Anyways, this is what convinced me to get a ps3... I'm not that interested in the game itself, and I know this clip is just a cut scene, but it just shows you what that system can do.

I like my 360, but I have a kick ass computer with an 8800GTX so I can play BioShock or any other MS game on there if I want.

PS3 is nasty. The only thing holding it back at first was its library. Its set up for the future, to evolve years from now. I just bought a Wii... thought about 360 for Halo... but the ps3 made me think long and hard

I haven't finished it yet between ridiculous amount of work and mlb 08, but it is easily one of the best games out for the system thus far. I'm turning in the PS2 and Xbox to gamestop for credit...use that towards a PS3. I'll be stimulating the gaming economy with my economic stimulus check. :)

That game looks amazing, but the game play blows, IMO. But aesthetically it's definitely up there in quality. People still loved it anyway, personally, I'm not big on games like that to begin with.

A friend of mine who has become a total 360 fanboy messaged me a few weeks back after playing the show at his dads on PS3 and said the same thing except the best baseball game ever made. Now he wants to buy PS3. haha.

Also they're expecting multi-layer BD discs to possibly reach 250 GB capacity. So...the evolution could really really prove fruitful.

It most definitely is! Hours go by and you dont' even realize it. I am play the road to the show mode which lets you make a custom character and train them in the minors to get them to the majors. Its amazing, and like I said, the time just flys!

Oh yeah - forgot about MLB the Show... that game is the bomb. Most sports games are available in both consoles, but that one is a PS3 exclusive.

If you get an extra controller - get the new rumble one. That just recently was released after all sorta of legal fiasco over the roylaties and rights to the rumble technology.

And the PS3 upscaling of regular DVD's is incredible. The DVD output of the 360 was less than stellar in my opinion, but if you don't have HD, then I wouldn't factor that in - other than resale value will naturally be higher for a PS3 thanks to the blu-ray.

all this hype is really making me want to get it. I'm not big on baseball, but it just sounds like it's worth it regardless.

MLB 08 is the greatest baseball game ever. It honestly takes an hour to play a 9 inning game.

Make sure you have a way to connect it to your tv - if you're not HD, the PS3 comes standard with HDMI connection. Check into component connection cables for your tv.

Yea, they released the dual shock 3 controller recently. I wasn't used to playing without the vibration since I had grown accustomed to if after years of ps2, not to mention an embarassing amount of hours playing socom 2 with friends.

I am a big 360 fan due to it's library and the fact that xbox live is pretty well done as far as updates and continuous additions. I do think that the ps3 could take the lead in the future however they do not have enough game to really make me need to get it. The distance between games that are ps3 limited are released to far apart and make it less of a need or want.

360 sucks ass, everything that comes out in a joint release for 360 and ps3 has been 20x better on the PS3, plus come one tomorrow

GTA 4 :handclap: comes out the only game since the original soul calibar to get a 10 out of 10 on IGN

not to mentions team fortress, drakes, rachet and clank, all sports games are better and what not

Trying to take an unbiased approach. Right now MS is looking at a disc capacity issue. They're using dual layer DVD's which really isn't a far cry from where they were. There is a pretty good chance MS might have to roll out an entirely new system to keep up with gaming the way it is exponentially growing.

I can't speak for the physical longevity of the PS3 hardware, but what can be said is...when it did come out it was still way too early for it. But now that over a year has past, people have had time to catch up...things are coming around. And since MS invested in the HD-DVD (which will soon go defunct) now they can either compromise somehow for a Blu-Ray license from their direct competitor, or try and build their own technology.

If they end up having to do the latter, which it seems, then basically you're going to have to upgrade the system one way or another. Or they're going to have to eat another bullet (like the 1 billion dollar bullet to fix the RROD/extend warranties) and just give them out. I mean, even if I wanted to go with both systems instead of just one, why would I invest over 400 dollars in a system that is likely going to be outdated in a years time? They can either find a way around it (like using the HDD to try and suck up some of the disc space they don't have) or they can figure out a far better way to compress everything onto their relatively small discs.

