but lets be real here...the guy runs his mouth all night long on the ice and purposely sits on the end of the bench closest to the other team just so he can do so. If you're gonna be a guy that talks ****, be a man when someone does it to you.
I don't recall the description of the person who said it to him but 10 times out of 10 I'm taking a teenager over Avery decisively. :biglaugh:
Devilswede 04-07-2008, 08:45 AM Clarkson got to Avery pretty badly so Avery went out and took his frustration out on a Devils fan after the game. ;)

It's a rivalry and stuff like that is bound to happen.. That's what happens when two teams with a passion for their team, and a hate for the other, clash.. There's been much bigger incidents in college rivalries and soccer matches

Back in the day, and I'm talking early/mid 80s Devils games, a good chunk of the Upper Bowl would yell "TASTES GREAT" and another chunk across the way would all yell "LESS FILLING"..... They're the worst. They're so delusional and full of themselves its disgusting. They have this elitist attitude that causes them to think that they can say whatever they want about anyone they want WHEREVER they want. Half of the things they say on that board are so far from the truth that even if you climbed to the top of Lundqvist's pads you wouldn't be able to reach it.
Brooklyndevil 04-07-2008, 05:57 PM I don't believe in talking about anyones father, mother or bring up a sickness, etc. However, it just seems whenever Lunqvist doesn't play well there's a ready made excuse for the guy and it's just not the fans. I really hope the league is serious about significantly decreasing the maximum equipment size for next year like they said. You have to figure a guy like Lundy, Giggy, Luongo (aka the Massive equipment poster boys) GAA will increase a good 0.25 on that alone.

The worst IMHO are the Ranger commentators. I dont know if anyone happened to be watching the Rangers feed yesterday, but when Parise missed the open net and shot it wide Rosen went Apeshat....... A MIRACULOUS SAVE BY LUNDQVIST or something like that. HE GOT A PIECE OF THAT WITH HIS WRIST!!!!! etc.... They then proceded to show the replay about 4 times, including the overhead, all of which clearly showed Parise just flat out choked and missed an open net. The STILL maintained it was a great save by Lundy, because hey..... those 2 never let the truth get in the way of a good story. So annoying. :shakehead

I dunno if that's a good example considering the distances of each photo, but the butterfly things at the top are certainly ridiculous.
But without them how else could a butterfly goalie go down at the top of the crease and cover the ENTIRE bottom of the net, including the 5 hole? :sarcasm:
It's the Devils that brought down scoring and ruined hockey though...not goaltenders with over-sized pads/equipment.

i know the difference of distance is there, but i eyed them with respect to the hips. lundy's pads go higher, by several inches.

BigE7 04-08-2008, 10:23 AM Their approved by the league so I guess they can't be all that bad.
Which is why there needs to be changes. There shouldnt be any padding that doesn't protect goalies from injury. Leg pads that cover 5-6 inches above the knee, to the area already protected by the padding in goalie pants, isn't there for any other reason than closing the 5 hole.

no that is checking from behind, and hitting with elbows up. but he has asthma, so its ok.
avery will make contact with brodeur whenever he can (two games ago how he lost balanced, and then jumped on marty's back, yes he jumped, myself having fallen down many times on skates i can tell he lunged in that direction) and take little pot shots (clarksons face and his stick) and then cry whenever he is hit hard.
Reverend_Hellh0und 04-08-2008, 04:54 PM "There are some guys I like as people and don't bother with, and there are a lot I don't. Marty? I don't think it's a secret that I'm not a very big fan of his.
"It's just one of those relationships that's not very pleasant. It's kind of like a bad first date. It started from the first game, and has gone from there."
For that, they will need Avery at his best. They will need his jam, they will need his mouth, and they will need him to get into the crease and under the skin of Brodeur, of whom Avery had this to say:
"We don't travel in the same circles. I don't think he could get into the places I like to go to."
http://www.nypost.com/seven/04082008/sports/rangers/one_man_force_105494.htm
Yeah Avery Marty does not travel in circles with the likes of prostitutes.....
None Shall Pass 04-08-2008, 04:58 PM If you have money you can get anywhere, and Marty makes at least double what Avery does, sooooo......
i think this all started at one of matry's celebrity outings where elisha cuthbert was invited and avery went as a guest, and i think he got snubbed by marty, or marty didnt know he was there. i remember marty last season saying he didnt invite him and didnt know he was there. so that may be the spark of it.
that being said who cares about avery, its just a shame that noone puts him in his place. avery comment about marty not getting into the places he goes, he is a older father of three, i would guess he wouldnt want to go to the clubs avery goes. but hey avery is teh coolness!!! just really a dumb person.

