been ecstatic. But I don't see Sutter going anywhere for awhile, and if Burns moves on to another head coaching job I will wish him nothing but the best.