HD-DVD is already done. Toshiba jumped off about a month ago...and they're the ones who were behind it the whole time. Retailers were basically giving away HD-DVD players over the past few weeks.

Well I started with PS2 and refused to get an xbox until Fable came out. Then I got the xbox. (and of course you can get Fable for the computer now)

well the companies still in contract with them are still making movies for it for the duration. so it's not fully defunct yet. But I believe by October the titles will all be coming to a dramatic halt...and it's beautiful thing. BD is so much better anyway, I love it. And now with BD Live being added on PS3...I can't wait to see what kind of stuff pops up for that.

Assuming you're not being sarcastic (I never know with you Brits ;) ) I wouldn't rush to do that. The PS3 is better on a technical side, not so much overall. Plus you'd be getting more content with the 360 version due to their 50 million dollar DLC investment.

But if I owned a 360, I'd be watching very closely as to what MS is going to do with disc space since they were clearly half banking on HD-DVD to take the market over and it failed miserably. It won't be an issue likely until some time next year, by my own uneducated estimation. But it's going to definitely be an issue when you want your games to compete but don't have the space to do it, and everyone knows it.

I'm not sure what capacity MS has at its disposal now..but I'll just say from my experience most games are only about 8GB compressed. BD is looking at possibly (and I stress possibly) 30 times that amount in the future.

Well look at it this way....look at hard drives over the past 6 years. In 2002 a 60GB HD was pretty big, 80 was like, WOW. But now you can buy 1TB, 500GB, almost as standards.

So I think in a regard like that...as capability expands, so will quality and size. While most games (non-sports) average about 40 hours to complete, we might see 80 hour games that are vastly more complex and thorough. All those things in games you thought they could have had, they will have and then some.

It definitely opens up more for devs to explore as far as what games consider, and with GTA showing the gaming world it can create such an expansive world that feels true to life (just exaggerated) then it's going to be incredible.

I'd imagine a large amount of space would be devoted to cut-scenes. I don't know if it was your thing or but God Of War 2 is a perfect example. The game is mind-blowing visually...storyline and game play is sick, but only about 1 out of 5 cut scenes is top-notch quality. Granted that was PS2 and different media...but it just gives them the ability to put far more quality and realism into things without having to worry about being confined to certain amounts of space.

I love my 360 and Wii, I have yet to invest in a PS3 but I will eventually.

I have heard of several people so far who purchased a ps3 just for GTA 4, and I think it will definitely be worth it. Every rating it has gotten has been ridiculous so far. I've also read on several websites that it is better for the ps3 than 360.

Anyone frequent GameFAQs? Its been my homepage since 2001 when I registered right after Vice City came out. If not, definitely check it out for their reviews and walkthroughs. The message boards are always fun to look at from time to time as well.

I have a pretty big game collection gathered through the years, I never trade stuff in. There are games I own that I want my kids to be able to play some days.

Ninja Gaiden for XBox was incredible, the hardest mode was unforgiving but amazing at the same time. Cant wait for NG II.
In fact the original Ninja Gaiden games for NES rule as well.

theres no way something like that is coming in under the radar, especially with the success of part 4. heck i dont even know how many times ive beaten 4 and i STILL play it because its so much fun. easily one of the most amazing games. then again, within the past 10 years...that list is always getting rewritten. were spoiled by all this console competition. i love it:yo:

On the rpg topic, old school turn based it awesome! Lunar is a great game if anyone wants a good recommendation, it is a ps game.

Even with all the problems 360 is a better choice, more games, better online. More AAA titles, and GTA 4 might not look as good as Ps3 it will have more stuff, like downloadable Cities, thats exclusive to Microsoft machine.