fortheloveof666 04-08-2008, 05:15 PM not for nothing but...in sports, usually the guy that runs his mouth ends up not backing it up. Well, unless you're Mark Messier where everyone forgets about your failed predictions and just rambles on about the one you did get right.
The NY Post is perfect for Avery though, a hack publication that might as well be considered a hollywood tabloid. Right up his alley...
I think he's mad because Marty :Ryan Hullweg'd: his girl Elisha.
devildan 04-08-2008, 05:16 PM So you'd prefer Avery? I am talking comparison since Avery wanted to compare himself to Marty.
Listen, all I'm saying is that Marty isn’t the paradigm of high morality. And that people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. This is just classic NY Post Puffery.
haakon84 04-08-2008, 05:16 PM I just love how he likes to bring up "what circles he travels in" as a measure of awesomeness. Not his actual play on the ice, because then he'd have nothing to say.

what the Post fails to report is...they're Jerks, not circles of travel. haha.
Heat McManus 04-08-2008, 05:18 PM Avery is like the goo from Ghostbusters II, he feeds on negative energy. Want proof? Look at the Atlanta series. The more attention you pay to Avery, the more he has you in his pocket.
So, let's ignore him. Don't play into his game. If you're sitting near the glass, don't try and talk to him during warm-ups. If you see him in Starbucks, ask him for a straw and walk away. No signs, nothing.
Anybody else agree?
jBuds 04-08-2008, 05:18 PM The best thing to do with Avery is ignore his antics. It worked for Buffalo last season in the playoffs - he was a nonentity after saying something absurd before the series started.
That said, if there's any response to this stuff, he's doing his job, and doing it right, at that.
TylerDurden 04-08-2008, 05:19 PM love it, it always makes for a better rivalry when players hate each other.

absolutely. but considering his previous antics, he was pretty candid about what he was saying this time around and whatever bordered on what he'd normally say was really just his own arrogance.
I got a feeling he at least learned his lesson last year.
Reverend_Hellh0und 04-08-2008, 05:21 PM Sure right after we get a few good "Kristin Davis" chants going,.
devildan 04-08-2008, 05:22 PM The worst IMHO are the Ranger commentators. :shakehead
Ah yes. Because Chico never verbally felates Brodeur. Give me a break.
'Ohhhhh Doc'o Brodeur had no chance there. It must have been tipped or shot through a screen!'
I've noticed an increasing amount of blind Devils homers show up on this board over the past few years. I hate how level-headed fans are lumped in with this garbage.

well as a Rangers fan lets hope its a good clean hard fought series that goes 7 games. Rangers must do the same about Clarkson and Asham.

I agree...I mean it's just how it goes. The more attention you give to someone they more they feed off it.
However if he's going to be in the business for running goalies...I wholeheartedly endorse sending Lundqvist through the boards.
MoonDragn 04-08-2008, 05:23 PM Well, when Avery is on the ice he's almost invisible anyway. Hardly ever notice him.

Mr Bojanglez 04-08-2008, 05:34 PM I think our hatred is more directed towards Gomer... he'll get much more attention then Avery and his orange-alien-like skin. Its cool though, if I ever get lost going to the garden I can use his skin tone as a homing beacon
ILikeItVeryMuch 04-08-2008, 05:37 PM "We don't travel in the same circles. I don't think he could get into the places I like to go to."

Too bad Clarkson noticed him a few games ago.

I wonder if anybody notices anything these days.

haha. I honestly don't know much about her as far as her personality, I just know she's smoking hot.
It would be pretty funny if it was over her though. I mean it would be sort of a fitting drama for Avery being he's tried to become some sort of pseudo-celeb thanks to Elisha.
Maybe she was Marty's babysitter...seems he likes his locale when it comes to that sort of thing. :biglaugh:
RMBoner Stabone 04-08-2008, 06:00 PM Elisha Cuthbert has a thing for hockey player's. She now dates Mike Komisarek and who knows if Marty didn't get a piece of that action.

well if Doc was a ****** announcer I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have won Emmy's and be on NBC/VS broadcasts.
So yeah, their opinion is invalid, and I hated Sam Rosen even calling Giant games (which btw, he slipped up and called the Giants the Rangers on more than one occasion)

Doc is great and while Chico is pretty terrible at actual commentary, he's a laugh riot. I LOVE our commentators for the most part. Just don't deny that Chico is also a blind Brodeur homer. A goalie homer, yes, but a Brodeur homer first and foremost. Oh, and lets just be clear on one thing: I don’t like the JD-less Rangers commentators. Mr Bojanglez 04-09-2008, 09:41 AM We really shouldn't let him get to us... or I hope the Devils don't let him get to them. He's going to take runs at Marty, they need to figure out ways to retaliate without taking penalties. Thats what the Rangers want... powerplay time.
Avery is actually kind of funny, he seems pretty with it. Granted I don't know about this finger nail polish (where did that come from?) And he's trying a little too hard to be cool in New York (him and Gomez can be "players"
But I saw him on some Rangers telecasts while he was hurt. He went up into the stands and signed autographs during intermission, went out and bought a hotdog after doing session on the stationary bike. Granted, this is also for attention... but as a Ranger fan I would find those both cool/ funny.

