Uggghhh....I forgot about that. I was watching the 1980 All-Star game on ESPN Classic, which was cool, so I can't be too pissed but still i could have gone back and fourth.

Martin Brodeur made a great save on Shane Doan and also was solid against Rick Nash a couple of times.

Anybody know why Niedermayer was wearing an "A"? Mistake?, recognition and respect for Stevens?, Madden taking over?, Stevens returning? :dunno:

Anybody know why Niedermayer was wearing an "A"? Mistake?, recognition and respect for Stevens?, Madden taking over?, Stevens returning? :dunno: I wondered the exact same thing when I was watching the introductions, but then I realized that all the players were wearing the jerseys they normally wear for their teams (without injuries changing their status temporarily) for the All Star Skills Competition. Thornton was wearing the "C", Alfredsson had on the "C", Primeau was wearing the "C", Sundin had on the "C", Messier had on the "C" while Roberts and Aucoin both had on "A's".

I expect we'll see just the one "C" on Niedermayer's jersey in tomorrows All Star Game.

Yes, well all the players will have the same uniform tomorrow, with just a team emblem patch.

I could see the Wild players being introduced last as the game is in Minnesota, but Messier being introduced last for the East was well, I mean he wasn't even voted in as a starter, and both Holik and Lindros(before injury) have more points at center for NYR. I guess this may be his last one, and age before beauty doesn't apply here.

Nice to see Paul Martin get an assist. Too bad he had a few turnovers though.

Niedermayer is only acting Devils captain, not the official team captain.

I understand that, but his Devils sweater has had the "C" for the last 14 games, does that mean it was removed and the "A" was intentionally sewn back on just for the skills competition?

Awesome pics btw. :handclap:

Nieds reminds me of Michael Timmins of Cowboy Junkies with that hair.

Holy crap, that may be the first time this year I have seen Nieds smile. Nieds will IMO challege Stevens for best Devils defenceman by the time his career is up. Did I mention that he is my favorite Devil player ever?

He's trying to look like Paul Coffey. He sure skates like him.

Thankfully for the Devils, he plays much better defense.

A few of us were watching in the lounge in my residence and nobody could believe that Nieds won it. Everybody knew he was fast but it looked as though he was barely moving his legs. I've never seen a smoother stride in my life. The only guy in the NHL that can skate nearly as smoothly as Nieds is Jay Bouwmeester.

Sick save by Marty on Doan. It must have been a fluke though. The Devils defense wasn't in front of him.

I agree with that sentiment. When he was making his turn around the net, I was thinking he was off the mark by a lot (they don't the splits like in downhill skiing.)
I was feeling bad for him because I thought he was going to have a sub par showing. When he was getting near the end, I realized how quickly he was moving. It was a great performance, so smooth and deceptively fast.

Does anyone have a link of Brodeur's save vs. Doan? Now...THAT was something! :yo:

I was disappointed we didn't see a poke check this time around. I guess he's saving something for the many breakaways he expects to face in todays actual game. :p

Rafalski with Roberts.

Brodeur only gave up one goal in the 1st period in todays NHL All Star Game. Niedermayer picked up an assist on Mark Messier's goal with a nifty backhanded pass. Rafalski I didn't really notice as much save for the one goal which was scored against the East after it hit his skate.

Actually Ralfalski seemed to be playing like a forward he was so deep so often, more than what i was used to seeing. Taped the 1970 All-Star game from ESPN Classic last night, started to watch it today, finally had to turn the thing off after a half a period, it was a waste of my time. The thing was in black and white, grainy picture couldn't ever make out the puck couldn't barely make out the players numbers forgot about their faces, the camera seemed like it was way on top of the arena the worst thing I ever saw on TV, I swear if you were to see it you'd would have thought it was a production of a hockey game from the early fifties not 1970. What a shame.