Count me in as a PS3 fanboy. Call Of Duty 4 and NHL 08 were pretty much the reasons why i got my PS3 back in November. And, i'm pretty excited for tomorrow as i'll have the chance after my hockey game to play some Grand Theft Auto IV!:scared:

i have the Wii and just bought Mario Kart...pretty nice. its a lot of fun and i cant wait until the online games get going.

im still on the fence about putting down all that $ on PS3 and GTA-IV. i know the moment i get that i'll want Rock Band and Guitar Hero....i just dont have the cash to do it.

Well while I'm no expert on aliasing and **** like that as these reviewers are...I can tell you all flat out that, at the very least, GTA IV on 360 is not a 10/10 in my book.

Thus far between myself and a friend we've completed around 9 missions and while the game is great in most regards there are still things that happen that you think would have been fixed since GTA III and the hand to hand combat is relatively awful, IMO.

One second I'm kicking the snot out of some loan sharks, the next, I'm getting my face beat in by a woman on the street that I snuck from behind.

I think a 10/10 is a flawless game, and not even 2 hours into game play we've experienced quite a few flaws in it. I doubt the PS3 version is much different, either. But that I'll have to find out either at midnight or tomorrow when I can pick up my pre-order.

The game is worth the money, no question about it, but I don't want anyone going and spending 5-600 bucks on a console and the game expecting perfection.

I think the game is still a console seller. Hype alone will sell the consoles.

yeah I mean visually...the game is a 20 out of a 10 that's how good it is and pretty much flawless. I mean you start off outside of the main city and as you drive around the cityscape is in the distance and being someone that lives across from NYC, I can tell you they captured it spot-on.

But the fighting engine blows...instead of using a similar engine they did with The Warriors it's less free-for-all and more about timing and tapping and if you don't get it right you get your ass beat.

Like we screwed up the latter part of the loan shark mission where there was a chase because the car kept flipping, so we had to go back and fight the two guys again. First time, I whooped both their ***** in 2 seconds flat and we were off, second time (taking the same approach) they beat me nearly to death.

Like you'll hit the button to kick or throw a haymaker or something and nothing happens, the other person just keeps repeatedly smashing you.

Another thing that irritated me was, at one point I drove a car in the water, got out and swam to shore. The at another point, I was ****ing around and jumped over a small ledge into the water and died as soon as I hit it. What is that about?

Something else that stuck out to me also was the complete annoyance of getting your car stuck somewhere and not being able to get out of it. Like I slid around a corner but because the handling is so difficult on almost every car (except police cruisers) it's very hard to corner at high speeds. I was testing the e-brake method and spun out of control into a building, but when i hit the building, instead of bouncing off...the car was just lodged between two staircases and I had to continue to go forward and backward for about 3 full minutes to get out.

Plus it pisses you off even more because you have to use that car for the mission and getting out just means you fail.

Another thing that was a bit irritating was in order to walk through a door, you just walk straight into it and it opens (instead of using Triangle or Y to open it) and so when you walk to a door that isn't capable of opening, sometimes half of Niko will disappear into it.

I thought those rendering issues should have been solved on "last gen" but I guess not. They're not big quarrels obviously, but arguments against a 10/10 game.

personally I haven't seen a PS3 version on the internet, but at the same time..I don't think people shelled out the insane amount of cash for a BD burner.

360 games are easily burned on a standard DVD burner, so long as it has Dual Layer capability.

I got stuck at one part of xenogears and could not for the life of me get any real help to past that part. I also bought xenosaga and played it for about 20 minutes and never went back.

Xenogears is legendary, unfortunately the Xenosaga games cannot hold a candle to Xenogears, and it really doesnt have much to do with Gears anyway.
As a owner of the Sega CD add-on, I grew up with Lunar. The Silver Star and Eternal Blue on Sega CD are awesome, two of my first RPGs, and I love the remakes of both titles available on PS/Saturn. An excellent series, hopefully it gets another legit sequel one day.

Did someone mention Xenogears? I actually played through all 80 hours to do just about everything in it. In retrospect, I wish I didn't - wow does that game make little sense.