He didn't like them the other day! To the point that he was shooting pucks at the one kids sign and then threw Gatorade on a kid after the game outside of the arena!

Mutus Liber 04-09-2008, 04:32 PM He didn't like them the other day! To the point that he was shooting pucks at the one kids sign and then threw Gatorade on a kid after the game outside of the arena!
So, obviously he's getting worked up about it! If it's just the fans that's fine, if it's the players, then it becomes a problem!
Yes and no, he always does things like that outside the arena, thats his personality, like it or not. And as far as shooting pucks at signs, meh, there are a ton of pictures of him taunting fans before the game, or just chatting it up, the Flyers one comes to mind. Maybe your right, but I dont see him really letting it affect his game.

I like that mentality, that is actually a good way to show your team your support. That I can def understand.
The Thomas J. 04-09-2008, 05:38 PM Do you guys realize that having the focus on HIM from the fans and players is playing into his hands? Thats what he wants. Look at last years series against the Thrashers, he had even Kovalchuk completely off his game. The best way to neutralize Avery is to ignore him. Oh and the signs, while funny to me, I cant see him getting to worked up over it, he likes that kinda stuff.
The only prolbem with that is the Devils don't have a player like that in Kovalchuk, the whole team combined doesn't have a 1/3 of Kovalchuks offensive talent.

Yeah so let's talk about the offensive powerhouse that is the New York Rangers. I mean you guys put up a ton of goals this year.

And Kovalchuk was just stellar for the Thrashers against the Rangers last year. In the playoffs I'd rather have the team the Devils have, committed to a system than Kovalchuk.

Ha, if we could only use photoshops onto poster boards.. You could get Avery in the middle of that Guido scene
Whatever it took, I would so fund this project
cj225 04-10-2008, 12:21 AM I had a blast with my sign tonight! And the Rangers players got a kick out of it.
Then Avery called me fat and I laughed hysterically. Worst thing you can do when heckling is call someone fat because you can't come up with anything else good!!
Avery....thanks for making my night!
D713B 04-10-2008, 04:23 AM I'm really surprised that Avery is so hated by you Devs fans that he warrants his own thread and a rather active one at that.
Darius Dangleaitis 04-10-2008, 06:02 AM Avery's an idiot. Everyone knew it before this thread and everyone will know it afterwards. Like the Rags fans in here have said, he's doing his job by pissing us off.

They actually escorted him out of the building with 2 security guards last night and he wasn't allowed to stop and sign autographs!
MoonDragn 04-10-2008, 09:47 AM Was pretty funny last night when Avery got hit by that puck, he held one hand to his face and the other hand was pointing. It reminded me of the little kid on the playground crying to his mommy and pointing at who hit him.

yeah or have makeshift Sean Avery jersey's (like more than half of them you'll see at a game) and everyone put self-tanner on and just stand there and confuse him and every time he takes a shot or skates by, just scream in a frenzy like it was the best thing that ever happened in hockey.

That thread is unreal,I hope he suckers them into some huge ass contract for a big ass cap hit in the offseason.
That play tonight though, the equivalent of an annoying little brother, "Not touching you. Not touching you. Not touching you." I loved how the ref had no idea what to do but yell at him, fantastic. The guy is doing something that's questionably illegal and worthy of a ref's attention and what do you do ref? Eh, just tell him to stop doing that.
Maybe next time when someone roundhouse kicks a goalie in the face, the ref can just say, "Oh hey, don't do that"
Oh wait, nevermind.

Sarge18 04-14-2008, 06:13 AM Since the league likes to take the natural abilities and talents of goaltenders away, you know, to improve the game, :shakehead why don't they come up with some zany rule to take this bag of ******'s natural gift he developed from not getting enough love and attenion in his childhood (and probably some inappropriate touching). How about any play or behavior deemed "detrimental to spirit of the game" or some such jargon automatically gets you two plus a ten minute misconduct, and three offences gets you a suspension. I'd say golden boy would probably have earned himself two suspensions already this season.
That, or get rid of the instigator rule.

2. Slapshots come in at 90mph. Is it "genius" to turn your back to that play?