I'm just happy that GTA IV is coming out; Burnout Paradise will get the first of a few sweet patches; Smash Bros. Brawl is the hotness; and I'm getting back into WWSM.

i have the Wii and just bought Mario Kart...pretty nice. its a lot of fun and i cant wait until the online games get going.

im still on the fence about putting down all that $ on PS3 and GTA-IV. i know the moment i get that i'll want Rock Band and Guitar Hero....i just dont have the cash to do it.

Definately loving Mario Kart Wii in our house. We won't be getting GTAIV though.

Having both guitar hero II and III before getting Rockband... I wish I'd never have bothered with Guitar Hero III now... I only play rockband now. It's so much better imo... drums are the bomb, and getting 3 people together to actually play as a band and tour - that is just so much fun.

can't wait for online band tour mode coming this summer/fall. (my friends aren't that good at it so I want band mates who can hang on expert).

Xenogears is legendary, unfortunately the Xenosaga games cannot hold a candle to Xenogears, and it really doesnt have much to do with Gears anyway.
As a owner of the Sega CD add-on, I grew up with Lunar. The Silver Star and Eternal Blue on Sega CD are awesome, two of my first RPGs, and I love the remakes of both titles available on PS/Saturn. An excellent series, hopefully it gets another legit sequel one day.

My buddy got Silver Star Story when he broke his arm back in the 6th grade. It was such a fun game that I got the Eternal Blue since it was just released and the first one was no longer in production. Loved the game, and about a year or so later, they re-released Silver Star Story, so of course I got it and loved every minute of it. To this day, I still joke with my buddy about Nash and how he was a traitor. Kind of funny, some things don't change after years go by.

My Nan works at our local ASDA (Walmart) and she put me a copy by yesterday evening. They opened the shop at midnight and sold their stock. Am I glad she did that!!!

yeah, I dunno if it was a reserve or pre-order. I wasn't actually there. I had my gf do it for me while she was out because I was too busy getting loaded. But I traded in 4 old games, which fulfilled my payment for that plus I have like 22 dollars left over.

Sadly the only freezing problem I have ever had with my 360 is with the online play in NHL 08 :( Its ****ed up some great online matches I have had, really frustrating.

The game is fantastic. The game has a cartoon-y and funny feel to it, and the characters all have their own unique personality.

I was playing a ton of free mode, im cruising with this guy in a car. All of a sudden another two cars come from nowhere, filled with guys, crash into us and I go flying through the windshield. I turn back to see my buddy being straight up murdered. Gun to face style. I notice an RPG on the sidewalk, I grab that mother ****er and pop these clowns with one of the most beautiful looking car explosions ive seen in a video game. Then I hopped onto a bike and chase down the other car, shooting out the tyres and popping guys through the rear windscreen. Pull up along side the car, and the last remaining dude shoots my face off. All this just for the heck out of it.

I have a 60GB Launch console and have already put in about 6 hours on the game and have had 0 problems.

I haven't used the multiplayer mode yet, so I dunno if it stems from there.

But if you're having that problem, reportedly Rockstar is suggesting you delete the original install (as well as save game data) and re-install the game on the HDD. Seemingly this has worked for some people.

yeah it's definitely incredible. I got pretty far. Far enough to where I'm already beyond where my friend and I got playing it last week in 3 days, and I've had the game for PS3 for not even 24 hours. :laugh:

It's so hard to put down...especially with the cell phone going off every time you want to. haha

She kept bumping into me while we were walking (and at one point fell down the stairs at the bowling alley) so I shot her with the 12 gauge and all **** did was get pissed off and take a cab home and wouldn't hang out with me until I called for like the 4th time.

You can also kill more people taking their money from the ATM to increase the amount of money that respawns.

I played TF2 a couple of times - it was a great game but I just don't have that much time to play and I bought it with orange box so between Half life 2 and Portal I never really got around to it to much. If you are looking for people to play with, on Steam there is a group called PC Gamer, twice a week they have large gatherings of to play TF2 online - you will get a message from their group every time an online game is coming up. Only did it a couple of times but a good group in there when I did.

Anyone try to drink and drive in the game yet? I never get motion sickness and I seriously felt like I was going to body all over the place. I had to close my eyes until it was over. haha. Little too much emphasis on the dizzy/disorient of being wasted.

ya and it's the greatest thing to do in the game. Trying to make Niko walk is hilarious since he'll just randomly collapse for no reason.

I managed to get back onto a bike after being drunk, Niko was still buzzed and it attracted police when I crashed full speed into a tree, injuring Roman.

I wish I were able to try it more, but it seriously makes ME sick to my stomach. The camera shakes too much and ****. So after that whole debacle I either hail a cab or have Roman send me one (assuming I'm not with him).

My buddy got Silver Star Story when he broke his arm back in the 6th grade. It was such a fun game that I got the Eternal Blue since it was just released and the first one was no longer in production. Loved the game, and about a year or so later, they re-released Silver Star Story, so of course I got it and loved every minute of it. To this day, I still joke with my buddy about Nash and how he was a traitor. Kind of funny, some things don't change after years go by.
Haha Nash = Gomez. Lunar SSSC is awesome, the Playstation Remakes and the SEGA CD verisons have permanant spots on my shelf forever. I remember going nuts as a kid because Working Designs kept delaying the release of the PS version, you cant blame them for being perfectionists though. I am going to play through it again for the millionth time after I am done with GTA4.

I just unlocked Manhattan today, you get it during the mission for Elizabeta where you're teamed up with Playboy X.
Times Square is amazing.

The city is amazing (Manhattan), like Dave says, Times Square in particular just looks spectacular. This game really is very very good.

I was in Alderney during online play. I was only in one part...but not much about it gave me a feel that it was Jersey. Then again that might be by design being I've yet to get there.

Haha nice, online is having troubles on the 360. Alot of people are getting thrown out, some people recommended forwarding some ports on your router, so did that. Have only got into one deathmatch so far. Needless to say I won.

The key to this game is that its pure mayhem, at least in Deathmatch. I can imagine some of the other objective type games are alot less manic.

I think my favourite kill that I made has to be when I rolled out of the way of an oncoming car, pulled his ass out of the car and shot him in the face. Brutal.

My fav deathmatch kill? A guy on the blue team flying towards me at top speed, all I have is a sniper rifle. I desperately shoot at him to save my life. Inches away from colliding, I luckily got a shot into his head and his car flipped to my side.:)

I just killed a cab driver in the coolest way......I was barreling towards Manhattan and the rammed into the back of him, his neck must have snapped or something because all I heard was the horn and saw him slumped over his steering wheel, dead.

i like when you throw a grenade in a crowd of people and the bodies fly 20 feet in the air and thump to the ground. its just funny to see there limp bodies in the are and the thump sound is funny

Yeah, I know. I'm so stoked for Star Wars the Force Unleashed. It's got Euphoria, Havoc, and DMM, these three engines combined is going to make for one killer game. Using the force to throw bodies, and impale people with lightsabres, it's just going to be sweet. After seeing Euphoria in motion with GTA IV, can't wait to see what TFU has to offer.

Agreed, it's just fantastic the way technology has come a long. I do miss Carl Johnson though, that guy was a bad ass. Niko is cool too, and his morals are great, even though he's a petty hood.

Needless to say, I was verry pleased he had my back in the warehouse mission, couldn't have asked for better.

Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again...Brucie is the best character in the game. That guy is such a ****ing idiot, but I know at least 4 people that are exactly like him. Every time he's in the car or you talk to him, I can't help but laugh hysterically.

haha, I'd love to know what PS3 has output like that, mine certainly doesn't in 1080i. I'm not saying 360's graphics aren't better, but those are unbelievably worse than what I'm seeing right now as I sit here.

I was just on Deathmatch and all I had were grenades, and I was running towards a guy while he was shooting me. With my last bar of health I dropped a grenade at my feet and when he came over to collect my money, he blew up:)
